But, he's actually got a reason to be a jerk to Nick. And he at least has the decency to tailor his insult somewhat.

He supposedly LIKES Mia, and still talks down to her. Edgeworth calling her a bimbo isn't as annoying as his calling her 'kitten', because a) Edgeworth's the opposition, so talking down to her is to be expected, and b) he does it once, rather than using it instead of her name every time he addresses her.

Really? What's his reason? What did Phoenix ever do to him?

Edgeworth also refers to her as "mean lady" and "quaggy woman." That's a total of three from Dickworth. I'll take "kitten" and hard lessons instead, thanks. (What is insulting about "kitten" anyway?) Diego may be arrogant, but at least he's helpful.

And just because you like someone doesn't mean you can't rip on them. As a matter of fact, ripping on someone can sometimes be the most solid clue that you're quite fond of that person. Depending on the situation, of course.

It's not exactly a "good" reason but Godot's entire character centers around his hostility towards Phoenix. We except the prosecution and defense to call each other names. But when Godot goes out of his way to insult Franziska specifically targeting her gender, it's not hard to see where the sexist label comes from.

Diego/Mia is on my list of least favorite pairings too.

Yes, but Phoenix didn't do anything to Godot personally. He was just an easy target for when Godot wanted to escape his own guilt. "You were there, you should have protected her!" and "Being oblivious is a crime!" He's just basically calling Phoenix guilty for failing to control something that wasn't possible for him to control, considering the situation. But Godot is guilty of that too.

And true, what Godot says to Franziska seems sexist, but he was just tossing a few jabs back at her. After all, she was kind of insulting him and passing judgment on him first.

Is "wild mare" a common way to refer to somebody? Edgeworth calls Franziska the same thing in 2-4. Somehow it seems more insulting when Godot does it.

Like Croik said, it's not a GOOD reason, but he perceives Nick as having failed in his duty, as a man, to protect a woman - he also hates himself for his own failure in that realm.

It's not just a bad situation that caused Mia's death, it was DIEGO and NICK failing to save her. Because women are helpless without men to protect them.

Further to my earlier post, I have a few more that I'd like to state:

:phoenix: x :ayame: - Mainly, because she hasn't shacked up with him by the time of AJ. Assuming she spent 6 months in jail for re-arranging the crime scene in 3-5, she has had 6 and a half years to get re-aquainted with Phoenix, yet as of 4-2, it hasn't happened (Trucy asks Phoenix when is Phoenix going to find a mum for her at the start of the second trial day in 4-2, and he just laughs).

:pft: x :that-b-word: - Because she's dead, naturally (Besides, I'd have thought Matt was more her type anyway). Not to mention that Kristoph is probably gay (Nail Polish, anyone?).

:uramidn: x anyone - Because she's really creepy (and she seems to have a morbid fascination with death).

I honestly liked Godot for he was very challenging as a prosecutor and at least personality unlike KLAVIER!! *glares*

And I wasn't even phased by his comments. My philosophy is if you want people to stop looking down at you earn respect. Don't DEMAND it! Sure, Diego talked down towards Mia, but eventually, he respected her at the end of 3-4.

You also have to remember he just spent an entire day in a blocked off part of the mountains where he had to protect one woman by murdering another and swinging her body across a bridge, then clean up the blood from an entire garden, red-colorblind, before consoling a little girl in a cold shrine. Then he had to conceal himself when the police finally came. I doubt he had much patience left for someone like Franziska, especially after coming face to face with Phoenix. I'm sure he would have been less of a dick under normal circumstances. (Then again, under normal circumstances, Franziska would not have been there.) Still a dick, but he probably wouldn't have gone as far as to quote The Rock.

I'm reading over some parts of the game script, and more I read, the less sexist he seems, at least to the extent people accuse him of being. He just doesn't seem like the "women belong in the kitchen" type. Maybe a bit lacking in the inhibition department, but that isn't exactly limited to women.

Yes, he was one-upping her, but he was doing so in a way that specifically attacked her for her gender, rather than her personal flaws (like a tendency to whip people, for starters). It really comes off as condescending to all women, not just Franziska, and it really bothers me.

I wonder if age and experience aren't also factors? Godot is condescending to Franziska and Mia, but is it because they're women or because they're younger than he is?

As of 3-4, are Diego and Mia already dating? I was wondering if "kitten" is just his affectionate pet name for her. (Whatever it is, it's annoying. I've been called "Kitten" before, and it was a bit unsettling.)

How is that not sexist?

In 3-4, Diego and Mia are not yet dating, but he insists on using childish petnames that border heavily on sexual harassment. The first things out of his mouth when he meets Franziska for the first time are a gender-based insult (for those interested, the term he uses in Japanese was "jaja-uma", which is similar to the English insult "nagging shrew" - aka, "braying horse." At least, I'm pretty sure that's what it was). Then he tells her to back off and let the boys do the real work.

And it's not just his language. He blames Phoenix for Mia because he wasn't there to protect her, implying that he thought Mia was in need of protection. He didn't know anything about Mia and Pheonix's relationship at the time, other than Mia was Phoenix's BOSS, and still he declares that it was Phoenix's job to protect her. Why? Maya was the one who knew Mia was carting around dangerous evidence. Phoenix had no idea. So why would Godot place that duty on Phoenix, if not because he was the only man in Mia's life at the time?

The very idea that even though Mia was responsible for Phoenix as a lawyer, and yet he is somehow responsible for her as a man, makes me think his sexism is deeply rooted to the point in which he doesn't even realize it's there. I'm not sure if the game meant to portray him that way, since sexism is a different kind of issue in Japan than it is in America (and elsewhere), but in both languages that's how he came off to me.

Not to mention the horrible flippancy with which he treats the mortal danger of Maya, Iris, Misty, and even Pearl. Though you could argue that's just an effect of him being a jerk as him being sexist, I'll concede.

Considering how strong and independent Mia is shown in the first two games (to an almost annoying degree) I don't like the idea that she would bend to someone like him. Since this is supposed to be a pairing thread and not a "Is Godot sexist" thread >.>

Why I Hate Kristoph/Dahlia:
The reason I hate DahliaXKristoph (The pairing! The pairing!) is that there's no room for subtlety. There's no room for story. Dahlia is such a boring character: Evil bitch who acts as though she's sweet. Basically, Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" in character form. Or at least, that's how I see it.
Kristoph is such a deep and complex character, and he needs to be paired with someone that can explore all the parts of him. (Get your mind out of the gutter, you.)

If I already posted in here, I apologize for any repetitions.... but here they are, my least favorite.

Nick/Godot, Iris/Dahlia, etc. Pretty much any same-gender pairing of that nature.
Nick/Maya, since I can't take her seriously most of the time.
Miles/Oldbag for obvious reasons.
Kristoph/Dahlia
Apollo/Trucy... only if Trucy were 18 or older and they, ahem
WEREN'T SIBLINGS!!!!!!!!!!!
.. well, then I'd consider those two.

Also... lemme see lemme see....
Trilo-Ben/Regina cuz that's just plain creepy.

If there's any pairing I forgot, I'd have to hear it to decide on it, really.

Hmm pairings i dislike. Lets see:

2. :franny: x :adrian: - Not a yuri person either

3. :edgeworth: x :karma: - I don't see Karma with anyone and it feels a little like incest to me.

Kristoph is such a deep and complex character, and he needs to be paired with someone that can explore all the parts of him. (Get your mind out of the gutter, you.)

...Wow. That's totally backwards in my eyes. Dahlia...
Spoiler: Pretty much all of T&T
...has a past to be explored and crazy family issues, a father she hated enough to jump into a raging river to get revenge on... she dated a twenty-year-old-man at the age of fourteen; she has a somewhat complicated relationship with Iris, she plotted with the mother she hates to kill her cousin she doesn't really know to get revenge on her other cousin who put her on death row.

AJ never showed Kristoph's motivations for anything, except that...

Spoiler: AJ
...he was mad at Zak for choosing Phoenix as his attorney, and got Phoenix disbarred and tried to kill three people (and succeeded twice) over it.

He has no past, his relationship with Klavier has no visible depth. Kristoph's character is flat as a pancake.

So I dislike Dahlia/Kristoph for the opposite reason: Dahlia deserves someone more interesting. :that-b-word:

Sorry...I just had to get that off my chest. If a writer wants me to get over the incest part (considering I actually HAVE a brother...) then they're going to have to go through hell and back.

Reason? When presented with a lot of the "subtext" some of the more insistent fans use to promote this pairing, I lol'd. It just isn't believable to me.

I concur. <3

I love you.

Also, I oppose most canon/semi-canon pairings, usually because I just don't like them, but in the case of Gumshoe/Maggey and ...
Spoiler: Minor AJ spoiler, maybe.
Zak/Thalassa
I prefer someone else with them.

Other than that, the only other pairings I have problems with are Phoenix/Iris, Phoenix/Dahlia, and just generally stuff involving characters I'm not fond of. Which kinda includes Iris and Dahlia but Iris is ok I guess sorta kinda maybe ok not really.

Well, since obviously I stay away from fics/art that involve pairings that don't appeal to me, I don't really mind what other people support. If it's something I don't particularly like or dislike I don't mind (like :godot: and :phoenix: - don't really get it that much, but it doesn't NOT make sense, so... *shrug*), but I will actively stay away from things that have the following -

:phoenix: / :maya: - now, don't get me wrong, i love these two characters. I love them to bits, and their interaction is AWESOME. Just... not romantically. Considering the first time they met was over Mia's dead body, it's not the best way to hit off. And I feel that Phoenix had to take on the role of a caregvier/sibling-like person for 1-2, and watched over her since. HOWEVER! In an alternate world, where Mia was alive and all that jazz, I could see it happening. Their relationship would be different right off the bat, and there wouldn't be the whole 'dead sister/mentor' link between them.
:phoenix: / :ayame: - eeeehhh... I just can't bring myself to like her. She's not exactly a Mary-Sue (I think I made a rant about her in this thread about disliked characters), and their initial relationship was based on lies and trickery. I'm not saying that their interaction (with Dahlia included too) isn't important, I just don't see it ever being able to be picked up again
:edgeworth: / :franny: - again, I love these characters and their interactions... but, I really don't see them outside of their sibling relationship. Whenever I see them in a romantic setting, it seems almost more incestuous than... actual incest? ... ok, that didn't come out right :nick:. In any case, they're also way too similar for it to work for any amount of time - they'd probably kill each other first... well, Franny would.
:gymshoe: / :maggy: - This is more because I don't really like Maggey that much. She was cute in 2-1, but the way she acted towards poor Gumshoe in 3-3 made me sad... :sadshoe:. Although, the way this pairing was portrayed in that fic 'Piano Man' was quite well done, and made me forget my prejudices for a while. Not going to make a habit of reading though (not while there's a perfectly perfect prosecutor around to control appeal to him...)
:godot: / :edgy: - this is more because of my own preferences, and my fangirlish belief that Edgeworth is Phoenix!sexual - I really can't think of him with anyone else... and yet, I don't mind Phoenix being paired with Franny, or Godot on occaison... strange, I know. :yuusaku:

Hmm... can't really think of much else. Crack pairings are *crack*, so I don't mind them... and some stuff shouldn't even need to be discussed (eg, :damon: / :pearl: ... WHAT).

Definetely :phoenix: / :edgeworth:

Damn, I hate that people matches them up! Although yes, they seem pretty close because of the whole 1-4 case.
:phoenix: : Don't worry, Edgey, I'll save you! No matter what! *that's what he says overall*
:edgeworth: : Wright...*seems very emotional*
There was a passage of the case that was like that, and I suppose people matches them up because of the heroism and harshness of Phoenix.

However, I absolutely hate Yaoi, although I will not barf when I see some. I don't have anything against gay people, in fact I know at least 10 gays and they're all my friends. :nick:
But I don't ever imagine any PW character being gay...

What pairing do I dislike the most?

:phoenix: / :edgeworth:

Why? Well, I am not a fan of anything yaoi related and I think of these two as close friends. Not as a couple.

Since GS4 is clear i can safely state this now:
:odoroki: :minuki:
Quit pairing them the're siblings for crying out loud!
What sets them apart from :kyouya: / :garyuu: and :ayame: / :chinami: is the fact
Trucy is underage
