When the time came in 2-4 to make the decision about

Spoiler:
Matt Engarde...

(Before Franziska bursts in)

What did you pick?

My dad and I both picked guilty. Our reasoning was that he WAS guilty. We couldn't let a twisted sociopath go free after all he'd done! (The courtroom spectators really pushed the point home for me.) And, before the news reached De Killer, they might be able to save Maya in time.

Later on I picked Not Guilty to see what would happen, but later on I felt guilty for picking that. Cause he IS a murderer.

I think I picked Not Guilty. My reasoning was that even if Engarde was acquitted for this case, he'd get what was coming to him someday. Letting someone innocent like Maya die wasn't worth putting him away.

I knew the game couldn't possibly end then, though, so it wasn't a huge moral decision for me.

I chose "Guilty" the first time and "Not Guilty" the second time, just to see the differences. The same applies with at the end of the trial (after Franziska has presented the evidence).

I saved before that point, so I wasn't particularly worried because I could restart before that part if I messed up. I think I chose guilty though (I had trouble believing they'd actually kill Maya, so I figured this was some test to see how far we'd go for the truth).

I was stuck for a while, but finally, my emotions got the better of me, and I just wanted to save Maya... but then there was also the problem of Adrian getting a punishment that she certainly didn't deserve...
Spoiler: 3-2
until my friend told me she was still in T&T, anyway
I'm a very emotional and protective kind of person, y'know... actually, now that I think about that moment, I don't really remember which one I went with...

I chose Not Guilty the second time, I think just to see what would happen, and... well, what happened was just too funny to miss. XD

I went with guilty, and as soon as I picked it I thought I'd screwed myself (and consequently, Maya). I refused to give Matt a "not guilty" under any condition, a decision that was set in stone with Maya's note to Nick, but even so I prepping myself for the "bad ending" and everything, when all of the sudden Franziska burst through the door and saved Nick's arse....

And then I realized I (he) still had one more cross examination to do. :nick:

I picked "Not Guilty" both times, as others have said picking that option both times leads to some very humorus results.

The second time is particulary sweet just to see Phoenix tell Matt that he may be free but pretty soon he is going to get a visit from one very pissed off hitman. And then Matt decides to change his plea.

Which I think is the most satisfying of the two outcomes.

Guilty, cause I thought that DeKiller was gonna go out for his head and kill him if he wandered the streets. Me, being a fan of him... I just couldn't let him get killed! D8

So I thought I'd save him... Then Franny bursted in and I knew he HAD to go... I mean... He's a killer... but he still had to go where he had to go. Jail.

(Second time, I chose not guilty, just to see what happened and I lol'd very much at it and wished I chose that one first. xD;)

It seems that I interpreted Edgeworth's "Duty" speech differently. I picked "Not Guilty" both times. The first time, it was to save Maya. The second time, it was because I knew what was coming to him, one way or the other. However, there was another reason.

That said, the best option at the last choice point would have been a third. "Recuse Self From Judgement on Personal Grounds," It's the duty of a defense attorney to defend their client to the end - no matter what - or drop the case. Even if an attorney is certain that their client is guilty, the most they can do is ask their client to plead Guilty; it's not the lawyer's choice to make. This goes even for Matt Engarde. The duty of a defense attorney is to defend, or do nothing at all. It's up to Edgeworth to get Engarde put away.

If all else fails, they can sue him penniless in a civil court, reveal the truth there, and clear Adrian Andrews then. After all, there are a few pieces of evidence that at least suggest Adrian's innocence:

1) The hostage was found in Engarde Manor, where Shelly was playing the part of a butler. The Prosecution could argue that Adrian set up this extremely elaborate scheme to frame Matt, but this would require de Killer to be complicit in the framing... and remember what he said in court to pin the guilt on Adrian? That "betrayal," and her attempt to frame Matt, were the reasons he ostensibly testified against her in the first place!

2) Phoenix and Edgeworth bring up several good points in the last parts of the trial - de Killer didn't know that Adrian was a woman, the suicide note wasn't burned, that Engarde gave Shelly a massive 'tip,' and so on.

3) The video was taken by a secret camera, placed in a bear paid for by Matt Engarde. Thus, Matt knew about the camera. The camera was pre-set to record the moment of the murder. Conclusion: Matt Engarde set up the camera, and therefore knew of the murder in advance.

I chose Guilty. I truly believed he was guilty, and that I shouldn't escape that simply for Maya.

I chose Guilty the second time too, but I also like the Not Guilty ending too. I saved right before so I could play both. Either way, Matt was screwed, so I knew it wouldn't matter.

Though Matt got what he deserved, I love him so much. ^^ Such a smexy psychopath.

I picked Guilty the first time I played through...I didn't think they'd really kill Maya, to be honest, though I knew that there was some sort of a bad ending. Still, I just couldn't let Engarde get away either way.

I picked "Not Guilty", not because of Maya, but because it was how I view the job of being a defense attorney. It only comes up vaguely in the chapter but a defense Lawyer’s job is to make sure his client has a fair trial, no matter if he did it or not. The job of the defense attorney is to protect their clients from harm, and if they are found guilty, the prosecution had better had damn well proven it. If the prosecution can’t prove the defendant guilty, then the defendant deserves to walk free. I felt throughout the chapter that Phoenix wasn’t doing his job by trying to get Matt convicted, (the whole point of the big stall, so he also could save Maya). I felt more horrible about playing a character that was conspiring against his own client; then I do about defending a murderer.

...

Of course, if my client decides to confess, that’s his choice, and up to him if he wants out of a "not guilty" verdict.

Personally I'm still not entirely convinced that Matt did it anyway,so...

I picked guilty for three reasons:

1. I cheated, and looked at a walkthrough and found that the decision didn't matter.

2. Matt deserved to die/go to jail.

3. My opinion of a defense lawyer is that they have to do what is right. If a defense attorney decides to take a case, he must have a reasonable doubt that the client is guilty. However, once the truth is discovered, whether the client is guilty or not, that lawyer must do what's right. Sure, if he decides that his client is guilty, he loses the case. But would you really say not guilty and save yourself and your client; at the expense of an innocent person? Isn't that somewhat just like a Von Karma? Would you really care about winning so much, like that family, that you'd let a killer go, and let a poor, innocent women go to jail?

I know I wouldn't. :phoenix:

That's why I did the same thing the second time the offer came, and cringed once I found out that there was another ending. At that point it was my Perfectionism Vs. my Reasoning. At that point, I just let my perfectionism take over, much to my regret.

I picked Guilty. I was like, "No, Maya *sniff*" but I figured since she was a main character, they couldn't kill her off. Also, the note she left behind was pretty much the icing on the cake as to my decision. I chose guilty both times cuz I couldn't live with letting Enguarde go free (talk about corny), especially since Adrian Andrews was going to take his place. I felt really angry when Engarde was even bragging in court (showing his true self and everything, which surprised me) and I knew that if I wanted Maya safe, I'd have to block my mind from the truth and claim the "Not Guilty" verdict for my client. Yea, I picked Guilty both times. Now I'm curious though... I haven't played through it again yet but now I wanna see what happens when I pick not guilty...
Yea I tend to get caught up in the game, especially in these situations. Sometimes I feel like I am Phoenix Wright (although i'm a girl XD)

I chose not guilty(both) the first time I played this case. I played it. I chose guilty(both) the second time.

This is the reason why I chose "not guilty." And I am aware that this may have been discussed many times, but I just want to share my opinion. :april:

Matt never actually, physically killed Corrida. And he was charged with the murder of Corrida. He used an assassin to carry out the murder. Even though De Killer was doing his job, he still killed someone for money, and to fulfill the desire of Engarde. Who was worse: Engarde or De Killer? Of course it was Engarde, but if De Killer were a law abiding citizen, then he would never carry out the murder. But he is not a nice citizen, he is a criminal, and deserves justice. What next, De Killer will sue Engarde for Trade Libel? :enguard:

So, since Engarde did not murder anyone, but had paid someone to do so, and had malicious intent etc. He should be pressed under different, in my opinion, more severe charges (conspiracy, whatever). And be tried for that. It's amazing how the courts work in these games, you wonder if the people even go to jail. De Killer simply requested a "Not Guilty" verdict, right? And it doesn't mean that you have to pin the guilt on someone else for the murder to get off scott-free. Just use the evidence. Why do the people in the game have to start playing the moral card?

I understand that this is a game and all. :edgy: And that all of this happens in order for the story to progress, and that some things needed to be sacrificed in order to save Maya. But sometimes these things just get my goat. :may:

I picked Guilty he deserved it, but regretted it after thinking something along the lines of "NOEZ! MAYA!!!!!" How releived I was to see Franziska burst in. I swear that's the only time in the game you're actually glad to see her! (She's still awsome though.)

I picked Guilty, but not before thinking to myself, "I'm sorry Maya...". To see Phoenix think that very same thing right after really made me feel the most connected to him. I felt like I really was in his shoes, that even though an innocent friend's life was on the line, I had to reveal the truth because it was the right thing to do.

I picked Guilty, both times, because In Phoenix Land, it's about the truth (They make reference to it multiple times) When it comes down to it, both sides are (Or should be) trying to expose what is truth. Not just win their case, after all, if you look at the first case of AJ, there's a decent example of trying to find the truth.

Well, there's that, and Phoenix's master (Maya) Demanded it.

I need to go back and pick Not Guilty though, just for the giggles
