Remember what Gant said about needing a weapon to Edgeworth near the end of AA? Looks like Phoenix is in the process of forging it. The Mason system is useful in clearing up stuff that happened in the past but it's also confusing and is far from perfect...like every single version of windows that ever came out. Once it gets fully operational they'll probably use it to get testimonies from witnesses and maybe evidence or something...I still don't know what the hell it is but I just hope Xana doesn't take over.

Xana is a virus/monster entity that lives in a supercomputer world called Lyoko. This is from the show called "Code Lyoko" (which I am a big fan of). And it would be bad if Xana took over the MASON system, as it would try to mess up the case history, and people would start to fight, etc. etc. until the world ended. But I would hope the whole outcome of a case wouldn't rely on the MASON system, anyway. Well, you never know in the AA world.

There is no evidence to support that the Mason system is anything but a one time deal to explain what happened to Phoenix seven years ago. There are a lot of threads debating the Mason system so I won't do so here, but there isn't anything to indicate that the Mason system itself is meant to decide anything in court by itself (if it was even presented to the jurors which I still hold that it wasn't. I think it was meant for the player's eyes alone so that we could find out about Phoenix's past and the significance of all the evidence he gives to Apollo later). Let's not condemn Phoenix unfairly please.

Another MASON System thread?!?

Man, the MASON System has turned out to be much more divisive than decisive...

Spoiler: 4-4
Plus, honestly, how is Phoenix supposed to manipulate the video? Do you honestly think he has even a fraction of the technical knowledge to "create" the system himself?

That's beside the point.

If it was honestly meant to deceive, then it was just a really bad attempt at deception. The system is clearly contradictory as well as abridged. No one is going to believe that Phoenix is capable of jumping back and forth in time and there is no attempt to even make the pieces fit together cleanly. Pick whatever theory you like, but it was certainly not set up to fool anyone or some attempt would have been made to make it more believable.

Hobonix a sophisticated video editor and computer interface programmer? :moe-laugh: No chance. Phoenix just does not have that sort of technical skill...I actually think that the "MASON System" isn't even REAL in the game's sense. They never refer to the system at all in-game...

It was poorly thought-out, yes, but they most certainly did not intend to portray Phoenix as the bad guy. It completely contradicts EVERYTHING they did to emphasize Phoenix's innocence in the Gramarye case and the respect that the law board has for him. Plus, Capcom vilifying the protagonist of the first three games? That would just be a bad move all-around.

AAUGH! Someone else knows what Code: Lyoko is! *squees* I applaud the XANA reference, as I am a huge Code: Lyoko fan.
(I smell a fanfic...)
Anyways, good idea. It seems like that could really be helpful in solving cases. I hadn't really thought of it like that, but more as a 1-time deal. But if it's like windows...

But Phoenix says at the end, "you're the only ONES who can"!
And you turn on the courtroom camera. And the jury scene at the end is on the same background.

Spoiler: 4-4
As I recall, there is a difference in background when he says that which is before the MASON system begins. There he probably is talking to the jury, but just after that the scene ends and a new beginning scene starts (those starting cut scenes which we usually only see when a case is beginning) which signals a shift in perspective. You go from Apollo's point of view to Phoenix's and you go from addressing the jury to addressing the player. At the end of Phoenix's part, there is another start scene as the perspective changes back to Apollo and, the final time Phoenix speaks, the background loses the computer feel it had and he is addressing the jury again. There is a very clear separation between the two parts to signal this difference in audience. It's a cheap plot trick certainly, but they needed to explain what happened to Phoenix and they choose that method.

People who try to over-think the MASON system lose sleep at night.

Don't lose sleep.

I think 1-5 was a larger prelude to the whole theme of AJ, which was false evidence seemingly being condoned by both the prosecution and defense, as well as the inherent breakdown of the legal system within the PW/AJ universe.

I thought the MASON system was simply a video Phoenix made to show the jurists all the evidence he collected throughout the seven years he was investigating. Didn't Phoenix leave for a while to make this "Jurist System" work? (Didn't Trucy and Apollo say that he left for quite a while in the beginning of Turnabout Succession?). Or maybe I'm misinterpreting things.
