Lots of gaming sites and blogs are talking about Captivate '08 now that we're free to do so, and you can probably get more comprehensive coverage from them. But only on Court Records can you get the story from Croik, tiniest attendant!

My Las Vegas Adventure

For those only interested in the Ace Attorney side of things, I'm sorry to say they weren't able to give me any news on Kenji or a potential GS5. The only thing I was able to work out of Sven was: "You're going to love what Matsukawa is working on."

But what IS Matsukawa working on!? Maybe we'll find out at E3...

Wow, those pictures are amazing! That hotel was just...wow. Although I do agree that that Jacuzzi looks a little worrying :P
It's a shame we didn't get any GS5 info, but you can't have everything I guess.
How much money must all of that have cost? It's really great that you got to go. It looks like it was a great experience. :)

That's so awesome! You're so lucky you got to go to that ~

I've never really played any Capcom games outside of the Ace Attorney series and ONE Mega Man game (ZX) but... I don't know, I really kind of appreciate them more after hearing about Captivate.

Good move, Capcom. Now if only I had money.

Wow. I wwas really impressed by the report. The jacuzzi sort of reminded me of an OOT-esque Hyrule Castle courtyard. Anyway, was Ben the only voice actor you met? Because I would so want to hear about Janet Hsu as well. So, goos job, Croik!

The only thing that bothered me was your stance on the Wii I personally don't think graphics matter. But I'll overlook that.

That Jacuzzi/infinity pool looked amazing. That's some free trip.
I'm glad to know those rumours I never heard about GS5 being cancelled are false, more more glad about living in the free west! No sprite archives in Japan? It's just lucky we are more liberal or many avatars/sigs/smileys/OCs simply wouldn't exist. When you put it in that perspective, we really are lucky to have this site. Thanks Croik.
Now, I'm back to waiting for T&T to come out in Europe. Auf Wiedersehen and all that jazz.

I REALLY WANT TO KNOW! I'll probably have to wait till 2012 to get it, but still. Can't wait for more [leaked] news as and when.

Damn, that's pretty nuts how the suits knew of you at the event. They are tracking your every move <.< >.>~!

The only thing Captivate 08 related I saw was the RE5 trailer Kotaku.com posted up a couple days beforehand, was freakkkky, but COOOLLL~ It's awesome that you and the guys got to play/see some games and work in progress demos before everybody else.

On an unrelated note, I'd probably be crazy enough to jump in that hotel jaccuzi myself..

Too bad for no Ace Attorney news (but infinite cheers on getting the Chinese forums outta the way), and Street Fighter is loooooooove. I can't wait for RE5, either. <3

Wow, sounds like an awesome trip. ^_^

I've never actually been to the Palms myself (I've been to Las Vegas several times and even got married there. XD), the suite looked awesome! I would have definitely jumped into that jacuzzi. XD

Who were the girls from G4? I'm totally curious. :edgy:

Too bad there wasn't much for GK or GS5 news but... it still sounded like it was quite the experience. ^_^

Hmm, that also explains why Japanese sprite sites are almost non-existent... well I'm glad that some American companies think differently, that's for sure.

Glad you guys were able to get something out of my report. It's too bad there wasn't more Ace Attorney news to be had, but I figured that would be the case. And I still had a blast because it opened me up to some Capcom games I might not have looked at closely before.

I forgot to mention in my report, I also got to meet David Crislip, voice of Payne! But I didn't get an objection from him :hotti:

Wow, Croik got to meet Ben Judd! COOL! Did you get any pictures of him?

Sounds like Croik had fun at Capcom's fancy place. Glad to hear RE5 will be like RE4. I wasn't a fan of the series but RE4 was enjoyable and contained more action. Is it true it's not coming out for the Wii?

And GS5 hasn't been cancelled. YAY! :edgy:

It didn't come up, but I would think not. I just don't think the Wii could handle the kind of game we were shown.

I didn't really get into RE until the 4th game too (I didn't like feeling so helpless in the earlier games, and Leon being smoking hot didn't hurt :hotti: ), so I'm thrilled they're keeping with that style for RE5. Chris kicks a ton of ass.

Yo.

And for the record, I can completely verify Croik's account of our early Street Fighter and ResiEvil days. I remember when she rented Resi 2...I don't think she ever got to the police station where the majority of the game takes place. On the SF side of things, beyond Honda's HHS, I also recall quite a bit of Sonic Booming on my end of things, and a lot of Dhalsim use by Croik. Damn stretchy attacks... :edgeworth:

For the rest of the game side of things, it's nice to see that most of Capcom's big projects are coming along well. I'm interested in seeing how Bionic Commando is received, being a modern remake of a very old franchise. I think we've come long enough ahead in the industry to be able to revisit some of those old properties. Being a Nintendo fan, I hope that strategy works out because there are quite a few titles in Ninty's catalog that could see some interesting revivals *coughstartropicscough*. I am a bit disappointed by the general lack of Nintendo support. Apparently Capcom has a lot of faith in Spyborgs, but when you can look on the other side and see big guns like Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Bionic Commando and then look at Spyborgs and We Love Golf...it's underwhelming, to say the least.

The wording of Sven's statement intrigues me. "You're going to love what Matsukawa is working on." I don't know, I just get the vibe that this is some new project, rather than just a GS5. After the apparently-lukewarm reception that 4 got in Japan, I kinda feel like they might be pausing to take the time on some side-projects related to the original trilogy. Either that or it's a completely new IP. Time will tell, I guess, and I'll hope that Capcom has something new for E3 beyond reprising what they showed last week.

All in all it sounds like it was a wonderful time. Hope you had fun on the giant rotating bed.

Y-you met Ben Judd. D: Lucky! And a top secret podcast? This I have to hear....

I'm glad the American branch of Capcom seems so tolerant of sites like these, but I have to wonder if the situation would be any different if things like the art books and CDs were actually being sold in North America (instead of having to rely on PlayAsia to obtain them).

Thank you for sharing this information with us, Croik! I'm glad you had such a great time.

I look forward to listening to it, the Matsukawa one was a total riot. (And informative, considering CR may have been the crux to make some one's career at Capcom)

Anyways, I'm really glad you got to go Croik. Your report was much better then anything I could've written. Not to mention the only franchise Capcom has that I'm interested in are Ace Attorney, (if we wanna stretch I'm a 'very' casual fan of Megaman and I'd like to try Zack and Wiki, but that ends it). And judging by the suit's reactions, this really was your trip.

I honestly thought I'd be the only one ragging on Spyborgs, because everyone else at the event seemed to like it. Guess you shouldn't underestimate forumers. :eh?: I hope Sven's not toooo mad at me for fanning the flames.

I think the game's cartoon-style humor will push it a long way with some fans (especially the Adult Swim crowd) but if they're going to blame "development is much too early for it to look great" for the underwhelming graphics, maybe they should have just waited a bit before showing off the gameplay. The trailer by itself was funny and gave me a much better impression of the game. :yuusaku:

I'm glad you had a great time! It was the last great thing I am able to do for you guys.

PS For the record, I do weekly community reports which goes out to most of the company, including Japan. That's probably why most of them knew of you and your site already (From my reports), especially the time I reported on the "Thank You Lost" incident. ^_^v

The report was funny. Nay hysterical. I've never been a Capcom fan (AA and Megaman Battle Network are about it) but that event sounded awesome. I myself could never get in that Jacuzi, reminds me too much of Gaia Falls.
I'm not dissapointed with the lack of news of GS5, I enjoyed the stories.

If they had an AA concert in the US I would be saving up the money to fly out there and see it! That was a really cool report to read - the hotel looks lush, and wow, you got to eat tons of nice food for free :D Not to mention rubbing shoulders with the Capcom bigwigs! That's so ace, getting to meet Ben Judd - he sounds really nice too. To think so many of the top suits have heard of this place - that's pretty incredible. If Lost sends out community reports every week does that mean all those suits have heard of gyakusheets too? That'd be kinda scary - I'm lucky I haven't been shut down yet either :eh?:

Croik mentioned you were planning on starting an internet company in China. Are you doing web design, or web hosting, or something else entirely? And, if you don't mind my asking, what was the appeal of starting your own company? In any case, best wishes in your career path.

Pft, a ban? Oh, no no no, we've got a rubber room and a size 15 straitjacket set aside for you.

Aww, I'm glad you had an Ace Time (seriously, I'm hilarious). Sounds like you deserved a knees up for your hard work on CR.
(and that jacuzzi is terrifying)

Croik mentioned you were planning on starting an internet company in China. Are you doing web design, or web hosting, or something else entirely? And, if you don't mind my asking, what was the appeal of starting your own company? In any case, best wishes in your career path.

I'm starting a web 2.0 related company in China, completely unrelated to gaming. I've been in gaming for about 9 years totally in my professional life (Broken up by stints in the entertainment industry, but that's another story), so it's probably time to try something new. Whether or not this succeeds, I may get back into gaming (As a carreer. I'm not going to stop playing games.) eventually, but it all depends.

Gaming has definitely been good to me though. Even though I've spend a lot of money on this career, I've also saved a lot, from many perks. =D

O_o They learned about that? What was their reaction?

They were surprised, but they loved it. Also, very scared of the Internet people at the same time.

9 years? I'm impressed, your posts are quite zany. And that's something I'd associate with someone just settling in and loving their job.

Hey, don't complain. You're getting the room across from Elvis and next to Mr. Rogers and Oprah's reserved room.
