I had some Japanese episodes that JingWu sent me back in 2006 and then, I picked up Volume 1 for 5 bucks at Best Buy in October 2007 for the hell of it. I was really curious to hear the English dub, because I heard that Wendee Lee was doing the voice of the title character. Personally, I prefer the English dub over the Japanese version. Crispin Freeman, Johnny Yong Bosch, Wendee Lee, Kari Walgreen, Michelle Ruff, and Stephanie Sheh all do a great job with their roles. That being said, I don't think I'll buy the other English DVDs unless I see them cheap and I got money to burn.
I love the hyperactive caffeinated animation style; it looks like the animators put some serious effort into it, unlike some other anime shows of this generation. Some of the music is a guilty pleasure.
I don't care much for the fanservice, the fanBASE, Haruhi grabbing Mikuru's boobs all the fucking time and some the girly stuff, though. I know it's supposed to be a parody of ecchi ( or maybe IT IS ecchi, I really don't fucking know) but that's just obnoxious and uncreative.

Well anyhow it seems to be their own original story now whilst trying to keep the basic storyline. People are saying it's the "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" storyline from the novels though...

However, it doesn't have that "absolutely random" quality that the fans seem to love. I wouldn't say it's completely serious but it's definitely more serious than the original. And it's not something you can show to a new viewer and get them hooked. They'd have to watch the first season. Granted, they'll probably throw in bits from other books like they did in the first series, but...
I think it's best they just write a new story or use another book.

Just curious, but how many of you know what Haruhi meant when she asked Kyon: "Have we ever met before?" I'm pretty sure there's no explanation in the anime...
...wait, is that line even in the anime? (should be right after Kyon asks her about changing her hairstyle every day.)
