wasn't referred to as "Hickfeld" until AJ, as the clinic is now mysteriously named after him, and I thought this place had called him that even before AJ, despite him only being called "Director Hotti", or "that fake director!" in JFA. Also, they treat him like an actual doctor in AJ, but in JFA it is heavily implied he was a mental patient that just found the actual Hotti's jacket. I just don't get that guy. Can someone shed a little light on this?

Think about it -- JFA and AJ has Hotti/Hickfield in the same room as Phoenix. In T&T, we don't see the hospital room that Phoenix is in, apart from late at night. Ergo, 'Hotti' would have merely been asleep.

Same person, same clinic, different name. Hotti must have realized how controversial his name was, so he must have changed it. And from what I presume, he still owns the clinic though he's not really a real doctor...
And yes, I do remember they used the same background. I'm guessing the concept designers got a little lazy. Something I would do...

When the clinic gotten new management and was renamed, Hotti was still a patient there. Now that the clinic was no longer named Hotti, he decided to name himself Hickfield as he continued to pretend to be a real doctor.

That makes a LOT more sense... actually... and things do change.. especially after like 7+ years... (since we first saw him in JFA)

To my knowledge, "Hickfield" was completely new in AJ. He is always called "Hotti" in JFA. I seem to recall hearing that the name changed in the Japanese version as well, so it's not special to the localization (although the Japanese names for the clinic currently escape me).

It thoroughly disturbs me that they thought to update goddamn HICKFELD'S sprites, but not Phoenix's, Gumshoe's, or the Judge's.
