My sincerest apologies if this has been brought up before.

Since there's no court scenes, and thus no 'guilty' or 'not guilty' verdict, how do you think these cases will end? Probably with a confession from someone, and maybe a sly, "I'll see you in court" from Edgeworth? I mean, the criminal is going to have a trial. So technically the cases are going to the end before the story does. Am I making sense?

Im thinking probobly the arrest of the criminal.
Or, they could possibly end the cases at the beginning of the trial?

It could end with a confession. If Edgeworth gets a confession out of the criminal during the "interrogation" phase and they come to some kind of plea bargin, there wouldn't even be a need for a trial would there?

Good point. But, and forgive me if I'm wrong, isn't it guaranteed in the Bill of Rights that there will be some sort of trial? Like, even if they're just pleading guilty, you do still have a trial, right? Oh well. XD

No no having a trial after a guilty plea would be silly and a waste of the court's time.

What happens is that the person pleading guilty does so in the presence of the prosecutor and judge. They have to agree with the prosecution's version of what occurred, and sometimes have to describe exactly what their crime was. The judge then gives them their sentence.

(Obviously, this is the real world American legal system I'm talking about.)

I'd imagine that, like a normal mystery story, the case will end with the criminal being completely pinned down and unable to weasel their way out of it, possibly ultimately confessing. They'll then be arrested, and we may get some afterword telling us about their trial (if they didn't confess) or something like that.

I would imagine that it might end with the outcome of the trial if the case does go to court. If it ends with a confession from the killer, it might end with Edgeworth's reflections on the case at some point after the confession. Either way, we'll probably get some reflection from him like we did with Phoenix in his games.

Granted this is Wikipedia knowledge, but still worth considering:

Quote:
In comparison to other countries in the developed world, Japan has a unique prosecutorial system. Ninety-nine percent of criminal defendants are convicted in Japan, and almost all are convicted following their own confession. Prosecutors tend to bring charges only when they have a signed confession from the accused, and such confessions often occur after long questioning by police. Although defendants have a right to counsel, it is generally not possible for them to obtain counsel between their arrest and indictment. This makes it difficult to judge the true extent of criminal activity in Japan, since many possible criminals refuse to confess and are thus never indicted.

Normally the games contradict this entirely - hardly any of Phoenix's clients confess, and of course the evidence is always very skeevy. However, when working the game from the prosecutor's POV, it makes sense to make a confession the primary concern.

Wow. Fascinating. I didn't even guess that... So that's why not losing a single case in 40 years is even possible.

It seems there's power imbalance, though.

A different article goes on to say that because Japanese court proceedings are so predictable, most prosecutors know exactly what they need to win a case, and won't go to trial unless they have it. If they do go to court and end up losing, it's a pretty big deal because he or she "should have known better."

In that kind of environment it almost makes sense why von Karma (or since it's Japan, Karuma~) would value perfection so much: a single loss reflects even worse on a prosecutor there than it does in America.

Of course, I can't speak to how accurate these things are, and with Japan reintroducing juries relatively soon, it's likely going to change. But interesting nonetheless.

Maybe it'll be one of those crime drama endings where the police haul the criminal while he's saying "I'll get you for this, Edgeworth."

I've started looking for PW-esque games to play and I stumbled upon "Unsolved Cases". It's basically PW, without the court scenes and a more planned out investigation. It's quite fun and I can recommend playing it. Take that game, mix it up with the DS version of CSI, sprinkle Edgeworth and Gumshoe over it, presto! Instant GK!

Now to get to the endings. The cases in UC end with a "Final Report" in which you report your findings to your boss. You lay out who did it and why. Your boss gets the warrant ready and the arrest is made. In the end, you talk about motive and the exact modus operandi with your fellow investigator and the chief.

I could live with that.

Every case must end with Edgeworth and Gumshoe dancing to the YMCA song, and they're walking down the street dancing with characters from the previous games following along, dancing.

Hahex makes a really good point. In PW world, you can still be defended if you're pleading guilty...Ron DeLite was sort of pleading guilty too.

The criminal confesses, and Edgeworth turns to the police chief and says, "That's your man, sir." He smirks and walks out of the room with the Perry Mason Theme plays.

It'll probably just be the criminal confesses, (the police take him away,) and then there's a little afterward akin to the defense lobby scenes at the end of each case in GS.

I think it'll cut to a swift sped up courtroom, where everything is speed lines and music and *insert pathetic defense attorney here* snaps in one shot and then it ends with a zoom in of Edgeworth bowing.

After that we have a lobby scene where Gumshoe offers to make them all noodles.

We don't know much about GS5, but I guess one can say it will be made. That's where Polly comes back in (probably). GK is a spin-off game, could be called a different series. I don't think Apollo will come into GK, but it certainly isn't the end of him.

Exactly. Plus, GK takes place after case 3-5 so Apollo would be like, 15 years old then.

I like that idea. It has all of my support! My idea:
Edgeworth: You did it, didn't you?
The criminal bursts into madness as the classical Ace Attorney meaning he did something.
Edgeworth: I'll call the police to cease your wounds.
Edgeworth grabs a phone and an art concept of him calling the police appears.
