Because SOMEONE needs to be a black sheep and post about American produced comic books and American manga. I'd post about European stuff but unless you want to talk about Journal by Fabrice Neaud, we ain't gonna talk much.

Personally, I highly recommend Runaways, but that's because it's awesome. Other than that, well... the rest you may not like unless you're already comic fans.

Yes, Civil War sucked. I know.

I love American comic books. I'm a huge Marvel whore myself. I keep eyeing Runaways, but my problem is I'm OCD with issues. I'd have to find issue #1 and start from there. I can't bring myself to read TPB, unless it's a series I want to read but cringe at. Like X-Men Evolution. The show I liked, but the comic was basically a train wreck. I bought the TBP's so I could be over and done with it.

I really like Astonishing X-Men. It's the first "new" series I've liked in a very, very long time from the X-Men line. Colossus: Bloodlines was a good mini-series.

Strangers in Paradise is a good one, too, though it's not a Marvel title. And of course Transmet. Gotta love me some Spider Jerusalem.

Preacher, Transmet, and Sandman are my favorite Western comics. I'm waiting for Y: The Last Man to finish its run (or is it done already?) so I can read the boring parts (from issue 44 onward) all in one go.

There's a few other warren ellis comics I've been half-following, like Desolation Jones and whatnot.

I'm not sure who writes nextwave but that's not bad. speaking of nextwave:

Not really into superhero comics, but I love the heroes themselves.

Then there's Maus, Ice Haven, etc that are "graphic literature".

And Bone. Bone is rad.

Actually, Warren Ellis wrote Nextwave.

Warren Ellis = Awesome. In any form. Which is why I'm going to be picking up Doktor Sleepless.

And someone ELSE liked Bloodlines? I thought I was the only one!

Well, I'm a goob for Colossus, so I was doomed from the get-go. It was a VERY interesting way to show all of his character past, though. And it tied in very well with the Astonishing X-Men storyline. It's nice to see Marvel take a successful stab at multi-series continuity for once.

I actually don't read any western comics. But I know that there are some that I should.

That's okay. I've pretty much given up on eastern comics. I think I'm getting jaded in my old age. Larry

I don't read Astonishing. Wolverine's in it. I tend to not support anything Marvel does that has Wolverine in it.

Except if it's Wolverine Baboons in a huge splash page.

Personally, I'll go ahead and say Brubaker is amazing as a monthly writer... and Matt Fraction is also pretty good. So long as BMB gets the fuck out, I'm happy.

And Judd "I make gay characters all the time" Winick has something good going with Green Arrow.

Now see, I was the exact same way, Attorney Hatman. I hate Wolverine with a white-hot burning passion that can only be compared to my hatred of the concept of seme/uke. The very words send my vision into infared mode.

But Astonishing.. did him very well. I picked it up if for nothing else, to see Wolverine reverted to his personality as a child in the late 1800's. Also, it was nice to see Kitty not act like a pussy.

No pun intended.

And if you want a good splash page, here's the cover that got me to pick up Astonishing in the first place:

The Crow is one that is a must read. If you're a fan of the movie, the comic book is ten times better. If you don't like the movie, the comic book is still worthy of being on yoru shelf.

As a child I used to collect comic books but not anymore. I always use collect the weird kinds of comics based on television shows like Pinky and the Brain. I never really liked the stereotype superheroes like Superman.

Today, I only have three comics and the all of them are rare Earthworm Jim comics from the mid-90s. Sal

I know Astonishing is Whedon, and it's mainly because of him that the book is good. Hell, I thought he would have gotten crucified the second he was named as next in line for Runaways. Except we're 2 issues in and, to paraphrase Molly : "I AM BEING AWESOMED BY HIM!"

I also happen to hate that concept very very fucking much. Except I don't hate Wolverine as much. I just don't buy anything that's in him unless it happens to be a guest appearance in a series I'm doing (Like She-Hulk - Dan Slott's writing is made for this book).

Nextwave #11 is king of splash pages.

The only comic books that really interest me are Batman, Udon's Street Fighter and the Sonic comics (when they didn't suck).

I've never got into manga though. Eh?

I remember reading those, when they are all in some resistance group and all that good stuff.

I wonder why SEGA gave up on them? Lana

Epic sad face, man. Though honestly I'll probbaly stop picking up Astonishing after Whedon drops it. As much as I despise the end of Buffy (I refuse to acknowledge the show past season five), I DO like what he's done with the Marvel universe.

I also remember those comics from I was a kid. I remember hearing that the comics weren't heading in a direction that Sega didn't plan on going and decided to cut it before it reached out that point. Personally, I wish they would use that Sonic storyline for one of the next games. Aiga

Yep.

And for the record, I hated Buffy.

And depending on who gets Astonishing, I'd hold off on dropping it. Of course, if it's Clairemont, Bendis, Brubaker (I heart the guy, but two X-books would be too much for him, and he's already polarized much of the fanbase with Uncanny) or Fraction (Same as Baker... except less X-books more than his writing wouldn't fit), feel free to drop it.

I just wish there was something at DC for me other than Blue Beetle (it got better once Giffen got off the title. Nice writer, but he can't write Blue Beetle for shit) and Green Arrow. Maybe if it wasn't stuck in the whole Crisis thing that happened two years ago which I didn't follow because nobody I gave a shit about did anything important?

I agree. There were some much more interesting characters than the current ones. I mean, Amy and Cream were a joke compared to Princess Sally and Rotor the Walrus. OMG! I am in my fangirl mode. Sorry. Oops

That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Sonic's old-school cast were much better than the current one.
They were more focused on the story/humor instead of trying to be cheesy (seriously, nothing can accidentally be that cheesy).

the only one I got into really was V for Vendetta because of the absolutely amazing movie. I might get into captain America because I always thought he was cool but comics all seem so short and expensive. the only comic I actually own is a Racer X one since I love speed racer and could not resist buying it at half price books.
