Topic where we can discuss the beautiful works of Hayao Miyazaki.

First things first: I <3 Spirited Away.

Ah yes, I adore Spirited Away as well. It's beautiful and I so wish that the children's films made in America and the UK were up to it's standards of visuals and storytelling, and not just hyperactive CGI movies filled with fart jokes. I'm looking at you Disney! Seriously, they haven't had a good movie since Lion King. Or maybe the Emperors New Groove, if you were stretching it...
I first saw Spirited Away at Christmas and since then pretty much all my spare cash has either gone on games or DVD's. I ordered Princess Monoke and My Neighbour Totoro on Monday and they arrived yesterday, so I saw My Neighbour Totoro last night and I must say- for a movie aimed at 4/5/6 year olds, it's amazing. And I'm planning to spend the evening watching Princess Monoke, replaying Okami and eating Pocky's.
...
I'm surprised that I actually have friends.

*is urged to rant on about Okami... but won't*

In truth I've only seen HMC and SA but when I get the chance I'm going to look into the other films. Maya Fey

Hmmm, rant on about Okami? What about Okami?
Anyway, back on topic, My Neighbour Totoro is good if you're not expecting a very deep film. It's desigined for small children, but if you can look past that, it's a very good movie.

Basically just stressing how awesome Okami is. Even though that doesn't seem like ranting with the amount of time I'll go on for.. it will be.

Yeah I saw that (On a trailer) it looks nice. What about The Cat Returns? My friend keeps begging me to see it.

Yay! The cult of Okami grows! Seriously, that game is awesome. I can't say a bad word about it. Not one. I can't believe it didn't sell well...
I haven't seen The Cat Returns yet, but I'm planning to get it sometime in the next week, so I'll post a 'review' here.

Howl's Moving Castle isn't as easy to like if you've read the book it's based on. The book was deeper and had more depth that the movie just seemed to leave out.

It's fine if you never read it, but after you have, the movie just feels ... "meh".

Also, Miyazaki is a lolicon lol.

The only one I've seen is Princess Mononoke. It's very different from anything I'd seen before, in a good way. Too often in such films, it seems, conflicts are simply black-and-white, with clearly defined "good guys" and "bad guys," but in Princess Mononoke, the conflict is harder to pin down, and even the antagonists are not strictly "evil."

Agreed. It's good, but the hype surrounding it is just out of proportion.

Yeah that's kinda what I gathered from trailers and clips I've seen.

I'm still curious though. It seems like that kind of film I watch while playing a portable game...

I saw Princess Mononoke yesterday, and you're right. It's good but really overhyped. Like Naruto...Doesn't stop me spending a mountain of cash on DVD's though...
And is it just me or does the plot seem a bit...what's the word...lacking. I don't know, but something just felt off. It's still worth watching, mind you. I'm going into town to trade in some games tommorow, (which I expect to get about 2.5p for, but I could do with getting rid of them...) and I'll probably get Kiki's Delivery Service or The Cat Returns or maybe Howl's Moving Castle, depending on how much money I get for them...

Loved Spirited Away. The plot's really well done and the storytelling's just masterful. The animation's awesome as well.

Can't say much about the others, though. Didn't watch 'em. :|
