Fear is different for each person. There, I said it.

Spoiler: For the sake of Metroid fans
Does anybody remember the final boss of Metroid Prime Hunters, Gorea? He isn't the scariest boss in the series, but that part where he impales the other hunters and starts to absorb their energies was pretty disturbing.

And while I am on the topic of Metroid bosses, does anybody remember the Chykka boss, from MP2? That whole game is scary, with the dark-world and all, but that boss in particular was creepy. You couldn't see it half the time, and then once you kill the larva...

Remember that multi-eyed boss from Super Metroid? You know, the one you have to knock back until it falls into the lava? I beat it, then I do to leave, and it suddenly jumps back up as a skeleton, and I'm just like "AHHHHH!!!! NOOOO!!! NOT AGAIN!!!!!" then it just falls down and crumbles.

You meant Crocomire, right?
Get this: the creators of Metroid: Zero Mission began programming Crocomire into the game. They didn't use him, though...
There are some youtube videos showing what happens when you hack that code active (however that works):

I just got a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.
Overall, the game is anything BUT scary, except...
During the intro cut-scene, when the ghost-ship arrives, is pretty creepy, and combined with the music turned way up, makes for a truly frightening way to start a Zelda game!

Just post the game(s) that have scared you, preferably with a story!

In all honesty, Ocarina of Time scared me when I was a kid. I was, however like most gamers these days, underaged playing it. It was some part underground when there were lots of Undeads and I couldn't kill them all and they... humped me to death. The thought of them grabbing me and raping my life out scared the heck out of me.

You know, thats kinda like me! Also, I think the word you're looking for is "ReDeads" But the thing about them that scared me the most was actually not the raping, it was that scream they do. :beef:

Silent Hill series takes the cake in being fucking scary. I mean, the lack of sound and as well as the sudden random spurts of static on the radio = absolute terror.

Fatal Frame is another terrifying game to play. I now hate having to take pictures of windows now...

I don't think anyone here has heard of the Clock Tower series? Fuck, that girl on that piano still haunts me bloody dreams these days...

Oh, Keese? Or... no, there are a lot of monsters in OoT. I don't remember what the little birds are called. Not the Cuccos - though if you get those to swarm you, it can be pretty scary if you didn't know.

I've grown to love the Zelda series, but (Story time!) not long after OoT(Ocarina) came out my brother was playing it on N64 while I watched and "advised". It was a used copy. There were two empty files, and one that seemed to have been hacked somehow.

So we played a certain ways into an empty, far enough that we got into Hyrule Castle Town, at least. And then we tried the Third File, which was seriously messed up(some items were present, others weren't, no medallions, Navi kept urging us to go visit the Deku Tree - yet this was Adult Link, who should've long passed that stage). Anyway, "Cool, Link is a grown-up! Let's go outside of the Temple of Time and talk to people!"

And, well... if you've played the game, you know what I'm talking about. The town is gray and dull, there is an evil castle hanging in the sky, the colorful bustling crowds are gone, and in their place are the Redeads.

Red-brown emaciated shambling corpses with faces like wooden masks. They scream when they see you - in this instance the scream doesn't paralyze you, but still, get close enough, or get surrounded, and one jumps on you and you have to buttonmash frantically to break free, which gives another the chance...

I didn't get the "rape" connotations until I was older, but it was bad enough imagining a zombie latched onto your back chewing on your shoulders. Nightmare Fuel, oh very yes.

Neither of us was more than ten... we stopped playing Zelda of any kind for about a year after that. There's a lot of Nightmare Fuel in that game, really. Even so, it was a great one. Truly fantastic.

*reminiscence*

Well, these are old games but :

- Lands of Lore (PC) : There is a part when you have to explore a tower full of ghosts. You can't always see them 'cause they hide in the walls and attack you with a kind of huge snake... I was terrified to even think they were around me.

- Phantasmagoria : An interactive movie I bought when I was 13. When I look back then, I suppose it was no more terrifying than a cheap horror movie but I was so very scared... Especially at the end when the heroin must flee the house and all the doors are locked.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors freaked the crap out of me way back when.

I also recall my friend's brother playing RE3 back in 2001 or so, the Nemesis kept popping up and scaring me shitless.

Not to mention the Redeads in OoT and the opening cutscene of Dead Rising.

Yeeeeah, zombies creep me out. :beef:

Metroid Prime seriously frightened me. Keep in mind I was VERY young at the time.
Also, Majora's Mask and the Ocarina of Time had stuff that was way too frightening for an E-Rated game. Even the Wind Waker is a little creepy.
F.E.A.R. has a frightening vibe throughout the whole game.
Doom 3 is creepy throughout most of the game, but certain scenes are very shocking.

Oddly enough, I can never remember having a true nightmare since I was 5. And I'm not that optimistic, so that is very strange.

I remembered going to my friend's house on a half day of school. We decided to play some of her brother's games. When we pulled out Silent Hill 2, we started freaking out once the fog rolled in. Then, when you're supposed to beat the first monster, we were chucking the remote around the room, screaming at each other to kill it. And it was just standing there flailing its arms about.

Redeads ALWAYS freak me out in the Zelda games.

Agree.

I stopped playing the game for that very reason.

And the ReDeads in Ocarina of Time.

And all the crap that jumps out at you in Resident Evil.

And pretty much anything in any Silent Hill game ever.

And the Perceive system in Apollo Justice. >:\

Can't remember which Resi it was, I tink it was Umbrella Chronicles.
There was one zombie left in the whole level, I was playing at midnight, all lights off. Worst mistake in my life.

I get throigh the last door, the boss is dead, i'm chilling out for a bit (among some dead bodies xD), because all i needed to get was one item to do the level. Suddenly the door was being hammered in. I jumped really high, and literally pissed myself with fear. (Didn't really, but almost did.)

American McGee's Alice.

You play in a twisted version of Wonderland that would make Lewis Carrol turn in his grave. Your first weapon is a knife, you see, and your first enemy is a card guard.

I cut the guard in half. The bottom half ran around for a few seconds, squirting blood, before toppling over next to the other half. I turned off the computer for a while after that.

Also, Majora's mask. I kinda let myself run out of time just to see what would happen.

At midnight. Not a good idea.

It does. It's an actual town in West Virginia. I live in West Virginia. How do you think I sleep at night?

Timesplitters 2. I was a little younger than I am now, and the first time I played the Notre Dame level it was nighttime and I just got scared :3 Running through the sewers with a shotgun, killing zombies that popped up around every corner, and then finally infiltrating Notre Dame de Paris, filled with undead priests and a creepy-as-hell guy named Jacque de la Morte was just scary for me to play at night at that age.

The idea of it still kind of creeps me out.

Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Dear god, the sewers are creepy as hell, mostly on account of that creepy little girl Shoggoth. That, and the auditory hallucinations when you start to go spectacularly insane. :wacky-edgy:

Thief 3. The Asylum level is creepy as hell; not only do you hear things everywhere, but there's NO ONE THERE until the second half, and they don't make any noise at all until you're right on top of them.

Silent Hill 4. The haunted appartment creeped the fuck out of me when I first saw it, since I was IN an aparatment when I saw it. The ghosts were amazingly done and the atmosphere was unnerving as anything.

The part of Fatal Frame I watched was freaky, too. I idea of ghosts freak me out.

Also, Eternal Darkness, although that was more cool than scary. Still, one more vote for the bathtub scene. :beef:

However, I love scary games, so I was enjoying it the whole way. :keiko:
