It depends. For example, if you want to load a custom evidence texture in location"AA-PiJ/evidence/gun.png", you should load it's texture with <loadtexture(ID,"AA-PiJ/evidence/gun.png");> You can put it everywhere, you just have to load it properly. If you want to put it in a "PW/evidence/gun.png" location, load with <loadtexture(ID,"PW/evidence/gun.png");>

Sounds good. Will the upcoming releases be backward compatible with our scripts?

PWLib has a different concepts then other casemakers: it just don't go on a 100 release spree just fixing one bug that comes up or adding new minimal features. Instead, PWLib releases focus on making a new version worth updating to, with massive and groundbreaking new features all in one single release.

I'm working on more things aside from Shinku, so it will take longer then expect. That's why I don't like posting possible release dates.

Just something that I'm working on.
It's pretty much an earlier version, and might not be on 1.2:

I-I-I-Is that 3D Evidence Examination? HECK YEAH!
That image doesn't look so "early". It looks pretty complete. That just needs the Back button.
It may take having to create 3D objects (which isn't that easy), but it's a great advance in PWLib, and a greatest advance in casemaking!

It waseasily put together with AIGE's 3D core, as I did work on it a while ago.
AIGE does support 3D since PWLib 1.0, but it was crappy.

For now, (and it is the most limiting point) it only reads KT3D file formats for models (my text based model testing format).

3D Examine to render is simple, the hard part is to pick the right areas. I'll post something that AIGE supports internally only soon.

Nice.

No problem. Sending sheets isn't something bad for me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A serious talk about PWLib 1.2 and its future:
I first sit and defined a released date for 1.2 on Christmas or the new year, but why it isn't out yet? Many problems showed up, but that's not the real set of reasons that made it be delayed. The real reason was that I got deeply demotivated to work on it, because of a certain range of events that keep repeating themselves. Such lack of motivation made development focus more over AIGE itself then over PWLib new features.
The cause of such lack of motivation just repeated recently, to give some examples. You go, develop something and allow the programmer to put in his game something interesting and very open to their own objectives. And no once seems to care about it, aside from the closer friends. If it was specifically that, it wouldn't be a problem. But then you see, a long time later, someone else do the same thing to a lower degree and you see "oh... it's fabulous!". That is a big source of "why the hell I simply go working my time off to make things decent to simply get no response, and when other do it, he is called like a god?".
So in the light of such thing, development on PWLib 1.2 is very slow, and if such things continue, I don't know if I'll keep my motivation at acceptable levels to keep it going.
I decided to not go and say anything, since fighting fanboys is something I'm tired of, but this situation is making me feel very bad.
I hope people start to understand my point.

Aaww, I know how you feel. Just look at my fangame's ex-post (when it goes out of hold, I will create another one), 80% of it's posts are mine, and it has 2 pages! I think I got 4 or 5 users interested in it, but I keep working on it as much as I can. Don't think I'm not still working on it, I'm developing it's story on a paper notebook when I can. No computer isn't equal to no developement. So, just that. And I always think the same: "Yeah, don't pay attention to it now, but when I release it, you people will love it!" And that keeps me going.

Got some error today:

When clicking the back button in case selection screen I get a error message saying "couldn't find pw_titlescript", I thought it was just a typo cause the script name was surrounded by brackets instead of quotations, but that still resulted in a error. I don't remember modifying the pw_caseselect.hlsl at all, so...

thank you for your help.

Check if you set the [pw_titlescript] correctly.

eg.
setvar([pw_titlescript],"titlepage");

titlepage is the function name that will be used. Sometimes setting the var to an invalid function causes the error. I just tested the case selection now btw.

Just on the note, Young Edgeworth was just updated to meet multicharacter support present on PWLib 1.2 default definitions.

I was almost forgetting this: PWLib 1.2 load order was changed a bit, and I'm thinking on adding limitations (so you can only load basic functionality if you're not going to use advanced).

News

- (AIGE) Added automatic text line breaker. Just enable it and define the size of the line and the system will automatically put the breakers on the correct places. Also it will remove pre-inserted '\n' to ensure 100% automated and correct line breaking in the aggressive mode.

did you call the evidence script twice?

@KSA: thanks, I mirrored the sample script in pwlib somewhat for the case selector (as a example), so that might be why it doesn't work, as function names for the cases are titled differently than in the sample script..

@gavincrossing
The evidence isn't added correctly. You must have done some typo on the code, so let me see it just in case.

@noian
The titlescreen function by itself is normally the function that calls the main screen show and hide (but you can use it differently, of course).

A very classic example of such function (attached to a case selection directly):

[mygamemain]
runscript("pw_showmain");
waitresponse();
runscript("pw_hidemain");
jumptoscript("casemenu");

And a simple preparation for the case selection:

...
setvar([pw_titlescript],"mygamemain");
setvar([pw_episodepath],"episode/");
setvar([pw_episodes],2);
runscript([pw_titlescript]);

The last line here could be switched to:
runscript("mygamemain");

And as I'm flaying code, here is a simple Evidence Definition (Shinku reduces this to a single command):

setvar([evidencenumber],900);
setvar([evidencegfs],80901);
setvar([evidencegfl],80901);
setvar([evidencesup],0);
setvar([evidencename],"Attorney's Badge");
setvar([evidencesdesc],"Type: Other\n One of my possessions.");
setvar([evidenceldesc],"It's my all important badge.\nIt shows that I'm a defense attorney.");
runscript("createevidence");

And the texture load command for it:
loadtexture(80901,"PW/evidence/lawyer badge.png");

Changing the bottomline would be undesireable however, if you changed the name of your titlemenu script. I do apologize that casesel.hlsl inside the examples folder isn't commented very well, so here's a commented version, KSA, might be an idea to include this with pwlib 1.2
Code:
#include(pwlib\pwlib.hlsl) // Include PWLib. or we're missing ALOT.

[game]
definekey("key_lclick",<null()>); // Possibly now redundant
runscript("pw_initpwlib");  // Initialize PWLib. So it sets itself up.
runscript("pw_initpwbgs"); // Initialize the backgrounds. So they will be setup.
setvar([pw_titlescript],"titlepage"); // This variable is the script we go to when we leave case selection. Basically it's our "starting screen" script.
setvar([pw_episodepath],"episode/"); // Set the folder where our case images are kept, this is for the grapics while we're in case selection.
setvar([pw_episodes],2); // Set how many episodes we have, in this case, we have 2.
runscript([pw_titlescript]); // Go to the pw_titlescript script, (which is; [titlepage] )

[titlepage]
changetitle("PWLib: Case Selection"); // Set our games title
runscript("pw_showmain"); // show the main menu (new game / continue / exit)
waitresponse(); // wait for the user to click something
runscript("pw_hidemain"); // hide the menu.
setbgsize(0,0); // hide the background
jumptoscript("casemenu"); // If we got this far, lets call the case selection

[casemenu]
runscript("pw_caseselect"); // call the case selection! we do this hear to prevent possible loop-backs and locking.
waitresponse();

[begin_case1] // If we chose case 1 from the case selection screen, we end up here. We NEED to use this script name.
runscript("case1_setup"); // we can then run what we want to call it. I prefer to set setuff up prior to going into the game.

[case1_setup] // so I jump to here and set my case up..
runscript("pw_createpayne"); // I need Payne created, so I create him.
jumptoscript("case1_begin"); // I then JUMP into the game, JUMP means it will not loop back to case1_setup

[case1_begin]
runscript("pw_showadvarrowmenu"); // show the basic text advance button.
runscript("pw_showprosecutorstand"); // show the prosecutor stand.
runscript("pw_enablepaynenormal"); // Show Payne in his normal pose
runscript("pw_setnameboxtopayne"); // Give Payne his namebox
runscript("pw_showmessagebox"); // Show the messagebox
runscript("showpwchar"); // Show Payne
runscript("setlipsynctochar"); // Make Payne Talk
message("I am here to tell you,\nYour Honor, that this is\nCase 1."); // Make Payne speak this message
runscript("pw_hidemessagebox"); // Hide the message.
placefadescreen(40,"I"); // Fade the screen out
wait(40); // wait for the fade to complete
runscript("hidepwchar"); // Hide the character
runscript("hidepwmenu"); // Hide the Menu
hidegenobj("pw_courtbench"); // hide the bench
placefadescreen(1,"O"); // Put the screen back on.
jumptoscript("pw_endcase"); // Go to the case selection screen, because we have "completed" the case. this allows case 2.

[begin_case2] // If we chose case 2 from the case selection screen, we end up here. Again we NEED this script name.
runscript("case2_setup"); // We then run what we want. again I prefer to setup.

[case2_setup]
runscript("pw_createema"); // I create Ema for this case, because I would like her.
jumptoscript("case2_begin"); // Lets jump into the game!

[case2_begin]
runscript("pw_showadvarrowmenu"); // the basic text advance button
runscript("pw_usepwbgcourthall"); // courthall (The "defendant lobby")
runscript("pw_enableemahappy"); // Smiling Young Ema
runscript("pw_setnameboxtoema"); // Give her her namebox
runscript("pw_showmessagebox"); // Show the messagebox
runscript("showpwchar"); // Show Ema
runscript("setlipsynctochar"); // Make her talk
message("Come on, guys!\nLet's go!!!"); // make her speak this message!
runscript("pw_hidemessagebox"); // hide the message box
placefadescreen(40,"I"); // fade the screen
wait(40); // again, wait for it to finish.
runscript("hidepwchar"); // hide the char
runscript("hidepwmenu"); // hide the menu
placefadescreen(1,"O"); // Main screen turn on!
jumptoscript("pw_endcase"); // Go to the case selection because we have "completed" this case. This would allow case 3, if we had one.

Hope this helps.
If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!

Thanks for the reply. I really apreciate it.
Anyway, I also though it was a typo so I rewrote the whole thing and it still won't work. Then, I try copy and paste the tutorial coding and won't work either...

You're using PWLib 1.1, right?

New Talk Interface:

Image

The talk topics are blank because no gfx was set to them.

The image was taken from the dual investigation area test, showing that both areas are totally independent.

So with the new talk interface, we won't need to make 2 separate gfx for before and after talking each topic? (we can just stick the chk mark on the button?)

P.S. Is there a way to speed up the text?

The check mark, as well the lock, is a separated object, so the buttons stay the same as they are on 1.1 and earlier coding.

The speed is controlled by the setmsgboxtextspeed function.

The default speed is 2:
setmsgboxtextspeed(2);

The larger, the slower. The smaller, the faster.

I just ran it and it works perfectly (the tutomain function must be game, but aside from that, all is fine).

The code you pasted is form the book of from the file you're trying to test?

In any case, i need to see the log file (aigelog.log on the log folder), so I can see what the problem is.

I'm sorry, but this is my first time coding (sucessfully), so I don't really understand what you are trying to ask me to do...

This:

[tutomain]
jumptoscript("setup");

Should be changed to

[game]
jumptoscript("setup");

There is a typo on the book about it. This is the first thing that should be done (I think you did it already).

The problem you have is that evidence is not been created or given to the player.
AIGE logs execution on a file called aigelog.log that appears on the logs folder.
This file allows me to know what went wrong on the execution of some script.

If I see the file I can try to find what AIGE tried to do and why it failed. Sometimes it's just a typo (a missing ; or something).

Any name you like, the filename by itself is not specific. The extension must be .hlsl if you use the auto folder.

No, there isn't a way (at least yet). I will later try to make it, but nothing for now.
I would need to develop one "AIGE for DS" to make it possible (lots of time, and I want to finish AIGE first).

News

- (AIGE) Added waitfpsstabilization(n) command. Under testing. Will wait for the fps to be at least n to continue.
