I guess I can't go into detail about the series with all the...
err...
children.

But the series is utterly freaking epic. I really do like it.

It has a lot of meaning to it. And the animation is wonderful.

The first seven minutes are the most awesome 7 minutes of anime ever.

"NO LUCY DON'T DO IT!"

Nwuhaha...

yah, alright. It's wonderful. Lucy is hot. And the series itself is...
the true nature of humans towards other humans - both of and not of our species. Very good stuff.

I honestly think it's not that great and it's an excuse for a guy to animate all of his fetishes into one series.

But that's just me.

I will agree he pushes it a tiny bit too far.
Every episode has at least one titty in it.

But I can't mark him down for that.

My gripe is that they try to mix fanservice with philosophical bullshit at the same time, it just doesn't mix. I like tits and philosophy as much as the next person, but I like them separate, you know what I mean?
Besides, I thought that Evangelion did a better job, but that's just a Gainax fan's point of view.

Very very gory S:

Too much unnecessary nekkidness is my one complaint. My dad walked in the room while the opening was playing and he thought we were watching porn ._.

I think if you can get past the ultra-violence and gore, it is actually a pretty interesting series. Bandoh's psychotic (and foolish) persistence amused me.

It's been a little while since I've seen this series, though, so maybe my opinion has mellowed a bit.

Bando was the sole good thing in this series.

When I think Bando, I think
"Look at me! I GOT BALLS!"

Which is why it's hillarious that he gets them surgically removed in the THIRD FUCKING EPISODE XD

So yeah, I really felt Elfen Lied was a very shallow and unlikeable series. This is one of those "deep" things that I feel anyone could write, as there was nothing particularly poignant or well-written about it and it had absolutely zero points to make.

It essentially had huge amounts of killer girls with 'disturbing' imagery, and then threw in a few Pet-the-Dog moments for the absolutely horrible beast of a main character, then gave her a few "waaah my backstory sucks and i had a horibble life" to justify it.

The scene where the bullies at school find and bludgeon Lucy's puppy to death (and she responds by ripping and exploding them to a bloody mess) was probably the worst thing in it and did nothing more than push the limits of how far it would go to exploit gore and violence. Seriously, it had no meaning to it other than "everyone in this series is horrible".

And that was it. Everyone was horrible. Maybe I can concede, Elfen Lied was, sure, a 'deep' series. But it was empty and it doesn't matter how far it explores its themes (which I honestly swear it did not do to begin with), it is still empty and soulless. Soulless as an anime can be.

I also must stress that in case anyone is wondering, no I was not offended by anything in it either (I've seen worse), so I can guarantee you that it did not cloud my judgement.

ahh...Elfin Lied was pretty fricken epic in my opinion... but then again, I'm pretty much imune to nudeness and bewbs :p so THAT aspect didn't bother me at all.
I watched the Japanese version and thought it was a Hellava lot better then the english version.
The story itself was pretty good too (as much of it as i remember, it was a while ago)
and i don't care what anybody else says, it a LOT bettered then the watered down Americanized shit they play! *runs away with flamesheild*

I'd say Elfen Lied is the best anime I've watched so far. =P
I think it's really well written, and I kind of identified myself with some of Lucy's "ideals". I always thought that most people don't give a crap about others' feelings, since I was bullied most of my life. So, yeah, Lucy's my female, and bloody, representation. XD

Well, you just have to watch the rest of the series, then. ;D

I can never make it past 2 1/2 episodes of the series. :(

But I remember accidently spoiling the ending and nearly crying.

I heard about this anime when I watched a "Top 5 freakiest moments in anime" video on Youtube. I was actually planning on watching it after I finished Toradora, but I don't know if I would be able to cope. (^^;)

Well, I feel bad for putting it down in the past because despite the fanservice and over the top violence the anime does have some substance in it. And emotional moments.

I'll give it a go then. As long as it's not as creepy as Higurashi When They Cry...

I've got it on a hard drive right now, but I haven't dedicated time to watch it. I've also got Another and I'm scared to watch it. I'm not good with horror, so I gotta approach it sparingly.

.......I didn't know that about you Blak. :/

I guess High School of the Dead is out of the question. But then again, HOTD scared me when I first watched it, in fact I had nightmares. I'm one of the few people who doesn't get a boner when I hear the words zombie apocohlypse.

I'm pretty sure I can watch HOTD, but Another is like psychological horror and stuff. I saw the first few minutes of it and the OPENING(!) scared me. Dolls and puppets are terrifying... Zombies and boobs? That's something I can handle.

From what I hear, Another is gruesomely violent.

I finally got round to watching this and I actually enjoyed it. The fanservice was unnecessary, but I could ignore it, so it was fine.

I couldn't find the deep meaning it was supposed to have, however. Lucy killed people, so I don't see how she could be considered a good person. None of the characters felt real either. I just enjoyed the story line of it.

And despite how I think Lucy shouldn't be forgiven so easily, I ship LucyxKohta. ^^;
