Well, that's when it came to me that the pun isn't as lame as other names, like Apollo Justice. You see, in portuguese, the study of Law is called "Direito". The curious part is that it can also mean "Right"(both as in being right and the opposite of left).
Maybe the true meaning of his name? Maybe it's all overthinking?
In anyway, I apologize if this has been brought up before.

I'm pretty sure that they made Phoenix's last name "Wright" so that they could say things like, "Right, Wright?" Just for puns and stuff like that. His Japanese last name is "Naruhodou" which also translates to "I see." So, they would say, "Naruhodou, Naruhodou." in the Japanese version. I don't think that there's any other meaning behind it. ^_^;;
