Ok....most criminals are too stupid to know what Miranda actually means....

Besides, America isn't hard to fix. We get out of Iraq, thus the trillions we spend goes back into the economy and helps the dollar regain some ground, maybe to between 77 and 88 cents, which in turn makes oil more affordable, thus lowering the price of gas.

Whew.

Using our own reserves is a legal nightmare. But, that's only a temporary fix.

We need to get rid of the oil speculators. They're the ones driving the price up.

:spit: what?!

I guess it really sucks to be a defense attorney in japan. Every trial you feel like Tom Cruise doing "Mission Impossible"

Mm, seriously. It's because of the tactics that the police use. They can extract confessions even from innocent people, and those confessions are considered even more valuable in court than hard evidence.

I wonder, though, if that ultra-high rate will change once the jury laws are instated next year? Or, who knows, maybe it'll be even worse... :sadshoe:

Well, Trials in America are far more even than in Japan. They're like games or theatre. With juries, the Attorney's personality is just as important as the Law. If that makes sense.

I was thinking of going into law way before Phoenix Wright came out. It's definitely made me want to be a defense attorney more, but I don't think going into law just because of the video game is such a good idea... Have you tried watching court dramas? They may give you more of a look at what being a real attorney is about.

Not a bother. I enjoy it. Law School was fun-ish. The Bar Exam was 3 days of Hell on Earth. But, once you pass and get your license and badge, you feel really good. I spent my first year as a Defense Attorney for an Oil company in Houston. I've been a Prosecutor ever since.

Yeah, but Law and Order is about prosecutors and you don't really see how the defense prepares for the case. If I remember correctly, ProsecutorX is still deciding on whether to be a Defense Attorney or Prosecutor. What I mean by "Court Drama" is one of the shows they have on truTV that shows both sides having fair arguemets and not some over-popularized show about Prosecutors only.

Well, I'm in the same league as you. I want to go into law, but I'm still 16 years old and have a good two years to think about it. Then I've got another four years of normal college before I can even think about going to law school. I'm certain that I want to be a defense attorney now, but I could always change my mind. My word of advice, make sure you have a degree in something related to law such as History or Psychology before you go to law school.

I want to be a defense attorney because I want to help people who can't face the law alone. I know it sounds idealist, but there's my reason.

I'm pretty well suited to the job, I believe. But I am nervous at the same time about what this future holds for me.

Yeah I guess so, I'm 17 and I'm going to study law at college before I take the course at university

And yeah I am still torn between which side to take, although I am leaning more towards the prosecution side as it has better pay as I've seen on the american salaries.

Same here. I want to help the innocent recieve they're rightful verdict. However, an attorney must know which cases to take and when to draw the line and stop when the client is obviously guilty. If a person is definitely guilty, then I say don't take the case and have them recieve a state-appointed attorney.

I had the idea of making a little section on the forums or if not, just take each others msn or IM details as we can then discuss and chat with each other about this more and what we want to do in the career. etc

But you will probably be a state assigned attorney at first, then I imagine you build your reputation from there.

That is my plan and outlook exactly! I don't want to defend the guilty against their rightful punishment, I want to protect the innocent from having their lives destroyed because of things they didn't do.

And I refuse to take the case of a clearly guilty client.

You could do that, but my YIM only works half the time and it's all I got. If you're serious about this, then you oughtta send private messages to all the people involved and we could circulate the information. :D But yeah, I'd imagine that you would start out as a state assigned attorney unless you score high on the Bar Exams.

before i worry about the bar, i want to concern myself with the LSATs first. how hellish are those? i'm an entering first-year at my university and the only reason i signed up for Phi Alpha Delta was beause they said something about practice LSATs to get into law school. so uh...yeah. granted, they're probably mega easier than the bar itself, but again, how hellish are they?

Take the practice tests and find out. The only reason I should be able to ace 98% of the JLPT4 is because I study for practice tests. You should have a much easier time with the LSAT. I would. You're not studying an unfamiliar language and it's not consuming 80% of your study time. The worst time you're going to have is retaining a bunch of terms, memorizing very important(like...critical) cases that forged some of the brutal laws we have today...There's also the matter of thinking logically and handling problems that don't exist. That last one is a killer. :yuusaku:

Most Defense Attorney's spend a few years as a Prosecutor first. Either with the District Attorney or the State Attorney General.

But about spending time as a prosecutor... What if I don't want to do that? Could my career still flourish if I started out as a state-appointed defense attorney?

Sorry if I'm interrupting anything but I just wanted to state my opinion:

I find the law dreadfully boring, uninteresting, and difficult. However, I have always been a forensics fan (especially post-mortem examinations) and science in general, so Ema definitely got my support there and inspired me a bit.

Accusing and defending are not my thing. Investigating and using science to uncover the truth is much preferred.

Know any forensic people, Tails? (Well..I would assume so.)
