Gant or White -- Who Had the Better Power? (Spoilers)

...Anyway, a question came to mind while thinking about the two people. Who do you think had the greater power -- Redd White as El Presidente of Bluecorp or Damon Gant as Chief of the police force.
White had the power of Information which later leads to the power of blackmail. He left an amazing impression over Phoenix as he demonstrated his power over Grossberg and the Chief Prosecutor (Who I guess was Lana Skye then.).
Very wealthy. =D
Gant had the power of the Police Force which is accompanied by his amazing intelligence. He almost led Phoenix into a trap to lead to a Guilty verdict, and also had power over the Chief Prosecutor -- Lana Skye. =P

Rushing this post a bit, and I apologize if this was asked before... But, who do you think had the greater power between the two men?

Anyway, back to the actual question, I have to say Redd. Even though Gant had power over the police and Lana, Redd's call in 1-2 proves he also had the power to accuse anyone he wanted of murder, regardless of evidence. Even Gant and Lana had to forge evidence to make their cases.
Also, Redd supposedly had power over politicians as well. They say the hand that holds the wallet rules the world, after all - if Edgeworth was able to dock Gumshoe's pay at will, just think of what a higher ranking official could do. If Redd had the mayor or even the governor in his pocket, not even Gant would be able to touch him.
Of course, this is assuming that Redd had as much power as he claims to have had. He seemed to crack pretty quickly in court. But if you assume he was telling the truth, I think he was more powerful than Gant.
It's an interesting question. Makes you wonder if Gant's name was on that list Mia almost read in court. Could Redd have known even about SL-9? 8D

I reckon if you think Redd could blackmail Gant originally I reckon the only reason that happened is because well...it's probably just a minor little detail what inconvenience could some small-time lawyer cause him? (If only he knew) Why should he go out of his way to help him, it's a minor inconvenience for Gant I reckon if it was something serious he could get Redd killed....after all thats what he did to Goodman, just Lana would assassinate Redd before he got the chance to say anything.

Sure, but remember what happened last time someone was an inconvenience to him?
He easily killed Goodman. Also there's a completely other police force, where Gumshoe works complete with a Chief who plays games at his desk. I'd expect if he did try and control Gant, Gant would kill him easily.

Mia wasn't some super martial artist, I don't think thats anything skillful on Redd's part that he could kill an unsuspecting victim in a darkened room.
@Croik: Gant was chief of police is it so unlikely he could see Jake disappearing on camera or even set up the assembly specially to allow the murder? Even then blackmail is a crime, and for White to have most effect he'd need a press conference or something to announce the dirt, if he had it, on Gant whereas Gant could simply get Lana to shoot White on sight when they arrested him...she'd get tried for unnessecary force, White would be dead before he could announce anything.

Otherwise, though, I'd say White wins by volume--controlling many people in many different categories--and length of time. He manipulated and blackmailed people for at least fifteen years, where as Gant spent two years controlling people and then got crushed.
I don't think, though, that White knew about SL-9. Gant doesn't seem like the kind of person to bow to anyone to me. It may not have been a simple a matter as killing Goodman, perhaps, but I think if anyone found out about his blackmail scheme and he couldn't control them, he would find a way to get rid of them.

I'm saying given the circumstances he could easily get Redd killed instead of the detective. In particular his absolute power over Lana.
To Repeat myself: How simple it'd be for Gant to have White killed.

Plus does Gant seem the type to commit suicide over some dirt? No he'd probably be sent to prison if White unveiled the SL-9 info but he's such a charming character and a powerful figure even when he went to jail normally he probably is in a cushy cell with access to a swimming pool some days a week, after all Kristoph's power got him access to a nice cushy cell with books.

Press conference nothing--this is what the internet is for. If Redd had dirt on Gant all he'd have to do is click his mouse a few times and voila! Every newspaper, blog, and tabloid in the city knows. He was able to release the information about Misty without getting into any trouble himself, after all.
Gant had control of the police, sure. But Redd had the power of information, which in the right hands can totally topple that easily. More importantly, if Redd had dirt on the people that outranked Gant, Gant's hands would still be tied.

And ok granted the internet is there but I still claim it would be very easy to launch a swift strike operation on Bluecorp to arrest White, furthermore they could cut the phonelines beforehand rendering the internet and outside access useless.

And the only reason White was caught because he slipped up, too. Most of the criminals in AA are ultimately captured because their crime was not perfect. In Redd's case Phoenix didn't even have hard evidence against him, he had to blackmail him into confessing.
I'm pretty sure Gant would win in a fight too, but it's kind of besides the point!

Depending on how the station is run in future PW world, a police commissioner would outrank Gant. District Attorney, as far as we know, outranks Chief Prosecutor, and Gant was not able to control Chief Prosecutor Lana without having dirt on her. Plus above them all is the Mayor, and a state senator might be able to wield more political influence than any of them. Which is why I wrote earlier that assuming White was telling the truth about controlling politicians, he could have a hand in almost every level of the police in AA world.

Back on topic, you're right that White almost got away with murder. If it wasn't for Mia, he would have. I guess I was thinking about the fist fight if Gant would go to Bluecorp to kill Redd White. But if Gant wanted him dead, he probably would send some one else and not go in person.
I guess Gant doesn't have as much power as I thought. Oh well, he'll always have Ganting.
Another thing I like to say is about public opinion. I think that despite the suspicion, Gant was well respected in the community, including those people Croik mentioned. (At least until he was caught). Where as Redd White was probably reguarded as a slimeball. Sure, no one will probably say it to his face though.
