Ben and Trilo are of the same entity. Ben is the quiet, stuttering Stanley and Trilo is the brash, lewd, loud-mouthed jerk. However, Ben will never talk unless he has Trilo. When Ben has Trilo, Ben's true side shows; that being the brash, lewd, loud-mouthed jerk that is Trilo. After all, if you look closely you can see Ben's lips moving when Trilo talks.
That's why Trilo said he was there on the night of the murder; Ben was using him as a medium to convey what he saw. Trilo never saw anything. Ben saw something. Ben used Trilo to speak for him.

I mostly agree with you except that they said that Trilo was waiting to propose to Regina, and that's when the ring was stolen. Ben never would have been able to propose to her by himself, therefore he wouldn't have had the ring out for it to be stolen. Thus the contradiction :/
