It's hilarious!! XDD

And.. you can't explode. That's bad. Explosions bad. Image

Oh yes, I remembered that particular line from xkcd and I had to get it. 8D

Oh, that's the Cyrillic Millions Sign. I can't actually make it because I'm a fucktard when it comes to unicode, but I bookmarked this page so that if the need ever arises I have it handy. :P If you're familiar with unicode, I think it's U+0489.

But...it was an explosion of RAW AWESOME. ;_;

Biblio: Did you actually draw the comic out? I'd like to see it; sounds funny.

Yeah, I did. I didn't expend any effort on it though...I could probably make a better version. I'll try =)

Edit:
Spoiler: comic and BONUS PICTURE! :redd:
Bonus: This is my doodle-ful Health folder, because I got bored. I know they're horrific...I just find them amusing. http://i37.tinypic.com/2ngug5y.jpg
The actual thing: Blurry, so you can't read the words. I have separate pictures of each panel, but this is already a long post.

Tomas: A mi tampoco!
...NO ME GUSTA NADA VIVIR! :larry:
(Neither do I! I DON'T LIKE TO LIVE AT ALL!)
There you have it.

(Oh, and regarding the x-ing out of a completed post- yuck. My sister once stayed up 'til an hour before she needed to wake up making a 3-D model for Interior Design [she overachieves on subjects she likes, and on the ones she doesn't...well.] and she x-ed out of ALL of it. It had taken around three or four hours.)

Oh, and it's good you did well on your exams! =D

(Ack, that wallpaper is wonderful. :larry: Remember that inferiority complex I mentioned earlier? Well...you're not making it better, shall we say...)

And another side note! Because I hate upside-down notes, you know...*lame pun*
I wrote a poem recently. Right, because that's big news *seeing as I'm the type of person who constantly composes a poem about what they are doing at that moment...* In case any of you fine people want to read it, here it is. It's pretty long, so I'll spoiler it. Incidentally, the non-capitalization is stylistic...
Spoiler: how aging changes things
things were all so clear when I was young;
because they were or because I was simpler then?
I shall never know.
worries were a thing of the future,
pleasures were a thing of the present,
and the past didn't matter.
too soon,
youth longs for age;
foolishly, perhaps uninformed in nature
but still there,
always lurking at the back of the mind...
if only, if only
I were older
if only, if only
I knew everything they seem to know
if only, if only
I just aged a few years...
then, surely, I will be content,
all curiosity satisfied,
no regrets.
well, time is a willing servant for the young!
childhood passes,
years go by,
the child ages,
and so do I-but look!
how much larger the world seems,
and how much smaller am I?
where do I fit in?
and what is this aching feeling
deep in my bones--
why, it sounds like something
I've heard before
but it doesn't matter right now,
too many problems as it is,
let's get going and
maybe watch some TV?
and oh, no
nanobug must hate me, for I threw him in the trash.
(It was an accident.)
suddenly, a gate opens, and
that unattainable goal yawns nearby:
finally, older!
oh, I've all the knowledge I can hold
but still there's more,
and I've all the problems I could wish
but they're too much, but
maybe just an hour more of sleep?
strange, I used to get up so early and
greeting the sun never seems so
happy, hopeful
as it used to and
my heart pulses in time to my headache and
suddenly I hear those faraway words
that I denied for so long...
if only, if only
I were younger,
if only, if only
I didn't know as much,
if only, if only
I just went back in time...
then, surely, this ache would pass
and I'd feel free again, and no regrets
for knowledge is a double-edged sword
one brings pain, the other freedom
and one can never have both
for the child is never satisfied
and the world of the almost-adults is never quite complete for
there's never enough sleep
and too much work.
knowledge? hope? which can you yearn for?
does it matter? time's a pettish master for the old.
childhood's passed,
years have gone by,
the child's grown up
and so have I.

Anyways. I just like all kinds of poetry. Any of you have random things they want to share? Or am I just a weirdie? (Not that that hasn't already been established...)

Glad you did well on your exams. That psychology of language course you mentioned in an earlier post sounds fascinating. I'm currently taking Old English, and It's almost like learning another language...you realize how much meaning English has lost in some ways.

Haha, yeah. I remember learning Shakespeare in high school and going "@__@" at some of the phrases. It's also interesting how languages evolve over time.
For my exam, I studied why animals cannot learn all features of human language (very interesting), why there is evidence for why language may be somewhat innate for humans (interesting!), and how it's amazing how children could possibly learn language (esp. labels for objects) because it's easy to generalize or difficult to specify.
Example: You may point to a dog, and call it a "dog," but what's the definition of a dog? 4 legs doesn't cut it, because if a dog was missing a leg, for example, it's still a dog. All dogs don't look the same, either. For adults, it's easier to recognize what characterizes a "dog."

So, it's amazing how children can even begin to understand. :]

Witty: Thanks! I really like that emote, hahah. The only one I know is the ಠ_ಠ which is EVERYWHERE.
I don't think I can input the Unicode .. I don't have a keypad (I have a laptop). D:
But thanks for the link, I'm just gonna use a Word .doc for my strange symbols.

Yes, he is. It was actually an exercise in the book teaching about the negatives. I looked up 'to live' in the Spanish glossary...and, well, you know the rest. Sometimes you just have to make a comic?

"(Oh, and regarding the x-ing out of a completed post- yuck. I was there watching her. I was just like "...Ashley? Are you aware that you just shut down the entire program...without saving?" Her: "...You know what? I'm just going to finish my poster."
I've once saved over 1-2 hours of work, but nothing like 3-4 hours, thankfully. I would cry if that happened. :|
I think I was closer to crying than she was ;_; I had watched all of it, like I said...it was her first time using the program, and so she wasn't very proficient, which is probably why it took longer.

Oh...wow! Thanks! I didn't think anyone would, you know...actually read it. You know, for Nanowrimo this year my entire novella is going to be comprised of poetry (telling a story of course), because last year I PHAILED. Miserably. A measly 3,147 words. Gosh. But thank you! :edgy:

I don't read tons of poetry so I don't have much to share D: Maybe someone else will share!
I hope so! I really do love good poetry. It makes me feel all buzzy inside. Like Robert Frost...he was actually funny. =) One of those cute-old-man types.

For now, a blast from the past--seventh grade, pals. Back when I still loved rhyming quartets. ABAB, d00d.
Yes, I was ranting about underappreciated lemons...literally.
Spoiler: The Tale of the Misunderstood Lemons
Lemons are misunderstood.

They've always tasted rather good.

Why not pick on some thing worse,

Like brussels sprouts or liverwurst?

It started in their fateful hour,

When someone cried, "The lemon's sour!"

As lemon's era starts to fade,

Someone yelled, "Look! Lemonade!"

So this, my friend, is lemon's fate?

Determined by someone else of late?

So, I beg you, please rescind

And let this awful torture end.

I illustrated it and everything. It was a very touchy subject. :yuusaku: Have I ever said that I am and was a weird kid?

First of all, I'm glad you did well on your exams.
Secondly, that course sounds really interesting. It's a shame I don't learn those things at school, really, as I'm very interested in languages (Spanish and English are two of my favourite subjects) and I'm even considering studying Translation.

Witty's sig is wonderful. The composition is good, the colour too. Everything gives it the "feeling" it should have.

bibliomaniac, I must say that I don't read too much poetry, but I like your first poem. It's better than anything I could write.
The second one is a bit weird, it reminds me of Syd Barrett's lyrics...

Biblio: I love that lemons poem. You have a knack for rhyming well! :D

The only time I wrote good "poetry" was when I won a limerick contest in elementary school once.
The theme was sports/gym, and whoever won got a gift certificate to Baskin Robbins. I won out of 30-50 or so kids! ^__^;

There once was a boy named Scott,
He shot hoops in a parking lot,
He ran and he ran,
Kids thought he was the man,
You should have seen how many points he got!

Ehehe. 6th grade was fun.

Elriel: Yeah, in my high school we never learned anything like the psychology of language or the psychology of prejudice (currently taking that course as well). Glad it's changed. I love my professors, as well. They have years of wisdom and experience under their belt.

Translation is a good choice. Since communication is SO important, we really need more translators who do their job well. I have to deal with Chinese people who don't know a shred of English on weekends... it can get very frustrating.
I was going to become a translator, but my intended career path is probably going to go in a different direction. Still, I'm a China studies minor so I may pursue language study while doing my main job. (Most likely Mandarin ;D)

Thanks re: Witty's sig. I always like experimenting with colors. :B

HAHAHA, Biblio. <33

I had a crappy day at work (just came home). I was about to cry because it was intense and stressful and people were cranky at us (poor counter people) even though it wasn't our fault. (But of course, they can't yell at the chefs, so who do they yell at when they're frustrated? Why, us!)

Your limerick made me smile. I'm going to put that somewhere.. perhaps on my profile or something.
I love it so much!! Thank you for cheering me up :) Image

Hehehe. I showed it to my boyfriend and he's amused too. :D

I HAVE THAT GAME! I have the French version too. However, my sister banned me from playing it because she doesn't think I can pronounce it. Which is true.

It's freakin' hilarious listening to me speak Spanish (because I'm all, Chinese and stuff..).
If it's hilarious listening to you speak Spanish, then imagine how awful it is with me speaking French and multiply that by a factor of 100. I can pronounce Latin and Spanish, and that's it.

I learned the days of the week and I was like, 'HOY ES VIERNES!! MANANA ES SABADO!!"
Hoy es sabado, mañana es domingo. XD

Oh, pshhh. You're not a nerd until you bring an extra Biology book to school (don't ask why I have it, it's nerdy in itself) as well as a book that's Latin with English translation. Which...I do. Languages aren't nerdy! THEY'RE AWESOME!

Witty: I'm sorry to hear that you're sick. :/ Get better soon.

Baron: Ooooh, Japanese was never an option at my school ('cept college now). Lucky ^^

I took French in high school so.. yeah. I'm going to get the French one too. All I remember is random words. I hate conjugation.
Yeah, conjugation isn't very fun.

I was playing this at 11pm last night, so mine applies, nyah~
I know. Can't I have fun with days of the week too? :larry:

Weirdos.
=0

I think if you enjoy reading outside of class, you're considered a "nerd". It's unfortunate how many people don't like to read. (i.e. high schoolers and college kids)
Yeah. It's really awful how that is...reading outside of class is awesome.
There's a kid in my English class--and it's Honors, mind you, which makes it even worse--who basically says things like this...
"Yeah. You know that essay we had to write at the beginning of school on a book we've read? Well, I just did Harry Potter, even though I haven't read the books. I've seen the movies, though, so it's okay, right?"
On another occasion:
"I think the longest book I've ever held was the Harry Potter book. And I only held it."
Argh.

Yeah, it came out a week or so ago. It's really awesome. I think the record your voice part of the thing is amazing and very helpful.
Oh! That's cool =D And yeah, it is helpful.

My Japanese Coach comes out in October. I'm so excited.
...Whoop! (I used to take Japanese, too. I've technically taken Spanish, French, Japanese, and Latin/Greek...it's a long story, but I assure you I learned nothing from my language studies in preschool through third grade.

SO, guess what I've spent all day doing?
That's right! I'm making a Phoenix Wright case on Ace Attorney Online! It's fun...but exhausting. Took me forever to do the cross examination. And I'm only around 1/6th done :larry: If you want, I'll post the link once I'm done.

Same. I didn't get to do Japanese until this year. I had to learn German.

My parents don't think that studying Translation is a good choice, because they think I would have problems finding a job if I studied it. Though I've read that Translation is becoming more and more important, so time will prove they're mistaken... MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Oh, to think that a lot of people in my class say that studying languages is useless... idiots.

Jenna's banner is very good. I like those white lines and the grainy texture; they give it a nice effect.

I'm taking Latin this year, honors at that, too. @_@ I mean, the only reason I'm taking it is because I am such an etymology freak and Latin is the source of pretty much everything that we can be bothered to care about. And in junior year we're gonna have to translate Caesar...oh my god, help me. ;_;

But OH MY GOD, MAJOR LOVE for Jenna's fanfiction header. Maybe when I get writing again I'll request one.

Those "coach" games sound neat. I've always wanted to learn Japanese, it's an interesting language. I may pick up the Chinese one as well. Mandarin is awesome, haha.

Great job on the recent works. Hope things are going well with school. :godot:

Biblio:
No! You can't have fun with days of the week! ... Of course you can. ;] It was a misinterpretation on my part, my apologies.
That kid in your Honors class is.. special. I also find it annoying when people think watching the movie = reading the book. >__<;
Quote:
"I think the longest book I've ever held was the Harry Potter book. And I only held it."

Hahahaha.
It's like what they say.. "I read the book from cover to cover.. only the front and the back cover."

That's quite a .. diverse language education, there. Yeah, it's tough to retain the information if you're
1. not that motivated to learn (i.e. my experiences in Chinese school in 6th grade)
2. don't get enough chances to continue practicing the language (i.e. if you're taking Greek, you're gonna have to keep working at it if you want to remember most of it. I lost almost all knowledge of French. XD)

That sounds really interesting, Biblio. Sure, post the link, I (and probably others) would be interested in seeing the finished product. :)

Elriel: Your parents are silly in that respect. I only wish I had a handy translator around when I interacted with certain people. Language barriers are so frustrating. If you knew Spanish/English you would have certainly almost NO PROBLEMS finding a job, (I know you don't live in the United States but as an example...) especially in the United States. In many businesses right now, being able to speak Spanish is such a big plus on a resume.

Language is very important, because communication is very important. *nod*

Thanks for the comments re: the banner. :) I like the white lines too, haha.

Witty: Kudos to you for taking Latin! Yeah, you'll have a neat advantage if you have to take any verbal section of a standardized exam because you'll be familiar with the roots and all. :)
Haha.. have fun with Caesar. *pats back*
And thanks! Yeah seriously, request whenever you want. My workload's calm right now, and ATM I have no current requests in this thread. :)

ProsecutorBC: You really should look into them. I'm having a fun time, and I haven't even played that much. I heard there are many, many lessons and stuff. It also makes it less of a chore to learn language because it has games (multiple choice, word searches, etc.). At least it tries to not be so tedious.

Jenna: I recommend it. :D Of course, it's $30 for a language game, but I think it's fun and worthwhile. I'm fascinated by language, so if you are too, I say go for it. Those people who rather play a real game than buy a language-oriented program/game should look elsewhere.
I can understand basic conversational Chinese, that's about it. I really need to expand my language abilities. >__<;

Yeah, you probably did but I'm just blind. :keiko:

And yeah, I love etymology! Roots and prefixes and suffixes...I honestly can't get enough of it. I'm a word lover, what can I say? :P And Caesar...oh god, I'm dreading it. But I don't have to worry about that for another two years, so I'm good for the time being.

But right now I'm satisfied with that OMGWIN banner you made, and I haven't been writing anything lately so I'll just stick around for a while.

They're already completed and PM'ed.
You can trust me to not forget orders, especially when I've typed them out in previous posts. :]

Cool; so in college, will you major in linguistics?

Oh, that's good! :'D I'll know for the future.

And translating it is a group project, according to my junior friend; I think you work with four other people and compare your translations with other people.

I'm really not intending on linguistics, actually; I'm probably going for World Literature. ;D

Yeah, I've tried to tell them many times that Translation is very important, but they then reply that being a translator isn't a well paid job. They say I should study another thing, like Medicine. In any case, I still have two years to think about my future.

Personally I think that as long as you get paid enough to live off of, and you enjoy what you do, it shouldn't matter all that much. I'm an English/Medieval Studies major looking at teaching, and given the wages teachers are getting here in the states, I'm not looking at a rich lifestyle, but I love the subject so as long as I get to do what I love I think I'll be happy.

No! You can't have fun with days of the week! ...
:sadshoe:
Of course you can. ;] It was a misinterpretation on my part, my apologies.
No worries. It wasn't very clear on my side anyways =)

That kid in your Honors class is.. special.
Actually, what scares me is that she's kind of average in that respect.

I also find it annoying when people think watching the movie = reading the book. >__<;
Oh, she knew there was a difference, she just didn't care.

Quote:
"I think the longest book I've ever held was the Harry Potter book. And I only held it."

Hahahaha.
It's like what they say.. "I read the book from cover to cover.. only the front and the back cover."
Indeed ;_;

That's quite a .. diverse language education, there.
My school was odd. Basically, preschool through third grade we learned the languages in thirds--first trimester Spanish, second French, third Japanese or something like that. then, fourth through sixth they taught Latin and Greek. I really love Latin, so it made me really sad when I changed to public school that none of them offered it...but Spanish is my second favorite language, so it's okay.

Yeah, it's tough to retain the information if you're
1. not that motivated to learn (i.e. my experiences in Chinese school in 6th grade)
Right...that's why I didn't like Japanese much =/ It just didn't interest me.

2. don't get enough chances to continue practicing the language (i.e. if you're taking Greek, you're gonna have to keep working at it if you want to remember most of it. I lost almost all knowledge of French. XD)
Exactly. My Latin went poof after I stopped taking it. Also makes me sad.

That sounds really interesting, Biblio. Sure, post the link, I (and probably others) would be interested in seeing the finished product. :)
Great =) I have now completed a whopping three cross-examinations, 380 frames, and I'm around...oh...5/7ths or so done? It's hard to gauge. The case, incidentally, is called Turnabout Art Studio because I'm too lame to think of a better name...and the defense attorney is Polly Justice, s'course, around a year after GS4. Mostly new names (no name puns though, also can be accredited to my lameness) but all old sprites because my sprite editing skills are nonexistent. (I've got some ideas, though... :yuusaku: )

Gah. You saying you have virtually no queue makes me want to request something REALLY BADLY. MUST RESIST. *I don't have anything to request except for a wallpaper, see...)

You took the words right out of my mouth and said everything I would have said.
Many Chinese parents are notorious for wanting their children to either pursue medicine or business. I didn't want to do either of those and decided to do what *I* wanted to do.

There's uncertainty everywhere. Blindly following parents' aspirations won't lead to happiness; this is your life and you should live it by pursuing whatever you think will make you the happiest.
I wanted to initially major in something art-related, and never did, because I knew that my life would be more uncertain money-wise than I was comfortable with. That's fine, because I'm doing graphic design on the side anyway. However, you always will have those "...what if.." moments.

Anyway, I'm pursuing psychology because I love it. My parents have been negative about it at random times, but I know that medicine or business is not for me. Yourself = first priority.

Balrog: Hahaha, I'm glad. :]
Witty: Well.. I kind of had already finished like 75% of the banner by the time you posted. XD Do you intend on using it as a signature? The one I made is too big for a signature :/ I'll try cropping it but I'm iffy on how it'll look. Let me know first.

Biblio: You can request a wallpaper anytime you want; I trust you to be polite and patient, etc.
That's a nice case concept! "Life after GS4..." sounds promising.
