Seeing Chris and Meghan holding each other like that brought back fuzzy memories, memories Iris wished she could relive right now so she wouldn't have to be here doing this. Of course, she also wished her friend wasn't dead, Meghan wasn't being tried for her friend's murder, and her twin wasn't the one apparently bent on getting Meghan convicted. But we can't always have what we want, can we?
"Don't...don't worry!" Iris squeaked unconvincingly as the bailiff led Meghan into the courtroom. "We'll get you through this..." She took several deep breaths as she browsed over the very short court record once more and added a silent "I hope..." before heading to the defense's bench. She had a terrible case of butterflies, and she was certain she'd be seeing a lot more very soon.

Chris quickly followed Iris into the courtroom, and took his place beside her as the Defense's Aide. "Don't worry. If you need any help, that's why I'm here." He gave her a reassuring smile. "I may not be as good an aide as Phoenix would be, despite him being an actual attorney, but I'll do my best to ease some of the work." He looked out upon the court as he saw the judge getting prepared to rule over the case. "... I wonder where she is..."

"That's...a very good question," Iris mumbled quietly after several minutes of watching the prosecution's bench remain empty. Had Dahlia decided not to show up after all? No, it wasn't like her to just give up so easily once she'd set her mind to something. Perhaps she was intentionally running late so she could make a dramatic entrance; that sounded more like something she might do. If that was her plan, though, it was about to backfire horribly. The court was quickly filling with restless murmuring from the audience and the judge was beginning to twirl his gavel out of boredom.

The courtroom doors opened, and in strolled a familiar woman with a pink-white dress on. She went behind the Prosecutor's Bench, but when she looked over at the Defense's Bench, her face turned from smirk to anger. "Ah! You two!" She gritted her teeth. "How... in the world..." She couldn't believe her eyes - she had failed to drag out the one who would have most likely been a defense attorney - instead, now her sister was behind the bench? ... And with that stupid nerd, at that!

... No, wait. She knew he would come. Of course. He wanted to protect his girlfriend. Her shock turned into a sneer as she leered at him from across the courtroom. He would, of course, go so far as to attempt to help defend her... but why was her sister the DA, and not him?

"Dahlia..." Iris wilted before her twin's hateful glare. So she really had been avoiding her all these years. But why? They'd been so happy together until...

"Miss Hawthorne?" The judge addressed Dahlia, breaking up the 'happy' reunion. "I realize this is your first time, but this sort of tardiness reflects poorly on your case. Please keep that in mind for the future." Once he'd finished chewing out the prosecution, he banged his gavel and cleared his throat. "Now then... Court is now in session for the trial of Miss Meghan Rose."

An uncomfortable silence filled the court for several moments as the judge waited patiently for Iris to stop staring at her sister and reply. Finally, he prompted her with "Is the defense prepared?"

"Oh! Y-yes! I'm sorry, Your Honor!" Iris chirped nervously, snapping to military-esque attention. "The...the defense is ready!"

Dahlia smirked; this would probably be easier than she thought.

Chris spoke softly, "Don't let the seriousness of it all throw you off. I'll be here to help you."

Dahlia thrust a bit of her hair off to the side in an impatient fashion, and stated quite plainly, "The prosecution... is ready." At the last part, her demeanor took to the very cutesy fashion that many people have seen in the past. "Miss Meghan Rose..." she started, a tone of innocence in her voice. "...has been accused of the murder of Miss Suzumi Aogirl. A rightful punishment for a sinful law-breaker..." she giggled, and continued, "...but of course, Mr. Judge, you will want to know what happened. The unfortunate thing is, nobody saw the entirety of the murder... only what has been seen by other students. The actual murder was not witnessed, but we have a witness who saw what happened only seconds before the murder... and the students, of course, claimed the halls were empty otherwise."

"Thank you..." Iris whispered back as her sister gave her opening statement. She groaned inwardly; already Dahlia was using her wiles to win over the audience, essentially erasing her late arrival. It wouldn't be long before her 'butterfly aura' formed at this rate. She never did learn how exactly her sister managed to attract them like that. There weren't even any open windows in the courtroom.

"Ah, so you're saying nobody else could have committed this crime other than the defendant?" the judge grinned, seemingly pleased with his amazing skills of deduction. "That would make this case very simple, wouldn't it? Very well, Miss Hawthorne, call your witness, if you please."

"As you wish... Mr. Judge." She then stated, "Let Jade Hall take the stand, please."

The doors opened and in walked a dark-green haired girl with a white shirt and blue jeans. She walked to the stand and stood. "And there's my sister," groaned Chris. "We're going to have a time cross-examining her."

"If you would, state your name and occupation...?" said Dahlia, still in her cutesy aura.

"My name is Jade Hall," said Jade quite plainly. "I'm just starting college in a couple of months."

"Very well... could you tell us what happened on the night of the murder? ... What you saw, that is?"

Jade nodded. "Of course."

"She's quite serious..." muttered Chris. "Either she's not entirely willing to do this, or she's keeping from busting out in laughter. ... We're about to find out which it is."

-What I Saw-

"I was coming to visit my brother at the college, since the following day they would let all the college students out to graduate.

"It was getting kind of late, around early-evening, and the sky was getting dark.

"I saw two people running as fast as they could towards a building.

"It was Suzumi and Meghan! And Meghan was chasing her!"

--

Dahlia's aura faltered a little bit; she already knew that Jade had said something that wasn't part of what the prosecution knew. But she kept her innocent smile up, wanting to see if her sister could figure out what it was.

"So the defendant was chasing the victim?" The judge scratched his beard. "I see... Miss...Iris, was it? You may begin your cross-examination."

"Y-yes, Your Honor." Had she just seen Dahlia twitch a moment ago?
The testimony hadn't given her much to work with... She decided to start by pressing for more details. Iris breathed in and out once, deeply, then started her interrogation. "Jade...I mean, witness?" she asked gently. "You said it was 'early-evening' when you saw Suzumi and Meghan running towards 'a building'... Do you think you could be a bit more specific with the time, and to which building they were running?"

Jade looked over at Iris. "They were running towards the dorm buildings. It was around... I'd say between 7:30 and 8. It doesn't get really dark until after 8, y'know."

"I think she really did see it," said Chris. "What bothers me is, she seems to be entirely serious about it. I think something in the Court Record will prove that she's a bit mistaken."

"The...the Court Record?" Iris flipped through the small evidence file, double-checking everything. Nothing seemed to jump out at her until... "Oh!" She thrust her hand straight into the air and stared at the judge, waiting for him to acknowledge her.

The judge, meanwhile, had had his mind on the delicious chicken teriyaki sub he was planning to eat for lunch when he realized the defense seemed to be waiting for him to call on her as if she were in school. "Yes, Miss Iris? Do you need to use the restroom?"

"N-no!" she gasped, her face hot with embarrassment. "I...I had an objection to the witness' last statement..."

"Oh, was that all?" the judge chuckled. "You know, if you want to object to something, all you have to do is shout it out nice and clearly."

"Shout...?" Iris repeated timidly. "But...is that really necessary? It seems a little rude, doesn't it?"

The judge's eyes widened in suprise. He hmmed as he took a moment to consider this for the first time since being elected. "Well, now that you mention it... I suppose it is a bit rude, isn't it? However..." He shook his head. "It's always worked before and I'm a bit too set in my ways to change things now."

Iris cast her eyes to the desk before her, looking as if she'd just found out Santa Claus wasn't real. "O-oh, I see..." She clenched her fists, sucked in as much air as she could...

"Now then," the judge continued. "What was it you were-"

"OBJECTION!!" Iris shrieked as loudly as she could, catching even herself off-guard. She had no idea she could yell like that; the scream was still echoing off the walls several seconds later.

Once the judge reseated himself properly, he glared at the defense bench. "You have our attention, Miss Iris!" he snapped. "Please, get on with it!"

"I...I'm so sorry, Your Honor..." Iris mumbled. If her face was hot before, it was in flames now. She coughed politely and did her best to press on. "The witness said she saw my client chasing Suz...the victim...outside the dorms between 7:30 and 8 PM, right before the mur...t-the incident. But I have here testimony from one of the victim's dormmates claiming the victim was in her room for several hours before the...incident." She passed the student's testimony to a bailiff, who then passed it to the judge.

"Hmm..." The judge twisted his lip as he read. "This does seem to pose a problem."

Iris leaned over her desk towards Chris' sister and spoke to her in the same sweet tone she'd used during the cross-examination. "Jade, please, be completely honest now. Are you absolutely sure the people you saw were Meghan Rose and Suzumi Aogirl?"

"Well..." Jade scratched the back of her head nervously. "I was pretty sure it was Suzumi that I saw... I know it was Meghan who was chasing because I had seen her face before the chase. She dyed her hair black. But the girl she was chasing had blond hair... Suzumi had dyed her hair blond, from what my brother had told me..."

"... That's true, I did tell you," acknowledged Chris. "But how are you so sure you saw Suzumi?"

"... I wasn't," said Jade. "I was pretty sure it was her, since I didn't know who else she'd be chasing. But if she wasn't in her room the entire time... it must have been someone else Meghan was chasing."

The gallery erupted.

"You thought?" quipped Dahlia, still wearing her sweet smile. "I don't think thoughts count as testimony in a court of Law, Ms. Hall."

The judge banged his gavel, calling for order. "So," he said once he had his silence, "You saw someone with the same hair color as the victim being chased?" He thought about this for a moment, then smiled. "Well, alright, it seems like an honest mistake. I mean, I myself wore my wife's pumps to court one time. They're black, just like my shoes, and I've asked her again and again not to leave them right next to mine..."

"Hey, Chris?" Iris whispered, trying to ignore the judge's rambling. "This is good, right? If the woman Jade saw wasn't Suzumi, that proves Meghan is innocent, right?" she smiled.

((OOC: Oh man, that's priceless.

Both the Judge's rambling and Iris' comment, I mean.))

Chris' face fell. "Er... remember that we already knew Suzumi was in her room prior to the murder... I'm the one that got that note and showed it to you." He then looked outward. "Jade, I"m going to have to ask you to tell us the truth." He gave her a stern look.

Jade recoiled as a result. "A-Alright, I'll tell! Like the Judge said, it was an honest mistake!"

:testimony:

"It was an odd sight, really - Meghan's a really nice person!

"I...I guess I should have known it wouldn't be that easy..." Iris sweatdropped. "I wonder why Meghan would have been chasing someone with a knife..."

"I think we'd all like to know that," the judge chimed in. "Your cross-examination, please, Miss Iris."

"Ah! Y-yes, Your Honor!" Had she said that out loud?
Iris pressed her finger to her lips as she contemplated the short testimony. Jade certainly wasn't giving her much to work with... "You said the other girl had a knife? Could you describe it? The knife, I mean."

"The knife itself? Well, it looked like your average everyday knife... I mean... usually the hilt is the thing that's different between most knives," mused Jade. "At least, that's what I learned once in school."

"You learned about knives?" sweatdropped Chris. "What the hell do they teach you in that place?"

"Anyway, it kinda seemed odd to me that Meghan would chase someone that had a knife... she must've had a reason for doing so."

"That's not even what bugs me," muttered Chris. "It's the fact that someone else was supposedly carrying that knife last night... assuming it's the same one..."

"Yeah..." Iris concurred quietly. "Saying so might be a really bad thing for us, but I guess there's a chance that hiding it might end up hurting us more..." She folded her hands before her, cleared her throat, and shouted out a rigid yet far less shrill "Objection!" Once the court had fallen silent from her outburst, she turned to the judge. "Was that better, Your Honor?"

"Yes, that was much better, Miss Iris," the judge smiled, without missing a beat.

"I'm glad to hear that. Thank you, Your Honor," Iris smiled back. The pleasantries over, she faced the witness again. "Jade?" Iris pulled a photo out of the Court Record and held it up so Chris' sister could see it clearly. "Does this look like the knife you saw the blond girl holding?"

Jade stared at the picture of the knife carefully, before shaking her head. "The blades are different. That looks like a one-sided knife... like one you'd use in a kitchen. The one I saw looked like a switchblade."

The courtroom erupted.

"A switchblade?" Chris echoed. "Are you absolutely sure?"

"Yes." Jade nodded. "Meghan was not carrying a knife at all."

Chris looked at Iris. "Think about it. If she saw the girl holding a knife that was different from the one used, why would Meghan have chased her? Better yet, why was Meghan not holding a weapon, if she was indeed the killer? Most importantly, who is this other girl, and why was she not at the scene of the crime, nor seen by the others?"

Dahlia grinned at them from across the courtroom. "Without evidence, I'm afraid you'll find you won't get far with the theory I think you're trying to come up with..."

"...And of course, we don't have any," he muttered. "But that doesn't mean you can't present a damned good theory. What do you think of this new revelation?"

"Um, w-well..." Iris stammered. Deer in the headlights time. She shuffled through the Court Record again, quickly trying to piece together everything she knew. "Er...so Meghan and the blond girl were running toward the dorms where Suzumi lived, right? A-and the other girl had a knife, and Meghan was chasing the girl with the knife...so maybe Meghan realized what the other girl was going to do and tried to stop her? But then Meghan fell unconscious, and a different knife was found with her fingerprints, so, um...maybe the other girl was the one to knock her out and put her fingerprints on the other knife..." Iris knitted her brow. "Which...would make the other girl...the real murderer?"
She looked around the courtroom at everyone's reactions. "Is...is it okay for me to say that?" she asked sheepishly.

Chris nodded. "That would seem to be the logical--"

:objection:

Dahlia objected with a powerful voice, pointing straight out at her sister. "'Which would make the other girl the real killer?' You can't be serious." She had a smirk on her face. "Do you have any proof of this?"

"I think the testimony from the witness is enough to suggest that it's a possibility," said Chris, rising an eyebrow.

"A possibility. Nothing more." Dahlia tilted her head. "Do you honestly believe that testimony is enough to establish everything? I believe proof... is what we need here."

Chris stared over at her for a second... and nodded. "Of course. If her testimony is as stands, that can only mean one thing - there was a third person involved with the murder."

"But what about the proof?"

"Can you prove there was not a third person at the scene, Ms. Hawthorne? I believe the witness has no reason to lie; she is under oath."

"Is that any reason to trust her? She is your own sister, after all..." she smirked again. "And--"

:holdit:

Chris sweatdropped. Dahlia looked shocked.

Jade protested. She stared over at Dahlia, and said, "You want proof? Is that what you want? I have it. Right here." She procured a picture from her pocket. "See this? Here's your damn proof."

In the picture was exactly as she stated: a blonde girl being chased by a black-haired girl.

:objection:

"This... picture... how did you obtain it!?" Dahlia nearly shrieked.

"I took it, of course," said Jade. "You'll find that the lighting in the picture proves what time it was."

The gallery erupted.

"But... you can't see the knife in the blonde girl's hands!" protested Dahlia.

"That...that seems to be the case..." Iris countered feebly. "But you have to admit, big sister, that this girl must play some part in all of this! We can't possibly declare a verdict against Meghan without at least finding out who this girl is!"

"Now just one moment!" the judge bellowed, slamming his gavel.

Iris yelped and shrunk under her bench. Maybe that last comment was overstepping her bounds?

"About what you just said, Miss Iris...the prosecution is your sister?"

If there had been the slightest of breezes in the courtroom, it would have toppled Iris. "...er...y-yes, Your Honor..." she answered, completely unable to hide the disbelief in her voice. "We're twins..identical twins..."

The judge hmmed and leaned over his desk to get a better look at the impromptu lawyers. "Yes...yes, now that you mention it...I think I do see a bit of resemblance..."

:objection:

"Be that as it may, there's no knife in this picture!" countered Dahlia, not even acknowledging the judge's previous question. "What was found on the crime scene? A knife. Whose fingerprints were on it? Ms. Rose's, of course. That can only lead to one conclusion - She was the murderer! This... 'third girl'... doesn't even have any relevance to this crime! That is all."

"I'll go ahead and add these to the Court Record anyway," whispered Chris. "They'll come in handy later."

Jade's Photo added to Court Record. (Jade's photo of Meghan chasing the blond-haired girl. No knife spotted in blond girl's hand.)

Second Knife? added to Court Record. (Jade saw a second knife at the scene that had a V-shaped blade. No other evidence can support this at this time.)

:objection:

"Y-you can't do that, Dahlia!" Iris paused for a moment to swallow and steady her voice. "Miss Rose was found unconscious at the scene of the crime! Someone could have easily put her fingerprints on the knife found there to frame her! Besides, you called Miss Hall as a witness, and she says this third girl did have a different knife! You can't just ignore that because it's inconvenient!"

"Mmm...it's so sad when siblings fight like this..." the judge mused half to himself. "Your response, Miss Hawthorne?"

Dahlia was taken aback by the objection. She then simply smirked. "...'Inconvenient?' Please. I called on her as a witness only because she was the only person who saw them. Whether or not I accept her argument, or the Judge for that matter, does not rely on that fact."

Jade rose an eyebrow. "The photo's been submitted into evidence already. If that's not enough to support my claim, you pompous--"

"Anyway!" Chris interrupted his sister before it got worse. "She has a point, Miss Hawthorne. The photo's already in evidence. If you have no more use for the witness, why not call a new one?"

Contemplation showed on Dahlia's face before she grinned. "...Of course. You are of no more use, Ms. Hall. Get off my stand."

"Whatever." Jade walked off, but before she went back to the audience chairs, she shot Iris and Chris a wink. Chris responded with a thumbs-up.

"The prosecution now calls Emily Brown to the stand!" stated Dahlia.

--

Emily stood at the stand, drawing on her pad.

"...Your name, witness?" asked Dahlia. When Emily continued to draw, she tried again: "The court would like to ask you your name and occupation, please." She had a bit of forced-sweetness in that voice, but when Emily continued to ignore her, she said: "Witness! Your! Name! And! Occupation! Please!" She looked quite angry.

Emily turned her pad around, and said, "My name is Emily Brown." She paid no mind to the seething Dahlia, but instead showed the drawing to the courtroom. "I am a graduating student at Ivy University."

The drawing consisted of the courtroom scene: Iris fidgeting, Chris standing and looking out at nothing solemnly, and the Judge looking at a quite irate Dahlia.

"...I think she's going to ask you about what you saw at the crime scene," said Chris, since Dahlia did not open her mouth to say anything.

"... I was there after the crime," said Emi. "All I can tell you is what I saw there."

"Very well then, let's hear it," said Chris.

:testimony:
-What I Saw-

"I came into the room after I saw you two leave."

"Ms. Aogirl's belongings were strewn about the room."

"The knife was lying in the floor, the blade covered with blood."

"And the window stood open, allowing the breeze in."

At the end of her testimony, Emi took out a drawing earlier in her book; it showed the crime scene, exactly as depicted.

"That looks like exactly what we saw at the crime scene yesterday," mused Chris.

((OOC: If you need a full evidence listing, tell me now. I think after this I'll start editing the first post with each new piece of evidence so you can easily follow it.

And by the way, Emi's opening made me laugh after I read it. o.o Because I could so picture that. Especially the picture she drew.

ACK! Um, shit, I forgot to add the window to the Court Record. Here it is anyway:

Dorm window - Was closed when investigated. Bore a few streaks across the sill, no fingerprints detected.))

The judge leaned forward to see the sketch Emily held. "Ho ho," he chuckled, clearly impressed with her skill. "What a helpful witness. Very well, Miss Iris, if you'd-"

:objection:

"...M-miss Iris? Is something wrong?"

"I...er...yes?" Iris blinked. "I was just objecting to the witness' last statement..."

"But..." The judge toyed with his gavel dejectedly. "I haven't asked for the cross-examination yet," he pouted.

Iris blinked again and gasped. "Ah! I-I'm sorry, Your Honor! I...I guess I got a little ahead of myself..." she blushed.

"Mmm...well, I'll allow it this time. Now, you were saying?"

"Y-yes, thank you, Your Honor," Iris smiled. She gave him a quick little bow of her head before turning back to the witness stand. "Emily, when Chris and I left the room, the window was closed." She was about to ask if she may have been mistaken, but then she realized Emily wasn't the type to remember details like that incorrectly.

Emi merely blinked. "...It was?"

Chris nodded. "It was closed. Streaks were found near the windowsill, but the window itself was not open."

"...It must have been my mistake, then." Emi seemed to fidget a bit with her sketchbook.

Wait. Did her hands just... twitch a bit? Chris tilted his head in confusion, but then shook it - he must have been mistaken. "Emi, please, can you try again? And, as a special request, could you describe some more things in detail?"

Emi nodded, not changing her expression.

:testimony:
-What I Saw, Part 2-

"I must have seen the window wrong."

"The blood was mostly on the bed, but some of it was on the ground."

"The knife was lying there. It had an oddly-shaped blade."

--

"Are you sure this is accurate, Emi?" asked Chris.

Emi nodded in response.

(OOC: :ayame: My...my bracelet! It's trying to tell me something!

And no worries, I'd rather be nudged in the right direction than left in the dark anyhow.)

"So the window was closed after all..." The judge dwelled on that bit of information entirely too long. "Well, that makes sense. It was getting late and it wouldn't do to have someone break in while Miss Aogirl was asleep...Miss Iris, your cross-examination, please."

Miss Iris, unfortuantely, wasn't paying any attention to the judge at all; she was currently lost in her own thoughts. She...was mistaken? That doesn't sound like Emi at all...

"...Miss Iris?"

"Ah!" She quickly snapped back to reality. "S-sorry, Your Honor! Right away!" She took a moment to think about Emily's testimony once more. There was one thing that seemed to stand out... "Witness? This knife you saw, with the oddly-shaped blade...what was so odd about the shape?"

Emi blinked. "It was odd because it had a V shape. Most knifes I see are the ones you would normally find in a household kitchen. The single-curve blade..."

Chris rose an eyebrow. "A V-shape? Are you certain?"

Emi nodded. "They call those switchblades, I think... they're banned in school."

"I see..."

"A...switchblade?" Iris bit her lip as she sifted through the Court Record to double-check something. "But...wait, no! That can't be right! I object! Objection!"

The judge nodded knowingly to Iris' outburst. "Yes, I can see why you would. I mean, switchblades in our colleges? What's the world coming to?"

"N-no, that's not what I meant!" Iris sputtered, holding up the photo of the alleged murder weapon. "Chris...er...Mr. Hall and I found a kitchen knife at the scene of the crime yesterday, not a switchblade!"

"WHAT?!" The judge pounded his gavel to silence the sudden roar of confusion from the audience. "Order! ORDER! Miss Iris, what is going on here?"

"I...I don't know...I'm sorry, Your Honor..." Iris mumbled. She looked down to watch herself twiddle her thumbs. "I'm just as confused as you are..."

Chris didn't seem fazed by this at all. "It is odd, isn't it? A switchblade on the floor, but look - even Emi's drawing shows a kitchen knife." He pointed out her drawing, and then looked at Emi. "...Emily. You must understand that your drawing means a lot to your testimony. If your testimony does not match up to what you drew, we must distrust this."

Emi shook her head. "But the drawing is what I see."

"I understand that... Iris." He turned to her. "All of this has to point to something. Can you figure it out? If Emi draws what she sees, and she apparently saw all that, but she testified to seeing something else... what does it all come down to? I will help if you need it."

((OOC: The last sentence was mostly to you, Fran, instead of the char Iris. This may be a bit tough to figure out, I'm not sure. If you're in the dark, tell me and I'll give you a hint. Forgive me if this sounds demeaning because I really don't know how good you are at solving mysteries like this.

I'll go ahead and give you one hint that just occurred to me now: It'll cause kind of a contradiction in my case logic, but it'll have to do.))

(OOC: ...this is a lot easier in the game, when it's given as a multiple choice.)

Iris flinched, then dropped her eyes again. Sweeping the courtyard back at the temple was sounding awfully tempting right about now...
"Umm, w-well..." she started. "If Emi saw one thing but she's testifying to something else...the obvious answer would be that she's lying to protect Meghan..." Even without looking at her, she could feel Dahlia's triumphant sneer from across the courtroom. "B-but...but wait, that doesn't make sense, either...I mean...the switchblade! She couldn't have known about that unless she'd seen it before, right? Jade only testified about it minutes ago, while Emi was still in the lobby...and there's the window... I can't imagine what the point would be in lying about whether it was open or closed..."

((OOC: Alright, I'll give you one. After this post. Although it'll probably be obvious once I show you.))

"That's for you to figure out... dear sister," smirked Dahlia.

"Think about it, Iris. Emi wouldn't lie, even to protect someone. she doesn't protect people like that. There can be only one answer as to why she's testifying, to our knowledge, 'incorrectly.'" Chris attempted to help her.

((OOC: Emi was:

1. Lying to protect Meghan.

2. Mistaken about what she testified to.

3. Witnessing a different scene than Chris and Iris did.))

(OOC: I...considered that, but it still doesn't make any sense. *goes with it anyway*)

"I...I know she wouldn't lie..." Iris whispered abashedly. "But...I don't believe she could make so many mistakes, either, so...um...maybe...what she saw was different?"

"Different, Miss Iris?" the judge inquired.

"Y-yes, Your Honor. Different."

"What exactly do you mean by 'different?'"

"W-well..." Iris stammered. "The crime scene the witness...um...witnessed was different from the one Mr. Hall and I saw...maybe?"

"But didn't the witness say she entered the room after the two of you left? How could she have seen something different?"

"...I...I'm new at this, Your Honor..." Iris mumbled sadly.
