I'm replaying Ace Attourney, and there's something bothering me. Why did Edgeworth play along with Redd White's scheme to pin the blame for Mia's murder on Phoenix? Did White blackmail him into doing it or something?

Quite simple, really. At this stage, Edgeworth hadn't quite seen the light. He was so convinced and self-convicted into winning; that every defendant was the culprit and criminal. Because of this, White didn't need to lift a finger to sway his confidence.

Which is why, of course, upon witnessing that not everyone is guilty, he had that little period of conscience conflict throughout the rest of the game.

Edgeworth hated Phoenix at this point, and if Edgeworth hadn't played along, White had enough control to have him blackmailed to the moon and back. especially with all that apparent forged evidence.

Edgy was only concerned with getting a Guilty verdict. Little things like the possibility of innocence never bothered him back then. I think he said "The guilty will always lie to avoid being caught," which I guess was his way of blocking out any doubts.

That's true, not to mention...

All of the issues with DL-6. I'm not sure how White would have found out, but 'information collecting' is his business. It's entirely possible.

Even if White hadn't had any dirt on Edgeworth himself, I'm sure White had ties to Edgeworth's superiors. Besides, it's his job. You don't need someone blackmailing you to get you to do your job :/

Well, White might of gotten more info out of Grossburg than JUST about Misty. It's intierly possible he knew about Edgy's role in DL-6.

Could that imply that Edgey was on White's side because he was being blackmailed as well?

Well if Edgeworth was just doing his job, wouldn't he have at least asked why they suddenly changed defendents mid-trial on him? I know the current Edegworth would have.

He didn't *hate* him at that point. Phoenix was just an icky defense attorney getting in his way.

Though if Redd had enough influence at the time, he could have easily just gotten Edgeworth fired by his boss if he didn't comply. Edgeworth was just doing his job. He wouldn't have had to blackmail Edgeworth if he already has the Attorney General (or whoever it was) under his thumb.

White had influence over Edgey's superiors, and there was also what Edgeworth told Phoenix just before the trial. I can't remember the quote off hand but it was something along the lines of 'I have been told that whatever Mr White says is the truth.'

Edgeworth then didn't care about the truth, he just wanted his guilty verdict.

(This is hard to type, my cat is licking my fingers and stepping on my keyboard. >.<;)

I don't think so. Grossburg knew about DL-6 but

I don't thiink he or anyone else suspected Edgey of killing his dad until he tells you about the nightmare, which comes much after the Redd White case.

So it was probably just doing his job. Since Edgey was a "demon prosecutor" back then. ;o
