(Another Disney topic, duh duh :yogi: )

Any childhood memories of this magnificent movie? I've watched this movie about 100 times and I still think it's awesome. Timon and Pumba FTW.

So, discuss. Hakuna matata~

(I think my dog looks like a hybrid between Young Simba and Old Simba, doesn't he? Sad that his name is not Simba.)

OMG Lion King FTW! although you know I'd say that from my post in the tarzan topic...

Lion king is amazing, and all the music is even better. I have them all on my mp3 player (yay).
I even did a song from it in my year 6 leaving assembly...

On the topic of your dog, HP. I think it looks more like a cross between Old Simba and Winston Churchill. It works though, He's adorable, and look very soft and huggable.

OMG!!!! I totally love this movie!!! It is so awesome!!! Rafiki is definitely my favorite character. Crazy old monkeys ftw!!!

Anyways, I gotta say imo that this is one of the better disney movies out there. The storyline is fantastic, love the mixture of humor and tragedy. The animation is just breathtaking. I was totally captivated from the start with the whole opening sequence. The characters are all very loveable too!!! I cried so hard when Mufasa died. His death was truly touching and very tragic. Timon and Pumbaa and the three hyenas had great uses as comic relief characters! And Scar is just one of the most awesome Disney villains ever. I don't care what anyone else says. And the music is just wonderful. So many catchy happy songs along with the more serene ones that just make you cry. They are so hard to forget. Lovely bunch of coconuts anyone?
Overall, this movie is so spectacular and really awesome, and for those who haven't seen it must be living under a rock! I recommend this movie 100%.

Looking back at Disney, alot of their greater works came out in the 90s. I don't really find any of their movies today as great and spectacular as what they had in the 90s. They were much more memorable back then and had many memorable characters. I wish that their movies today had all the great magic of the other ones like Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan, Mulan, Lion King of course, The Little Mermaid, etc. The only Disney movie I've really enjoyed in this century was the Incredibles, but it still doesn't compare to the Disney magic of the 90s. And the sequels to these classics suck and lack so much greatness that the their original counterparts had to offer. Well, I'm carrying this way too overboard so I better stop with this! And congrats to those who have had the patience to read all this! I salute you! :larry2:

The Lion King is my favorite movie of all time! I have seen it 100+ times in my life. I also have a rare movie poster. I still cry everytime when I see Mufasa's death. I always get emotional when I watch TLK.

Scar is one of my favorite villians EVER.

Scar was badass.

He had the creepy appearance, the evil goal, and the awesome badass villain voice. Gotta hand it to Jeremy Irons for that one, hmm.

You do not know how much I feel the same. Now that Disney rarely makes old school animated movies and made a jump to the 3D animated movies, they've become less popular. They've gained competition from 20th Century Fox and know it seems that I like Fox's movies more (Ice Age and Shrek). The only 21th century Disney movie I recall to have liked is Monsters Inc, others I haven't watched or they were simply boring. Disney was a part that makes me proud to be born in the 90's :acro:

Speaking of sequel, Lion King 2 was a letdown compared to its predecessor. Well, sequels usually are.

I so totally agre with you! But You can't forget Jim Cummings work in the second half in "Be Prepared". Seriously, Jeremy did such a good job as Scar that I actually used to hate Scar when I was kid. That how I can tell the Villain was done right. :matt:

Yea, and then they go and make a third one.... Sometimes I feel like Disney is trying too hard to revive the magic that it has once lost. In their sequels, it seems like they are just trying to pull for something that just isn't there.

I'd much rather see it on stage, but Disney really did hit it out of the park with this film. They also got the best musical talent in the business.

The "third" wasn't really that bad, It was more just an alternate point of the first movie. Consider the fact that it could have been much worse or be similar to Lion King 2. I enjoyed the "third" one aka 1 and 1/2 more than the Lion King 2.

TLK>LK 1 1/2>TLK2

Has anyone played the Video Games? I played the original Sega Genesis and I loved it until the part of "I Can't Wait to Be King" platforming. So Hard! :beef: I also loved the Lion King Level from Kingdom Hearts 2 but I was disappointed by Timon's Voice-Acting.

Oh no, the video game! I played the original game on the Snes, and damn that was a hard game! I couldn't get past the third level and wasn't "I can't wait to be king" the second level? THE PAIN. Maybe I should try playing it once more just to see if I can do better :will:
I played KH2 as well, the Pride Lands were one of the best parts of the whole game (in addition to Tron world). Can't say about the voice acting though, can't remember because I sold the game two months ago. :yuusaku:

Oh, and I haven't seen Lion King 1 1/2, should probably go check it.

You are right. All disney films now are cheesy. Also, I agree that Scar is amazing... and the song "Be Prepared" is brilliant!!!
It's great to see him tormenting Zazou.

They should release a new game on xbox 360, controlling symba.

Your Right, We should try the game again to see if we can do better.

I watched the movie before I started playing The Pride Lands and it's a noticeable difference in the voice.

Lion King 1 1/2 is very similar to the Timon and Pumbaa TV series (which I like) but sticks very well to the original storyline. You should at least see it once. :pearl:

Disney movies were a big part of my childhood, The Lion King most of all, I think. I remember my mum taking me to see it for my fifth birthday and the queue was so long that if there was one more person in front of us we wouldn't have gotten in. And, my God, I cried so much at Mufasa's death scene. D:

The animation was phenomenal and the shading and use of CGI was amazing and ahead of its time. The songs were possibly the best of any Disney movie and I love the orchestrated score almost as much as Elton's songs.

The charcters were all great - I love Disney, but in most of their movies there is a character I long to push out of an thirty-story window, but in the Lion King it just wasn't the case.
The comic relief - Timon, Pumbaa, Zazu, the hyenas - were actually funny; quite a change from most "funny" characters in kid's movies.
Scar was an excellent villian - he had a motivation, had no remorse for anything and didn't "turn over to the good side" in the end - he purposefully threw away a chance at freedom that Simba gave him and ended up being murdered by those who once trusted him. I love the Lion King because it falls into none of the typical "kiddy movies" cliches. Except maybe the talking animals, but they're awesome.

I would absolutly LOVE to see it live. I just need to save the money, find a friend that wants to go, and get the train to London. I'll do it one day, I swear.

My other favorite Disney movies? Hercules, Mulan, Aladdin, Tarzan and Brother Bear. I don't like many of the '00-onwards Disney movies. I did enjoy The Incredibles, but it was a Disney/Pixar effort and doesn't really count. Other Disney-only CGI movies like Chicken Little and The Wild were very disappointing, I thought.

The sequels are terrible without exception. Really. Lion King II's only redeeming feature was that We Are One was sung by Cam Clarke. The characters were one-dimensional, it lacked the effort and polish of the original, there were inexplicable plot holes and it all tied up way too nicely in the end. And Kiara definitely falls into the category of "characters I long to push out of a window".

I can ramble about children's movies way too much, it seems.

The Lion King is one of the few Disney movies I can actually sit down and watch without getting the feeling that it was cheesed-up to appeal to the kiddies [other include Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Hercules, and Duck Tales: The Movie (was it a Disney movie?)]. I really love it. Timon and Puumba are the coolest characters next to Rafiki and... GAH! I love this movie so much I get choked up trying to think of ways to describe it. It's one of those films that you just can't describe how great it is no matter how hard you try.

Let me put it this way: The Lion King is, without a doubt, my favourite film ever. <3

In fact, there was a time that I'd watch it every day. I'm not joking here. Get back from school, put on Lion King, and watch it 'til the end. Consequently I know almost the entire movie off by heart. Including the songs, of course.

And Scar's one of my favourite villains EVAR. He was so diabolical and overconfident...! (And the fact that Zazu was voiced by Rowan Atkinson doesn't hurt, either.)
Thank you for flying Phoenix Wright. We hope you have a nice day.

Hmm... It's been ages since I last saw it. I have seen some old disney films lately and now that I'm this age, I was able to appreciate it more (in spite of how shallow the princesses were). I really should watch it again. :3

That was one of things I really appericate about The Lion King, No Stereotype Princess! I found films like Beauty and the Beast or Snow White rather cliche but nothing horrible like the modern Disney movies. I always disliked films that has the "The Princess needs to Rescued" plot storyline or something similar.

If I wanted to save a Princess, I'll go play some Mario Games...:sal:

"Begging your pardon madam, but... get off!"

XD Love it.

Yeah LK is one of those movies that you can watch as a kid and then see again ten, fifteen, whatever, years on and still enjoy it with all the nostalgia and none of the cringingness (?) that accompany most kid's movies. It didn't try and shove morals down your throat, not everything ended happily and it was generally awesome. :D
