As the ambulance pulled away, Kylie wondered whether she should go to the hospital to help with the operation. She decided to call Dr. Miles and let him know about the Stigma operation he was probably going to have to perform. With a sigh, she dialed the number, remembering how scared he had been during the last operation.

"It's got a list of symptoms, and how to treat it. It even talks about the initial cause of the Stigma. It looks like he was trying to figure out how there came to be more than one kind, and what the cure is." She looked at him. "It says that Stigma could return after you kill it. Not in the same person, but somehow, it gets passed on to others. But there's no way to know how it spreads from person to person..." She thought about that for a moment. "It looks like it's returning, in new victims, Aviv."

Kylie knew how concerned Aviv was, and was thankful he was there with her. She had already known how dangerous this would be, but it didn't really sink in until just now. She held him close, hoping with all her being she wouldn't lose him. She also silently promised herself she wouldn't let anything happen to him.

Kylie ran as fast as she could, surrounded by darkness. The faster she tried to move, the slower she ran. She could feel her muscles turning to lead; even breathing took a lot of work. Kylie felt the cold darkness swallow her, and she collapsed...

Kylie's eyes opened to reveal that she was still on the airplane. Was that a... dream? What was I trying to run from? She felt Aviv take a deep breath; he was still asleep. He was so warm... She adjusted herself slightly and tried to go back to sleep.
