Even though I'm not usually a fan of survival horror games, Silent Hill is one of my favorite series. I got the second and fourth game for Christmas, finished the third a few weeks ago, and just started on Origins.

... a little out of order, I guess, but it's worked well enough for me so far. xD

My personal favorite is SH2. I liked how it was disturbing in more of a subtle way, rather than the later games, which seemed to rely more on gore and shock horror to scare you. It also has one of my favorite gaming soundtracks, and the story is a nice change of pace from the (now worn-out, IMO) cult plot the rest of the series has.

So, what does everyone else think of SH?

Well, I first played Silent Hill 2. Technically I didn't play though. I just watched my brothers play it while I direct them on where to go. Since my brothers come home from work late, the only time we really played it was at night x ____ x;

The story was rather sad though, once you find out what really happened to his wife. I don't really remember the game that much, but a lot of psychological elements were placed into the second game. I had a nightmare with Pyramid Head in it before... S-so scary > <

I swear, I feel like I'm the only person who's yet to play Silent Hill 2. >.< I'm lacking in an awesome game, but apparently as long as I watch Jacob's Ladder, I get a general idea of what it's about. But in general, I really like the SH series. I think that 3 has some of the best vocal music, though all of them have good music in general.

I've played 3 & 4, and have watched a friend play Origins. Now that it's out on PS2, I'll probably go and buy that as well. I'm looking pretty forward to 5. Though a lot of people seem against it, I think it looks pretty cool.

Love the story telling. Really, it's great. I was kinda disappointed in 3 with that though, because I found they kind of cut it short in that aspect, and left a lot of unanswered questions (like who the hell was singing happy birthday to you in the hospital? O.o; ). Still, a good game. 4 Was the first one I played, and it sort of broke my mind without me expecting it, because one day, I just had this horrible dream about things coming out of my wall. Not cool. X

I first played Silent hill when I wanted to rented RE2 I think or was that RE3 that I rented instead.

I played that up to the last area never did finish it till I decide to buy a copy later on, GH version(I hate that greenish). I got all of them on the ps2(well except SH duh <_<). I haven't started with origin yet. I did view SH Experience. The comics make me go O_o. Are they apart of the series or something separate? The first one is has something to do with some reporter and the key word hunger. The 2nd one seams to be about a turf war in Silent hill.

They are American comics and are not written nor established by people of Konami. So, no, they have nothing to do with the official story line.

I'm a huge fan of the Silent Hill series . . . but, to my dismay, an unorthodox one.

Silent Hill 1, 3, and 4 were great. And in all honesty, I love the 4th one, the least favorite in the series, according to the majority of the fanbase. It had the best plot, if you ask me, and from what it looks like, the plot is the backbone of the game.

Although that's not all, I also hate Silent Hill 2, the most cherished by the majority of the fanbase . . . I really don't see why so many people like it. The plot was "decent" at best, the puzzles were more annoying than challenging, and James is as boring as Henry.

I played Origins . . . not that great but that's what is to be expected, seeing as how it wasn't Team SILENT that made it.

And, I know it isn't even out yet, but I honestly think Silent Hill 5 is gonna suck in all ways. Look at the company, look at the shitty games (and one decent game) they made. And if that's not enough for you to be convinced, look up previews and articles on the game. Looks a little too much like Silent Hills 2 and 3, right? Yup, it's unoriginal too.

All the enemies are either re-hashes of previous enemies, or something that came out of generic abstract art or just generic creepy thoughts.

Where are you, Team SILENT? Why did you guys decide not to work on your highly anticipated sequel? WHY?!

Not a lot of games have more Horror and Suspense than the Silent Hill series.

Keep in mind that horror and gore are two completely different things.

lolz

yeah, silent hill is one of my favorite series. like most people, sh2 is my favorite. it doesn't get much better than psychosexual imagery come to life to kill you. the amount of care that team silent put into the game is really evident through james' past and his psyche.

also, "they look like monsters to you?!". epic mindfuck.

although i really liked 3 (as well as 1), 2 takes the cake as far as the series goes. i think 2 was really the crowning point of silent hill's trademark horror - it doesn't rely on scare tactics; it just makes use of the incredible soundtrack (my favorite in a video game ever) and the atmosphere to make you feel uneasy. not scared, just... uneasy, so that when you finally are scared, it's much worse than it would be if you hadn't had the atmosphere.

yeah, and 4 sucked ass. :/ i've been playing through it, but i can barely bring myself to. i also haven't played 0rigins yet...

So true. I went to Wikipedia a few months ago and stumbled across the article about Silent Hill 2. My goodness, the amount of psychological elements and symbolisms they placed in the game is really amazing. Since SH 2 was the first and only Silent Hill game I've played (I mean, I started on 3 but I never had the courage to continue) I guess it's the reason as to why I find the game amazing.

I've played SH2, 3 and 4. I really liked the whole idea of 4, being trapped in the room instead of just running through Silent Hill as in the other games, but at times the script and voice acting could be truly horrendous. The best example I can think of is
Spoiler: just in case
when you find Cynthia dying and the whole room is absolutely COVERED with blood, and Henry walks up to her and says....'Are you okay?' in this terrible monotone, to which she replies, 'I feel like I'm dying.'
Also, when you have to replay the same sections except with the ghost of each victim following you got really irritating. At least you had a partner who could sort of hit enemies...even if it was only with a handbag...
