Please do. I'll pay you in Internets.

I was mostly joking before, but I guess it does make sense (especially what Kristophlover said). I was entirely serious about Gumshoe, though.

Seriously: Gumshoe is Edgey's yes man. He's probably the person he spends the most time around, even if it is a professional relationship. Gumshoe was the only one who knew that Edgey wasn't dead in JFA, and was obviously in contact with him (if not for the entire time, at least near the end). I've sort of imagined Gumshoe as being one of the people, if not the person, who knows Edgeworth the best. They have a lot of faith in each other, and I'm suspicious as to what sort of deep shit Edgey had to drag him out of for Gumshoe to be his stalker to care about him so much.

Well, I dunno, Edgey Cuts his pay every case in the first game, maybe Gumshoe is living in his attic and borrowing money off him?

I never understood that... Why do prosecutors have that sort of power?

But you do bring up an excellent point: Where does Edgey live?

My fanon is that Miles inherited 'Edgeworth Manor' after Gregory died (and after he turned 18 and blah blah blah, which would have been around when he moved back to the States from Germany). The Edgeworth family being relatively wealthy, Edgeworth Manor would probably be a large, extravagant house in the suburbs, with a perfectly manicured lawn and Victorian-style decor. It's probably full of artefacts that are culturally-relevant to the countries Edgeworth's travelled to and prosecuted in, and it would be blindingly clean if not for Pess shedding so much.

Gumshoe wouldn't make it in the front door without marring or breaking something valuable, much less the attic. Maybe Edgey has a toolshed or something...

I was under the impression that Gregory Edgeworth was more of a middle-class sort of person. Then again, what modern family dresses their kid up in a coat and shorts... real backwards if you ask me, and -that- particular bit of fashion retro was BEFORE Manfred von Karma's cravatiation.

Crazy character designers are crazy.

Great, now for some reason I had a picture of a homeless single father Gregory Edgeworth trying to make ends meet as he drags Miles around with him to find a place to stay for the night. (And then he makes it big as a stock broker, what)

I'm working it on, it might take a day or two though, I'm a pretty busy guy and my computer isn't super great, but I'll try to get it done pretty quick.

Anywho.

How do you think Edgey Will be acting in oh say...Seven Years? I mean people Grow and Change, he obviously changed from his first case to his first With Phoenix, and from there to where we left him, do you think he'll change much by the next time we see him? (We know we'll see him again)

Edgeypoo is still learning and still figuring things out about himself. He may not change that much, but any change would be noticeable. In T&T, he seems like he's made a ton of progress in comparison to the first game, post-trauma rehash especially. (Until then, he kept everything tucked away deep inside.) Though he might not show it, he's a good guy at heart, and we all know that.

Edgeypoo is already tight anyway with :phoenix: and somewhat with :larry2: , lol. Maybe, with this new prosecutor game that may be coming out, (though there isn't any official word from what I've seen, correct me if I'm wrong) Edgey will try to patch things up with :eh?:. From his side of things anyway. (Gumshoe feels for the guy already, it's Edgey that's playing the villan, calling him out on everything and cutting pay as we've all seen.)

Wow... You guys wrote a lot while I were at work... Anyway... It's continuing the discussion on :franny: and It's a little off topic so I put it in spoiler (I don't think it'll actually spoil you to read it)

Spoiler:
About :franny: she's obviously not :karma: himself but, you can clearly see the relation. :franny: also one complicated kid. Being so much under the affect of :karma:, suddenly everything she knew in life and basicly her leader and ruler was gone because of some kid ( :phoenix: ) she was obviously pissed.
I think deep down inside she's looking for someone to lead her :edgy: was in a point in life after a lot of thinking and alone time and :phoenix: 's influence he came back a changed man
:edgy: was so happy with the change he wanted to pass his good feelings into others (Damn he's cute!) and the perfect person who needs his words the most at the time was :franny:. I agree she got soft, but, I still think she's too confused to admit it. BTW I think I missed something in the 2nd game... I never had the feeling :edgeworth: is dead... I though he was just gone to Europe or something and :phoenix: don't want to talk about him because he missed him and was hurt (If I'll continue this sentence it'll get back to :phoenix: + :edgeworth: so I'm stopping here.)

:eh?: adores :edgeworth: footsteps (can't blame him) the only reason he started being nice to :phoenix: is because he saw :edgy: started to like him.
Anyway... :edgy: seven years from then... it's hard to Imagen... I don't know how many of you played the 4th game so here's another "spoiler" window...

Spoiler:
I had this though :edgy: would come to visit :hobohodo: from the great beyond of Europe* (1st he'd be really sad about :hobohodo: being out-of job and letting himself go like he did after all :phoenix: is kind of :edgeworth: 's Emo-mentor . But, I think he made such a big process he wouldn't be crushed by it. ) He'd be amazed to meet :minuki: and make fun of :odoroki: (I've got the feeling he'll really make fun of him being :phoenix: wannabe) but, mostly he would come to meet :kyouya: . I think he'll adore :kyouya:. :kyouya: would be half a god to him. :kyouya: succeeded were :edgy: :edgeworth: failed and was really prostrated at the time plus he came with all of :edgeworth: new philosophy of finding the truth and being true to himself when he was only a young prosecutor on his 1st case. :kyouya: probably heard of :edgy: and would be interested in meeting him. I really hope they'll show their meeting on the next game. My 2 favorite characters
:edgeworth: YOU are the great Klavier Gavin?
:kyouya: (detected another fan) In the flesh... You are...?
:edgeworth: Miles Edgeworth
:kyouya: Really? THE Miles Edgeworth?
:edgy: In the flesh

*Did you noticed that everytime a character isn't the game it turned out later they were in Europe?
**Did you noticed all the prosecutors (except from :godot:) were somehow raised in Germany?

Now I can't get that image out of my head :larry: That's so sad!

(But I still say the the Edgeworths are rich, or at least upper-middle class)

Shira, good observations and I hate to burst your bubble, but Payne is not from Germany. But I'm pretty sure you're on the right track with the Europe thing, at least for when we're told where they've gone.

A bit off topic, but the localization does have a lot of European connections, even though the game takes place in the States. Germany is something like 'the' place to be for studying law, and four characters are of German descent. There's also a strong French connection; several characters have French names, Ron and Dessie are French, and Armstrong is an insult to the country and the language.

---

And now back OT, Kristophlover brought up Edgey's relationship with his buddies ( :phoenix: and :larry: ). I really like that relationship... it's like my friendship OTP. I forget who said it, but I remember reading a famous quote that went something like:

"Friends who are truly linked do not need correspondence. When they see each other again after years apart, their friendship is as true as it always was."

I think it's true for those three. Edgeworth spent fifteen years away from his friends, and although he's blinded at first by his rivalry with Nick, there's an obvious connection there. With Larry, too; in 3-5 you really get a better understanding of the sort of friendship they have. Edgeworth says something like, "Larry's been my friend since grade school, but I can't remember why", which is extremely indicative of the kind of 'you drive me crazy but you're still my friend' relationship that they have.

It's cute :edgy:

It did say in the game that Edgeworth left a note that said "Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death" after the events of the first game. It was also stated several times that people thought he was dead, including Phoenix. And Franny at one point in the game told Phoenix outright that she knows he's still alive somewhere.

That's a great quote, Marshmello. I think that's so true. I have a couple of friends like that, and I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. :edgy:

And yes I love the friendship shared between Edgey, Phoenix, and Larry. I could never get enough of them. This calls for some pictures!

I think the person above me might be a fan of Edgeworth.

Anyway, I wonder what he does for fun (Other than watch Steel Samurai) He seems like a Book person to me, but then again, he wouldn't seem like a steel Samurai Fan. Maybe he plays Phoenix Wright games...

Thanks for the pictures, Aevitas :edgy: They're adorable! I love how Larry's always the one in the middle... somehow it fits.

Lol, Zeon, that would be like a super paradox. Though Edgey would probably get really frustrated if he had to play as Phoenix. He would probably keep presenting wrong evidence, either to spite Nick or just because he would suck at the games (I know he's smart, but somehow I can't imagine him being good at video games).

I can see Edgeworth being a heavy reader, but he also seems like an uber work-a-holic, so I don't know if he would actually have a lot of time for hobbies. But what sort of books would he read? John Grisham?

In relation to hobbies, I can't imagine Edgeworth being particularly skilled or talented at anything that isn't intellectual (like chess or sudoku). I can see him burning toast.

Aevitas - LOVE the one of them playing video games. It's so un-Edgey-like, and yet it seems perfect.

As for what Edgeworth does in his spare time - perhaps he writes puzzle books? No, actually, I think he would probably spend a lot of time researching obscure subjects, like fish and automatons. Maybe he tries to figure out how to work a computer. We know he's bad at arts and crafts, so thats out.

Oh, and Marshmello, your post just made me imagine Edgeworth sticking a fork in a toaster. It's a happy picture. *goes to get pencil and paper*

Which, in turn, makes me happy. :edgy: And Edgey would so be researching random subjects. It's, like, his job to be a compendium of random knowledge.

But we do know that Edgey watches Star Wars.

And slightly but not really off topic: I can't wait for Gyakuten Kenji :edgy: :edgy: :edgy: :edgy: Point-and-click adventures return with a vengeance!

I could see him presenting wrong evidence because he was spiteful, but I Could also see it just because he thinks like a Prosecutor and would be absentmindedly trying to find the client Guilty.

I do have a video mildly relevant to that that I'm sure everyone has seen, but I'm gonna post it anyway.

I absolutely love the image of Edgeworth reading John Grisham.

Lol, I love how Miles is so behind the times. A pink GBA SP instead of a DS... lol.

And not only that, but if computers weren't so important in this day and age, and they were only used for recreational use, I guarentee you Edgey wouldn't know how to use one. (assuming he can in the game for work.) I can also see him listening to classical music at full blast in his frilly and pink office, lol. Epic. (We all know he spends his time in solitude sipping tea and eating crumpets, lol.) Maya and Nick need to take him out to the movie theater and hang out with Edgey. Even though he has friends in the truest sense, Edgey still seems distant.

I agree with you on that, but only if computers weren't 'useful'. I'm pretty sure he has one in his office, so we can assume that he at least knows how to use it to write up reports and junk.

... I just got a vision of Miles playing 3D Pinball.

kristophlover967 wrote:

I think that Edgey would be a fan of the old black-and-white movies, and retro noir detective films. In more recent times I can imagine him tearing up while watching chick flicks, but that's just my inner fantard.

kristophlover967 wrote:

That's one of the things that's so captivating about his character. The end on 1-4 is the only time we really see him without his guard up, and he was so abashed that the fangirl inside of everyone just squee'd and wanted to hug him (... okay, that's just me). The rest of the time he's very reserved, which is why his moments with people like Larry and Oldbag are so precious, because they always catch him off-guard. I love how during the game you can see him coming out of his shell bit-by-bit, and then crawling back into it. It's like his identity as the 'cold prosecutor' is his security blanket, and whenever he thinks that he's showing too much of his inner-self he piles on the apathy and the sarcasm.

Agreed. I fail to see just what definitive proof there is that he loves men. However, I'm pretty sure that this thread wasn't made to debate Edgeworth's sexuality or post counter-arguments. I have yet to see a prosecutor (or even a character in general) who can compete with Edgeworth in my book. He always seems to know exactly what he's doing, and he can make quick work of a problem.

I don't think he is gay, just from the little evidence that has been shown. He might be, but just because he's not a dog and he doesn't drool over every babe with big boobs or a pretty face like the other males in the game doesn't mean he is gay. He has dignity and class, that's all. Quite admirable, actually.

Does Miles Edgeworth believe in God?

Okay, so maybe not that epic, but still a thinking question nonetheless. I already have an idea about what I'm gonna post in response to my own question, but I'd like to write it in my head first. Besides, pizza's on. See you awesome people in an hour!

I don't know if that's such a great question to ask, because it could potentially turn this thread into an argument about theism.

But as an answer, I'm leaning towards Edgey being an atheist. He's calculating and logical, and he firmly believes that nothing can be proven without decisive evidence. He has a highly sceptical attitude towards spirit channelling, and regardless of which religion, I can't imagine him dwelling much on it. He's a work-a-holic, and he has a lot more important things to think about. I really can't see him praying or attending religious ceremonies. Not only would he probably not have time for it, but Edgey's not the kind of guy to be dependent on anyone or, by extension, any deity.

Oops... I didn't realize that something like that might happen when I posted the question. Sorry, I tend to do things kinda rashly when I get excited. Can y'all ever forgive me? I honestly don't want anyone to argue about theism here. I respect all beliefs. Is there, like, anything I can do to try and stop the arguments before they start, or did I pretty much screw it up already?

I'd forgive you, if there were any reason to. Your question was an entirely valid topic for discussion, but given that this is the Internet you never know when ignorant assholes will swoop in and ruin it. I'm just cautious about that sort of thing, because I've seen a lot of hateful and evangelical (anti-)religious arguments, and this really is no place for that.

So if we can discuss it maturely, I'm all for it, but I'd tread lightly on controversial grounds.

Oh, I've seen far too much religious hate for one lifetime; I'll bet my life on that. I honestly hope that CR is not like some of the places I've been. Scratch that. I know CR isn't like them.

I'd actually have to say that Edgey is not an atheist. My father happens to be an atheist, and I have come to associate the term with someone who is openly opposed to a belief in God. Edgeworth, as you said, is a work-a-holic (Or he strikes us as such), and he strikes me more as one of those people who just doesn't care. Most of the other things you pointed out could also lead to this conclusion. I believe he wouldn't go to church, temple, synagouge, mosque, or whatever other houses of worship there may be, and that he would spend little to no time even considering the possibility of a God. I don't know if there's a word for that, but if there is, Edgey is one.

That's just my opinion, of course, probably influenced by my atheist father as mentioned earlier.

Agnosticism is the belief that the existence of a god or gods cannot be proven. There are plenty of devoutly religious people who are agnostic.

The word you're looking for Clarissa is 'irreligious'. It means that they may or may not believe in spiritual concepts, but don't pursue their (non-)belief. According to Wikipedia:
Quote:
Although people classified as irreligious might not follow any religion, not all are necessarily without belief in the supernatural or in deities; such a person may be a non-religious or non-practicing theist.

Hope that sums it up :edgy:

Yes, that sums it up very well, Marshmello. Thank you. I was going to say something about agnostic not being the right word, but ya beat me to it. Oh, and the name's actually Cassie, as my signature will tell. Doesn't matter, though, since Clarissa is my character in an awesome vampire RP, and when I hear that name I think of myself.

Actually, we're both right I believe, though your word fits better for what she is looking for in her example, but to me, Edgeworth still seems more the type that if he were leaning in a direction, I'd say it would be agnostic, it just depends on what Dictionary you pick up.

2. a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study.

3. of or pertaining to agnostics or agnosticism.
4. asserting the uncertainty of all claims to knowledge.

Whereas...

1.
1. One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.

2. One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.

adj.

1. Relating to or being an agnostic.
2. Doubtful or noncommittal: "Though I am agnostic on what terms to use, I have no doubt that human infants come with an enormous 'acquisitiveness' for discovering patterns" (William H. Calvin).

There are more, which have slight variations on the above, but I personally feel that he'd fit under

2. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.

OR 1. a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.

Because while he is a workaholic, he seems like the type that would take a little time to think about such matters. just because he seems like the type that thinks a lot. Being that he's said he's a man of Science, I'd say that he might come to a place where he doubts the existence of a higher force, but doesn't care enough to try and rain on anyone else's parade.

Then there is "irreligious"

2. showing or characterized by a lack of religion.
3. showing indifference or hostility to religion: irreligious statements.

This pretty much seems true of him to, 1 and 2 in particular, 3 could be true, depending on if you think he's taken time to think about it or not, if he hasn't, then I'd say he'd be indifferent. If he has, I think he would probably be more or less doubtful, but not Hostile.

But, long and sort of it, to the first question that was asked, "Do you think that Edgeworth believes in a higher power" No matter what words we want to use to split hairs, I think so far everyone has said "No, probably not." in their own words, Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you've just about wrapped it up, Zeon :edgy: Good post!

I was thinking about this a while ago, and I'm at the conclusion that Edgeworth has a weak constitution. He doesn't get ill at any point during the games (but then, the only one we ever hear about getting sick is Phoenix), but I've always thought of it like maybe he acts cold and proud and displays so much inner strength to compensate for the fact that he has a physical weakness. I can imagine him coming down with something, but ignoring it or pretending that nothing's wrong, and shrugging off anyone who told him to get some rest or made him chicken soup (you all know Gumshoe would try to help).

I mentioned it briefly in another thread (totally can't remember where now), but I also imagine Edgeworth having a really low tolerance for alcohol. He's the kind of guy who would drink fancy wine on special occasions to look cool, I think, but I can see others having a hard time getting him to drink casually.

I had my own small fan-fantasy of Miles ending the night with a hard drink, just like some of our favorite noir detectives :hyde: I guess it just goes more in hand with a tough and withdrawn masculine composure.

On the other hand, he does seem to be the sort that would know the culinary arrangements of specific beverages and wines paired with meals.

@Zeon - Yes, that sums it up quite nicely. I'm glad there was no fighting. :will: Not that I thought there would be any in the first place.

@Marshmellow - I have day dreams about that kind of stuff all the time during class. Not so much the low tolerence for alcohol and such, but I often imagine him getting sick and then acting like nothing's wrong. I know it seems boring, but I'm a writer, so I kinda write little stories about it in my head. Yeah, enough about my creepiness. But anyway, what I was actually getting to in this post was telling y'all about a really great fanfic kinda related to this. If any of you know Struggling Against Gravity, and have read the latest chapter, you'll know what I'm talking about. Now, Struggling's a P/E fanfic, and I'm not trying to spark any debates in here, but in the 7th chapter (Which I believe is the latest, and if it's not, then I'm talking about whatever the newest chapter is.) something very interesting happens to our dear Edgeworth (It is very squee worthy). I shall not spoil it, but I reccomend reading it. You don't have to read the other chapters, but keep in mind that it is a P/E fanfic. (I'm really not trying to start a conversation about Edgey pairings, I sware. I apoligize profusely if anything starts, or if it seems like I'm trying to bring a taboo topic into this thread.)

EDIT: I just realized a very stupid mistake with my post. The lack of a link! Though most of you have probably already found this in the fanfic section of CR or searched Google and found it, I shall post this anyway.
Struggling Against Gravity.

EDITx2: Man, I feel like I did something really wrong 'cause no one's replying. Did I do something bad? TALK TO ME PLEASEEEEEEEEE! :accordion-head:

*Anime blush* Heh, thanks, I do try. There is a side of me that feels a kinship to Edgeworth, so some parts of my persona are quite a bit like him (Other parts are polar opposite)

Anyway, I could see him working through a sickness, or hang over...Well, honestly, I can't see him getting a hangover, he seems the type that would be pretty obsessed with wanting to be in control of himself (another trait I feel that I have in common with him) and thus, him getting drunk seems just shy of impossible to me, one of those, "Only if Franny/Phoenix/Larry (Maybe) was murdered" things.

That's why I said that I think people would have a hard time getting him to drink. He's far too concerned with his self-image to easily be willing to risk getting drunk and doing something stupid, but I imagine that once he actually started drinking he would lack the capacity to stop. :-P

And Cassie (I got it right, right?), I'm about halfway through the first chapter of Struggling Against Gravity (I was going to be lazy and use the acronym, but no. Just no). It's good so far, but I'm a very slow reader, so it might take me a while to get to the last chapter. :yuusaku:

Yup, you got it right! Not that I really mind either way, but it's kinda nice to have people actually call you by name on the web. Back OT: It's okay, I know a lot of slow readers. (I know many people who read slower than me, considering my friends and I tend to read as fast as supercomputers.) Still, you really must try and hurry to the 7th chapter. I'm sorry I'm being so anal about it, but I can hardly help squeeing every time I think of what happens. *squees* Opps. Couldn't help myself, I sware.

Okay, IDK why it's mega, but this thread desperately needed the bump. It's about Edgeworth for Godot's sake! I'm ashamed that you people let it lie for this long :edgeworth:

jk. It's sort of sad that there are only like four people on this thread, so I'll go easy on you.

Time to lazily attempt to stir some more discussion!

That's one of the official arts for Gyakuten Kenji (I can't stop imagining that game as 'Edgeworth meets Monkey Island'. If only.)

I chose it because we were talking about Edgey's relationship with Gumshoe earlier, and this picture is worth ten-thousand words in that respect.

I also adore Edgeworth's expression: He looks so lost, it makes you wonder what he's looking for (I'm betting it's Pess... Ima go make a sig of that nao...)

Cassie: I just finished chapter four. Isn't that pathetic?

OMFG, I can't wait for GK! I'm. Dying. Over. Heeeeere! That pic is so cute; I love it! But as to their relationship... I think that Gumshoe just really looks up to Edgeworth as a good, honest man, and he's will to do anything to make his boss happy, if only to gain the man's approval; becuase to him, it's worth a lot more than any amount of money. I find it really adorable, honestly. I mean, I've tried to capture the Edgey/Gumshoe realtionship so many times (Not with those two characters, but with others of my own design) in my writing, but every time I just can't get it right.

P.S. No, Marshmello, you're not really pathetic, but your seriously need to hurry up before I spoil it for you. And you don't want that, do you?
