Edgeworth and Gumshoe- Back story?

Do you this it'll be the same for GK? Yes, we already know why Miles is a prosecutor, but why is Gumshoe a detective? Why does he stay in a profession when he could be flipping burgers and making more money?
Why are Edgeworth and Gumshoe friends? I wouldn't be friends with someone who cut my paycheck on a daily basis, that's for sure. Is it really said "bond of trust" between prosecutor and detective? Or is it more than that? Since he's not as loyal to Franziska or Godot, I'd say it's more than that...
And Miles always seems so irritated at Gumshoe, making me wonder why he tolerates having him around.
So, do you think Gyakuten Kenji will answer these questions and add a back story between the two?

I think this is a very interesting question. I think Gumshoe idolizes Edgeworth. He wants to make him happy so the pay cuts only motivate him to do better to please the prosecutor. I don't know if they would take the time out to explain all of this, but maybe a few lines of dialouge could give us some clues.

Over time I think the relationship grew into a brother/younger brother relationship. Gumshoe (the younger brother) views Edgeworth with great admiration and wants to be like him. Edgeworth (the older brother) finds gumshoe annoying and bullies him a little, but he does genuinely care for him.

And I can definitely see the shoe thing happening. After telling my brother about it, we laughed. My mother only made a confused face, aha ha.
I look forward to more scenes with Gumshoe and Miles, though. They were always amusing. Besides, learning about the two is always fun.
It'd be funny if Gumshoe asked for love advice from Miles...

why i can see gumshoe as the type to be a loyal little puppy dog to a complete stranger i've always asumed there was some sorta case or event that tied them together mabye one of the prosecutor (possibly winston) was picking on him for being a detective then miles butted in and said something about how detectives and prosecutors are equally important and that one canot work with the other being moved by this detective promised edgeworth that from that day on he was going to work extra hard to forum the ultimate team of justice with edgey and that's where the brotherly relationship began it's possible edgey feel somewhat close to gumshoe to because he was his only friend he had in a really long time but being angsty guy edgey is he try to threaten him with paycheck in fear that gumshoe might abanden him one day .... i've really read to many fanfics and manga though why gumshoe became a detecitve in the first place is a question that i hope is answered along with a little more about his past and such
i can totaly see gumshoe asking love advice from miles i really hope that's in the game >v<

i was woundering about that to after all in the trailer they have that picutre of the guy pointing his gun and edgey i wounder if gumshoe posibly saves edgey from this guy probally causing some emotional development for the both of them though there a possibility gumshoe can get injured why trying to save edgey which may also cause some stir?

I don't like to think they have too much of a dramatic background, since every other relationship we know of including someone and Edgeworth is dramatic.
ie., Phoenix and Miles as the lost childhood friends, Franziska and Miles as the siblings under the control of a "monster", or Gregory and Miles as the torn father and son.
It'd be nice to see Gumshoe and Miles as the simple partners.

I don't think their background would have to be dramatic. Hmm... Maybe what I'm actually looking for is some sort of instance when Edgeworth actually appreciates Gumshoe, because in GS he's always just like: "Grr... Pay cut!" Or... "Gumshoe.. Like gum on your shoe, impossible to get rid of." ect.
In my head-cannon, Edgeworth appreciates Gumshoe. I wish that was shown more in actual game canon.
Maybe they could just throw a few lines in random dialogue showing why Gumshoe is so loyal to someone who cuts his salary so much?

As nice of an idea as this is, Edgeworth's first case was in 3-4.
HOWEVER, perhaps after that case, Gumshoe went to Edgeworth's office, and asked if they could be partners, Edgeworth, feeling pity for Gumshoe(For whatever reason), let him be his partner.
AND THEN A FRIENDSHIP WAS MADE THAT WILL LAST FOR HOWEVER LONG ACE ATTORNEY GAMES ARE MADE!

i think rather gumshoe has some tragic side story or not miles and gumshoe will always be simple partners i think that's just the kinda friendship the creator was going for why miles might pretend to be annoyed by gumshoe he probally was the first friend miles had after von karma took hold of him so i can see miles having an unspoken gratitude for him

Love advice XD Gumshoe would probably misconstrue/take too literally whatever Edgeworth said and make an awkward situation. Poor guy...it'd somehow resolve itself, though, so everything would be cool. (It just would. Really. O_O)
I like the idea of Edgeworth being all dramatic and Gumshoe being like, "Naw! All that happened was [whatever it was as bluntly as possible], pal!"
I can't make a cool sig until I get my laptop back. ;_;

So, Gumshoe is to Edgeworth a moral-slave, in the good way. He thinks it's a way to repay him for what he did.
And I don't think Edgey really cuts Gummy's salary. He just says it to not show his true feelings of friendship :)
