Then we might get a new detective... That would be quite exciting, because I didnt find Ema to be a good detective, definitely not up to the awesome standards that Gumshoe set. And if, Ema was a forensic scientist, then she could still be extremely useful in the game.

lol. I think he would be hard to deal with because of all the mistakes me makes. He definitely would be an interesting and lovable character, but probably frustrating to deal with.

Agreed. All through GS4, I was praying for Edgey to show up. I wanted to see Ema start fangirling over him. (And of course, I wanted to see his reaction.) Once a fangirl, always a fangirl.

If Ema was a scientist, she would be happy with her job, but she would still have to be doing it incorrectly in order for the game to work. Wouldn't that be kind of sad? If she became the scientist she always wanted to be, but she *still* couldn't catch the right criminals? The only way for her to be really happy is if she became a scientist but didn't work on the cases Apollo took, but in that scenario, she wouldn't then be important to the gameplay and we might not see her again :(

Gumshoe was supposed to be a dope, and we were supposed to believe in Phoenix's sleuthing abilities. But Ema... she's just pathetic. The sympathy generated for her is a different brand from Gumshoe's charm; as you can see here, there are people who would rather not see her suffer like this.
It's simply a matter of limited writing investment. Why can't Ema serve the same purpose as Gumshoe without being Gumshoe, that is, a clue-provider for the player? Certainly, there is a possibility in if the friendship aspect were worked up between Ema and Apollo and Trucy: it could make sense for her to be competent at finding clues and then sharing them with her favored defense attorney. Because she's stuck investigating a crime scene and is low on the precinct food chain, she doesn't have the same access to information that a freelance attorney like Apollo does, thus she leaves it up to them to find the truth.
So if she hates her job, she could, instead of sucking at it, just subvert it.

I didnt think the game had that much of a pessimistic tone, but yes she was pessimistic and I guess I just miss Gumshoe a little. She wasnt the detective I was expecting that much.

I mean, I liked 1-5 Ema. The change in character between games did not sit well with me.
