It's kind of refreshing though, how Meyer strayed from the typical 'Dracula' and added her own flare to vampires. Something else, try to read The Host by Stephenie Meyer. It's her first published Adult novel, and though she still overuses adjectives, it's surprisingly good. Far better than the Twilight series, in my opinion. It has a wide range of characters and the book is surprisingly philosophical in some points. It starts off slow but when the book picks up, it really picks up.

But The Host is better than Twilight in so many ways. I loved it. It's so different from Twilight. Even if you hated Twilight, you should still pick it up! (lol, I'm starting to sound like an advertiser or something >_<)

*Shrug* I tried, I wasn't into it. I dislike Stephanie Meyer's style for writing to begin with. Its not just Twilight, I don't think she is a good story teller.

I like the Darren Shan vampires a ton, and Ann Rice's novels, and, of course, JK! I also love Stephen King and R.L Stine. I love the LOTR saga! :3 Any fiction or Non-fiction book on the Holocaust or WW II. Anything about Egypt.
And thank you. ^-^ I love Tinker/Tinker Bell. I think she is a wonderful artist. Its a shame she doesn't illustrate many hentai games. ;^; She has only done 4-5, I think.

True, but then again, if you were an aspiring writer and you were given an opportunity such as that, it would be a waste to let it go. Yes, she should have just written a different book concerning a different genre and tried to make it the best she could, but given that situation, I don't think better judgment is the first thing you think about. And as for the critics, I remember most of them saying that her writing style was the main flaw in the books. It's hard to prove my points since I feel as if you didn't read the books all throughout, but the physical attraction was somehow explained as a predatorial development. Seeing as how vampires were made to feed on human blood, they were designed to attract their prey through their looks, their smell, and even their voice. And yet, that wasn't what made Bella Swan fall for Edward. At first, she was curious. No, it wasn't love at first sight and though his looks were captivating, that didn't make Bella immediately want to spend her life with him. It was his actions and the reasoning behind it. It was how, even though Bella's blood was so tempting, he refused to corner her and prey on her. It was how Edward saved her once, twice, an innumerable number of times with questionable motive. It was how Edward seemed to go to such extremes to keep her safe, and yet at the same time, be the number one cause of danger to her. Those were the things that made Bella fall in love with him. How should I explain this... Forks, in the book, is a town with a well-knit community. Everyone knows everyone. If you place something new in said town, the attention immediately goes to that variable. Crude, but the only real reason as to why people pay so much attention to her is because of her novelty. I see that as just an excuse. No matter where you go, no matter what you do, if your in a new High School, in a new town, your not going to be treated like OMFG O__O WHO IS THAT WONDERFUL PERSON!?!?! She is treated like that no matter WHAT. The part where the rather nerdy kid talks to Bella, everyone around just starts to listen and be amazed. Even the teachers love her. BIG MARY SUE. I have read the book,thank you. What does it matter if he saved her, or doesn't drink from her. Its still a romance based off of looks. EVERYTHING_BELLA_SAYS_ABOUT_HIM_IS_BASED_OFF_OF_HIS_LOOKS. He is compared to being a god, a statue, an archangel. Yeah, he kept her safe, but, it seems to me, that Bella has this obsession with Beautiful people. =/ I have yet to hear of a relationship like that that has ended up healthy. It is not right, nor normal, for Edward to watch her sleep, for months on end. I read a break down of the book. If the attraction was actual love, and not obsession over looks, there would not be 165+ references to Edwards beauty. That is just a tad bit sad, and over done. We don't need to know about how beautiful he is 24/7. Its just bland.
And, if it was actual love, Bella wouldn't be so pushy to become a vampire so they could be together 'omfg forever.'

If I didn't like it, I didn't like it. I found it slightly bland. I just didn't like it, and, I don't like Meyer's writing style.

The Host is the latest novel by Stephanie Meyer (known as the author of Twilight) I finished reading it about a week ago, and man was it good. I liked it better than Twilight!
The genre is kind of like a hybrid of romance and science fiction. Unusual, no?
The story is somewhat in the future. A few years before the beginning of the novel, alien beings called "souls" invaded the Earth. They live by taking over the body and supressing the mind of a different species. They started taking over the bodies of humans to try and save their corrupt society. The story begins when an injured, still-human girl is captured. A soul called "Wanderer" is inserted into her body. Wanderer realizes something soon after taking control of the body: for the first time, the host's mind is resisting. The girl, Melanie, keeps her own secrets and can even speak to Wanderer within their mind.
Wanderer lives her life regardless of her host's resistance. But she starts to have dreams of a boyfriend and a little brother that she'd never met but eventually begins to love. When they discover a way, Wanderer and Melanie work together to try to find them.
That's just the premise, the beginning. It's REALLY good and I highly reccommend it.

Meyer is a untalented author. I heard how 'amazing' and 'original' the series was. So, I picked up Twilight at the library. I should have known it was going to be bad just from looking at the cover. Two paled hands holding a bright red apple? Cliche much?

Typically your not supposed to want to kill the two main characters do you? I hated this book. It was insanely overrated. Cliche plot, and Mary Sue main characters.
I think I love you.
To anyone who says all YA work is cliché, read David Levithan and Rachel Cohn's books (seperate and together.)

Edward is far from perfect. The scenes with him suffering and "in torment" grow rather tiresome and boring. Get over it. If you want Bella so badly, just turn her into a vampire already. I don't see why fangirls obsess over him like he's so amazing. He's truly not.
"Oh Bella, you are the one for me, my darling. You are perfect, amazing, and beautiful. Come to me, my darling, let me kiss upon your lips;" is what Edward's trying to say. He seriously disgusts me sometimes, kissing her everywhere skin is.
In the second book, I nearly jumped for joy when he left Bella, but I can't say that Jacob grew on me. In New Moon, she turns into a selfish young woman who needs Edward to live and to supply her every basic need. I don't exactly care for the teen angst in this sequel, as Bella is undoubtedly the weakest character in the story. The parts with the werewolves was definitely lacking something. In the middle, the story drags on and on.
"Oh Edward, how can I possibly live without you? I will die if you don't return to me;" was initially Bella's message to the readers.
I started the third book, Eclipse, as well, but stopped after the first few chapters.
I'm finished now. =) I apologize to all you Twilighters!

I think they're pretty good, but they ain't no Harry Potter. They can get pretty repetitive and corny at times, but it really isn't that bad.

Most movies need a plot, of which, Twilight does not have. It just wanders on abusive, obsessive relasonships, and never gets to something good. Especially TWILIGHT, the worse of the three. It just rambles on for 500 pages on Edward's beauty.
So, I can pretty much see the movie will be a big floppy flop among critics.

I never said that they were in the same universe, as you've put it. If you can provide some reason as to why you compared the two as if I said that, it would be great. They can both still be bad, though. Unless that is completely impossible.

I loved the first three books, but I really felt that as she expanded them, the books weren't as interesting (With the 4th one being an exception, I found that one interesting). When I was reading the 7th book, I realized that I hardly remembered anything from the 6th book. I don't even have the urge to re-read the 5th-7th books, while I would probably re-read the 1st-4th books, even though I've read them multiple times. Everyone has a different perspective, though.
As for the Twilight series, I read them anyways. Whenever I know people who want to read them, I warn them that the writing style isn't that great (Mostly because I have a lot of friends who actually care about how well a book is written). Occasionally, I have some friends who honestly don't care how well an author writes (It breaks my heart).

I also dislike the rabid fangirls that Stephenie Meyer attracts. God. Shit, there was this one point in April or something, where there was Edward Cullen 'graffiti' on the floor and such. The hell? Those stupid girls didn't have half a mind to even use proper spray paint. They used sunscreen and hairspray. WTF.
Anyways, I think sometime I will finish New Moon. I dunno, I have a lot of books I want to finish. 8D

Ok, at first my cousin was obsessing over it and telling me it was a romance novel and how good it was. Now, I abhore romance (for the most part) and I'm more of a mystery/fantasy/scifi type of person (I'm reading a HUGE Sherlock Holmes book at the moment and I'm happy as a clam). I kept telling her I'd read it eventually, but I was kinda like, "...eh, whatever." Then, surprise! She freakin bought the book for my birthday. *facepalm* I acted happy of course, cuz she got me alot of stuff and all, but inside I was like, "shoooooot I have no choice now." Mmkay, so fast-forward to me finishing the book and here's what I think:
Surprisingly, when I read the book, it wasn't the kind that I'm like "OH GOD CAN I PUT IT DOWN NOW?!" Most of the time, I'd finish the situation Bella's in before I stop reading cuz it was a bit captivating for me. HOWEVER (pheer mah big text :K) first of all, like I said, I reaaally hate most romance books so this was no different: I kinda skimmed over the romantic parts (like, half the book O.o) because I found Bella's obsession over him really creepy. Does she do ANYTHING besides think of him? I'm hoping my parents never read this book. I mean, if they saw Bella's character, they'd probably think I have nothing else to do with my time except stare in awe at some random guy's beauty (though I do occasionally stare at Zack in Crisis Core but I believe that's different XD).
Also, at first I thought this was only me and my nitpicky self, but I found that she pretty much has a dictionary next to her while she's writing the book. Honestly, it makes me feel stupid since I know all the words she puts in there and it feels as if she's trying to teach little kids new vocabulary words by repeating them several times throughout the book.
I hated Bella's character overall and I found it really hard to relate to her, especially with everyone suddenly accepting her as a new girl and idolizing her =/ like previous posters said, she's a Mary Sue character and I hated how she was such a damsel in distress. I would shout at the book sometimes, saying things like, "SERIOUSLY, HOW STUPID ARE YOU?! DON'T YOU KNOW WHAT DANGER IS WHEN IT BITES YOU IN THE BUTT? I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH YOU OBSESS OVER THE DUDE, GET OVER IT!!!".... or something like that o.o

So, I read it. And hated it! Bella Swan (Hello, worst name pun I've come across so far!) and her adorable clumsiness ("I find myself ugly, oh, all the boys in class are madly in love with me but I don't notice. Whoops, I can't hold a racket without hitting my admirer in the face with it.") made me want to puke. Also, Edward and his perfect eyebrows annoyed me. It would've been okay if there'd been a couple pages describing his flawless looks - but come on! Everytime he shows up (which is like..all the time), we get to know his fresh minty breath better and learn about him struggling with his feelings. Oh, poor boy.
I read New Moon too. At first, I liked Jacob. Then all the werewolf angst started and I put the book away for about a week. There was no action in the action scenes and Bella's depressions annoyed me too. Creepy.
I have yet to read Eclipse. The Host doesn't really interest me but I guess I'll pick it up anyway. If the writing is even a tad better than Twilight! D:
