IT'S DALL-LEE-YA.

I reference the movie "Black Dahlia", for an example.

I'm willing to accept both if some people use three syllables. I've never heard it that way myself, but yeah.

That's a matter of opinion, and that's as far as I'm going to take this.

But I just realized that I put the stress on the wrong syllable. It should be "OR-lee", not "or-LEE".

I think quite a few of the names are wrong. For examples...

Spoiler:
Frank Sahwit is "Frank Saw It," as in he "saw it."
Trilo Quist is "Tril·o·quist," since he's a ventriloquist.
Jean Armstrong is "JON Arm-strong." Jean is the French spelling of "Jon." It is NOT "Jeen."

@Bendilin: Even though most of the names are obvious puns, they are not pronounced the same. They don't have to be the exact same to still be puns.

And 'Jean' can be pronounced a variety of ways. The English pronunciation is "JEEN" (though it's more popular as a girl's name... Jean refers to himself as a girl several times, so it's a possibility) or it can simply be treated as an alternate spelling of 'John'. The French pronunciation is actually "ZHAHN" (the zh makes a certain sound that actually doesn't sound much like the letter z... it's sort of hard to explain to people who aren't familiar with French phonetics).

Jean is pretending to be French, so it's likely that he refers to himself as 'Zhahn', but Armstrong is an English surname, so he might also be called one of his English names.

Uh, hi. Just dropping in, but I'm pretty sure Machi's pronounced "mah-kee." Besides the whole his-Japanese-name-is-Maki thing, the judge at one point during the trial misremembers his name as "marquis." Which is pronounced "mahr-kee." Just... just saying.

The Godot thing is true. No matter what you're sopossed to get rid of the T, it's from a french play Waiting for Godot.
And Luke Atmey is a pun. He used it a few times XD

Just my 2 cents:

Regina is reh-JEE-nuh. That's the only way I've ever heard it. It's a Latin word, meaning, roughly, "queen". I know 2 Reginas, and they both say it that way. Nobody's ever called them reh-JY-nuh.

I always thought Dahlia was DOLL-yuh. My mom's friend grows dahlias, like, professionally or something, and she says it that way. But whatevs.

I agree, Jean should be zhahn. Jean is TRYING to be French, so it's only natural that his name would be said the French way. But jeen sounds fine, too! ^_^

I thought Victor was VICK-tor. But that's brobably just me! ^_^ I know a Victor, he's pronounced VICK-tor!

Bumping <3

Also, before I found this thread, I always said it "Klay-vee-err" which is so Americanized I'm ashamed of myself u_u I'm usually really good at that sort of thing...but then, I study French, not German.

Now I'm forcing myself to think "Klah-feer" instead and it's like when I changed my handwriting...unbelievably frustrating xD I'll get it eventually, though.

(I also pronounce Kristoph with the throaty French 'r' but...yeah. xD That's close enough.)

I've always pronounced Lamiroir like la miroir in french, accenting the last syllable. like, la mee-RAWR.

Isn't Guy pronounced "gee"? I'm pretty sure it's a French name. Are there people named Guy, english pronounciation?

I say DAH-lee-ah. You know, like dollie-ah.

Guy is both a French and an English name. Since Mr Eldoon doesn't seem to be of French descent, it's safe to assume that he pronounces his name the English way.

...I just got the Luke Atmey/"Look at me" pun because of this... probably because I've been saying "At-may."
Also, I looked up "Gramarye" the other day for the purpose of finding out its pronunciation, and it's apparently GRAM-uh-ree.

Lovely list!

The following are all quotes of Sklarvv

Quote:
Lana Skye- "LAH-nah sky"

Is that 'LAH' as in 'loss' or as in 'lay'? I've always always always pronounced it 'lay'. And I AM the Lana authority. Jk, jk. But, seriously. I could be wrong. But I don't think so. :edgeworth: :godot:

Quote:
Winston Payne- "WINST-in pain"

I've always pronounced it 'Wins-tun'. I don't think it really matters though. At this point, I's just pointin' out differences. Prolly the accents.

Quote:
Manfred von Karma- "MAN-fred fonn CAR-muh"
Franziska von Karma- "fran-ZIS-kuh fonn CAR-muh"

I'm pretty sure I'm wrong, but I always say 'von' instead of 'fon'. I'm not into German that much, so I'm prolly in the wrong on this one.

Quote:
Godot- "go-DOH"

Teehee, this one I KNOW I'm wrong, but I always pronounce the 't'. I just think it sounds better.

Quote:
Damon Gant- "DAY-min gant"

Again, I say 'day-mun'.

Quote:
Ini Miney- "EE-nee MINE-ee"
Mimi Miney- "MEE-mee MINE-ee"

I've always said 'meen-ie'. Like the insult. "YOU MEANY-PANTS!"

Quote:
Shelly de Killer- "SHELL-ee deh KILL-er"

I say 'day' instead of 'deh'. That's probably because of my Spanish-ness. But, somehow, I don't think Shelley is Spanish, lol.

Again, these aren't corrections, I'm just remarking on how we say things differently. :godot: Except the Lana thing. Lol.

If Furio Tigre and Bruto Cadaverini are supposed to be Italian names, they can't be pronounced
"FYUR-ee-oh TEE-gray" or "BREW-toe kuh-DAH-ver-EE-nee". Imo (I'm Italian :P) the right pronunciation is more or less "FOOR-ee-oh TEE-greh" and "BROO-taw kuh-DAh-ver-EE-nee".
