Who else is excited for the movie?

I recently just finished reading the comics and loved 'em. The trailer makes me wet in places I didn't know existed, and from it, it looks like it'll follow the comics pretty closely. Hopefully Fox realizes they're making a mistake and lets this movie come out. :/

I read the entire comic for the first time about a week ago.

It was a great read, probably the best comic I've ever read.
(Although I only read Punisher comic books most of the time)

The movie never is as good as the source, but it still looks incredibly promising.

I think the comic is phenomenal.

The movie looks not so much. Watchmen doesn't work as a film.

again, yes, the graphic novel was great. unfortunately, porting it to film does away with all the statements it made about comics (and superhero comics in specificity) as an artistic medium, and sort of defeats the purpose of the comic itself.

from what i saw from the trailer it looks well done, but it just won't have the same sort of impact the comic did.

I don't understand the negativity surrounding it.

The trailer is awesome.
And the interviews seem like the actors had fun doing it.
Assuming its going to suck isn't really that fair.

The only problem I see is portraying that one chapter with Dr Manhattan's inner monologue and the other with

Rorschach in prison and with his therapist

Half of Watchmen went over your head if you're not sure of why people are weary of a film version.

That's not say you're a moron or anything. You don't have to read between the lines to enjoy Watchmen on a level. But it just seems to defeat a lot of intention and purpose (specifically in its form as a comic book) to bring it to a new medium. So much of its direction and story-telling factors only work in the comic format.

Honestly?

That is entirely possible.
I've only just read it about a week ago.

Although I am rereading it.

In addition to it really only working in the comic format, there's also the ALTERNATIVE FUELS SUBPLOT arrrgh

I finished the anthology last month, and I really enjoyed it. Although I found the denouement slightly unsatisfying,
Spoiler:
i.e. when Jon kills Rorschach
but I suppose that things don't always work out the way you want them to. Or do they?

About it as a film, I don't really see how the Tales of the Black Freighter bits will fit in; they'll probably remove them entirely. As well, (not sure if the comics did this, but) the anthology had inserts of Hollis' book or fictional newspaper clippings and such between chapters, and those helped me better comprehend what was happening. Those probably won't make it into the film.

Useless subplots? Shit. Why do they always do this? Although, David Hayter wrote the original screenplay for this, and his X-men films didn't do too poorly, if I recall correctly. It may have a chance.

I'm more excited for the Superfriends movie.

That being said, the graphic novel was suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper. Alan Moore's a genius, but at the expense of him also being a complete freak.

They're not using Hayter's screenplay.

The more they add to the story, ultimately, the more they will take away. I am displeased with that bullshit. They will probably take away a lot of the poignancy of the comic.

I still want to see it, but it will probably ruin the comic in much the same way Alan's other works, V for Vendetta and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen were ruined by their movies.

I say ruined in a loose sense. The comics are still fine. But now there are Guy Fawkes fans everywhere and people think of Sean Connery when they think the league (who made the movie hilarious because of the bad lines he had to say in a Sean Connery accent... LOOKSH LEIK IT WAZHN'T DISH TIGERSH TIEM T' DIEE).

I don't think you can really consider the League movie an adaptation at least. That thing was pretty much completely different from the comic.

Hollywood:"There are too many brits in this thing. We need an AMURICAN! Let's add Tom Sawyer!!!"

And poor Sean Connery, doing that film has scared him away from movies for life. Though, had he not done that movie, he probably would have ended up doing Indy 4 which probably would've had the same effect ='/

Sean Connery got offered the Matrix and Lord of the Rings, and he took the League instead. Sigh.

If there's one thing I can say about The League, comic or movie, I never liked how they made Captain Nemo an Indian.

I mean, reading the book 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, you get the sense he is like some educated European or Polish ex-patriate or something, but I did a double take when Ol' Beardy said "I am Captain Nemo"

But that's besides the point.

They are not gunna give Rorshach justice. He is probably going to be made either a complete asshole, or a sympathetic nice guy (that DOESN'T kill people. Hurrn!).

I think Zack Snyder was doing good until he changed Hayter's script, brought in a new writer and

Spoiler: Watchmen
....Got rid of the Giant Squid. WHY DID YOU DO THAT??? I also think it would have been better to make Tales of the Black Freighter a short shown before the movie if they couldn't fit the whole thing in it. Not like it hogged up most of the book or anything. It had it's times but overall didn't take up that much room.

But I liked the 'satire on the mid-eighties/ late 90's superhero movies' costumes they made for characters like Ozzy and Nite-Owl

You forgot Daniel who..

Spoiler: Watchmen
STARTED SLEEPING WITH THE GIRLFRIEND OF HIS FRIEND LESS THAN A DANG WEEK.

Also,
Spoiler: The Question
I wish I had a Panel of that one comic I can't find anymore, where The Question gets his ass kicked after trying to be like Rorschach. It fits so dang well with the topic.

also, here's a funny little thing I found based on the games that will be based on the movie.

i never said anything about his ideals.

none of the heroes in watchmen are good people, and that's sort of the point, so i'm not sure why you feel the need to point out all of their flaws.

I disagree with the statement he is a COMPLETE asshole.

There was no such thing as a "hero" in Watchmen.

But I personally found Rorschach to be the closest.
