I can handle cold weather as long as I'm bundled up in 5 layers. However, the restaurant layout is STUPID in the sense that the counter (where I work at) faces the entrance/door way. So, whenever customers open the door, we (counter people) get a harsh blast of cold air!

I don't wear my winter coat or 5 layers while working at the restaurant because it looks silly. So, I'm left there to freeze. T__T;

You're next on the waiting list, btw. :D

Poor girl...move away everytime someone enters! D:
I was raised in a cold place here in Brazil, that's why I can withstand cold better than heat...still, I'll bet anywhere from the U.S.A. is colder than here...well, maybe not all, but most of them. I'll go see for myself someday. XD
Yay, I'm the next on the list! :knock-knock:

Hay guyz!

I made it back to the apartment in one piece, even if one of my roomies had to come save me when my ride from the train station flaked out. But classes have started up for me again, and it's mostly awesome, though one of my professors embodies every bad embarrassing stereotype of English majors.

He's my brit lit 1990-present class though, so I knew I probably wouldn't like it to begin with given I dislike modernism so much. Luckily my profs for my classes on Jane Austen, Development of the Sci-fi genre, and Beowulf in old English are awesome.

So has anyone else started back up? And if so, taking anything interesting?

Aliucon: Haha! That's a funny situation to imagine.. but no, I actually just try to curl into a little ball when someone enters the restaurant. Those ghastly winter chills are bad. >__<;

I live in New York. :D (Not the city!)
It doesn't get too too cold here, but cold enough to have your hands frozen stiff.

Balrog: Hahaha, I'm having some trouble typing this message right now because my hands are frozen stiff, too. I just got back from work. I'm really happy you like the outcome :)
That's cool how the text ended up fitting perfectly within your icons. XD This wallpaper and your desktop were meant to be together; it's fate!

Your classes.. start early. o__o; I still have a little more than 2 1/2 weeks left of break. Are these winter classes or something?
What's the stereotype of English majors? O__O;

Your classes sound great! I like the sound of the development of the sci-fi genre course and the Beowulf in old English.

I haven't started back up as I already mentioned... and nothing too thrilling is scheduled for the Spring semester.
I changed one of my minors to a major so I'm a senior (last semester is next semester) and I'll be taking a 100-level course. PAH. It'll be so boring, I bet.
I'm also taking a independent research course... I haven't picked a research topic yet for my final paper but it will be on bilingualism (English/Mandarin, probably).
My other course is another requirement to fulfill, so eh. Not particularly excited about it.

Otherwise, I'll be working in a research lab as well as the school's career center! I am very excited to work at the career center, because I'll get to contact many employers through the school and help plan events on campus. :D

Voice crack FTW! Hahaha. Way to ruin the dramatic moment.
That was AWESOME. All of it. =D

Thanks for wishing me well.. the cold is gone, I just have the sniffles now.
That's good =) I'm down to a small sore throat and runny nose when I'm outside, so that's good.

And yup, I'm still on break. I'm off from school until the 26th. However, it hasn't felt much like a vacation, considering I have to work almost every day and it's just not happy times..
Normally I'm probably one of the most optimistic people I know so I know that sounds quite odd.
Yeah, it's okay. ^^ I understand that. Sometimes school can be better than breaks. One thing that irks me is how much you forget...
Ahem. Yes, I'm still on break. WOOoo.. eh.
You could be a good unenthusiastic cheerleader! (I specialize in that kind. Awful at the normal perky kind of cheer and/or leading.)

And incidentally, your new classes sound cool. /Maybe not the 100 level one, but./
As for me, my new school is psycho. No change of classes in between semesters. I guess they're going for quality over quantity or something, but seriously, school administrators. Taking all the core classes plus a language only leaves us one slot anyways, and with the P.E. requirements only 2 open slots for all the years of high school...but in the end, it means I'm left with the same six classes. Also, the semester doesn't end until the 23rd. But I have something else to look forward to! That week, starting Wednesday, we have FINALS!

Yippee. >> That only means I have to study for 4 comprehensive tests. (Luckily, in English the comprehensive test comes at the end of the year [luckily?] so on our finals day, we're watching the old video of Lord of The Flies. Speaking of LotF, today we had a fun activity- after discussing a psychologist, Maslow, and his Theory of Self-Actualization, we got to pick an object from the book and make an abstract drawing of its symbolic meaning. I love assignments like that because you can, say, make a random blue scribble and then say that it represents the torn fabric of humanity. ^^ And I got to take our group's poster home. Then, I don't think we'll have a final in Drawing because I seriously have no idea what the heck our final could be. What could she make us do, draw a still life with one-point and atmospheric perspective that utilizes color and shading in the form of a logo/branding ad? <<; I doubt it somehow...) But the tests I do have are going to be big. Geometry, Biology (Echhhhhhhh, it's going to be hard...), Spanish, and then maybe Health...

Anyways, I'm done complaining ^^ Hope your break has MOAR HAPPYTIEMS.

That being said, I'm sorry to hear that your day wasn't the greatest. I hope things work out for the rest of the week. If you need someone to talk to about it, I'm right here.

My day was much better today, but we'll see how the rest of the week goes. It was mainly an issue that a student had with our professor and decided to confront me about while the professor was standing five feet away. It was very awkward because technically the professor is my employer even though she does not sign my paycheck.

Jenna, I am interested to know what this stereotype is too? I wish they had a development of the sci-fi genre at my university because I know I would have taken that instead of American lit post civil war again (curse you American Lit.).

I did that my senior year too, but I just needed an extra three hours so I could actually earn honors credit at graduation. I had the grades already and I wasn't about to let the university take that away from because I was missing a three measly hours. It wasn't boring because the professor was very interesting (it was an Ethics class). However, the students in the class made it unintentionally hilarious. That was the first time I ever heard someone complain about a four page paper and actually say "What is this? Grad school?" My English major friend and I actually laughed out loud when this one girl said that. We were used to writing either two 5-6 pager papers per course or one 10 page paper. Four pages would be a piece of cake for us. It was also a MWF class and many of the students thought that Friday was optional.

Yeah, we're on the quarter system here and we're required to be on campus fall/winter/spirng quarter with summer being optional.

What's the stereotype of English majors? O__O;

Well, the main negative stereotype is that they're snooty high brow types that try to make everything sound twice as important as it is, commonly through the use of a lot of large words or excessive rambling (Think the long winded know it all stereotype and add in a bit of snooty trendy coffee house types). I hate getting classified under than, and it's happened pretty frequently, most of the time by math or science majors.

Quote:

Yeah, and luckily they're both really cool profs. The reading is going to be murder this quarter though, and I have to do 300 lines of translation a week for Beowulf. Still, I have an excuse to read cyberpunk novels for credit and that's awesome.

Ah, all our undergrad stuff in the English dept is 100 designation, but hopefully yours turns out to be better than you think. That tends to make the workload a lot more bearable. The research paper sounds pretty neat though, as is the research lab stuff. I hope it all goes well.

Honestly next quarter I need to take something that...doesn't involve reading...

@lunaria: It's actually part of a longer sequence that they have every quarter and it tackles a different genre. the one before this one was Fairy Tales (really wanted to take it T_T) and the next one is mystery novels, which I'm so all over. I'm a huge Noir (1940s film and novel genre not anime) fan.

Does the stereotype count if you use big words without thinking about the fact that their big? I use many words I consider big, but I kind of do it without thinking, "Oh, I really need to sound smart and impress people so I'd better use anachronism instead of time/place error"

I don't remember too many people making fun of us for being English majors in school. I just remember being asked all the time, "Are you going to be a teacher" because that is apparently the only thing you can do with that degree according to most people.

The two classes I wanted to take at my unversisty were Children's Lit and Adolecent Lit. However, they were not offered on our main campus, but a satellite campus that was very far from where I lived. If it weren't so late at night I would have taken it, but I didn't want drive more than an hour home from school at ten o'clock at night.

I'm not a big fan of this month-long winter break because I feel so utterly lazy. I actually like having schoolwork to be done because I feel very productive during the semester. Nowadays, I wake up, work on graphics work, then go to the restaurant for the evening. It's a very monotonous routine and I'd rather be in class learning. >__>;

Ohhh. I'm a math/science person but I always admired my friends (who are English majors). Some of them plan to go into journalism, I think... Anyway, I always admired English majors because I wish I could write really well. I wish I had better control over the English language (fluency, transitions.. and all that).
It's difficult because I have to deal with broken English all the time. I can't blame my parents for that, however.

Good luck with the reading!

I hate to add to your load, but I am in search of an icon. :3 Could you please make me one if you have the time?

Text: If I were a painter, I would paint my reverie... if that's the only way for you to be with me. (if you can't fit it all, then you can just do "If I were a painter")
Image(s): Vera sketching, with a faded image of Apollo sort of in the background.
Any preferred size?: Naw, just so long as it'll fit the icon guidelines.
Color scheme: Grayscale, except for Vera and Apollo.
Extras? (hearts, stars, swirls, etc.): Is it possible for you to do, like... brush strokes, sort of? It's hard to explain... hopefully you know what I mean. XD;

Thank you so much! How've you been? ^^

Hey all, just came back from work. Hands frozen! (I really need to remember to bring my gloves..)

Incendiary: Don't worry about it! I love receiving requests regardless of my workload as long as the requester is polite and understanding, which you certainly are. :) I enjoy helping others out no matter what.

Have you been playing the games you've gotten for xmas? I watched the ending to Valkyria Chronicles this morning. "Love Passed On" is great.

Well other than being teachers (when people ask they usually mean elementary or secondary education), and other than being a degenerate hobo working above minimum wage jobs (my current status), English majors actually have many options for career paths. We can go on to law school and become lawyers, we can work in industries that require people with good editing skills, we can go back to school and become college professors (I hope to be on this path soon), and basically any job that requires someone with analytical thinking skills is an option to us. However, sometimes its hard to convince certain employers that people that spend the latter years of college writing about a character's motivations or analyzing scenes can then turn those skills into something that will benefit the greater good of a company.

Those are the ones I can think of right now, and I could probably generate more ideas when I'm not so tired.

Hi!!!!!

Umm... (I`m a little nervous of not having enough manners). Well I would like to make a request for a signature.

First I would like to know (if you do my request of course) how would I receive what I will ask for.(E-mail, you`ll post it here and i`ll just copy it, etc.)

That`s my only doubt so... mmm... I`ll tell you the specifications:

Image: Franny Von Karma Crying, a pic of the whip at the left and the card with the draw of Nick (the best pic you can find) (both the whip and the card vaguely visible)

Text:
Below the whip: I`m not worthy of being a Von Karma anymore.
Below the card: I couldn`t even beat that men!
In the middle below :franny: with big letters: You can stop being a Von Karma but you`ll always be a prosecutor.

Colors://EDIT\\ I thought of some colors turning darker (I don`t know the term in english for that) i`m between green or light blue (is that the name? correct me if wrong plz)
Effects: your decision.

That should do it (if you find something better with Franny you have full authority to decide what`s better).

I appreciate that you take your time to help the users in here although you have your own stuff to do and that you have fun doing it. We need more people like you so even before you finish my request I would like to thank you.
(sorry if I commited mistakes in my spelling or grammars I`m chilean (I speak spanish))

Thanks. It was, is and always will be a pleasure. :godot:

-----EDIT------

P.D: In the sig leave your mark like "by vicky" or something like that. Sorry if this caused you any kind of trouble for you.
Thanks. It was, is and always will be a pleasure.

Hey, I'm new to this forum, but I love it already :gant:

I've looked through a couple of pages in this thread and saw some of your absolutely AMAZING work.
So, I guess you know where this is going, I was wondering if you could make a "sign" for me. (and a similar Avatar, with just the phrase "ScienceFever")

Here are some of my suggestions if you choose to/have time to make it for me :edgy:

Text: "ScienceFever" and elsewhere "It's all about Science. Dissagree and you shall be Snackooed" (I'm not sure how to spell that last bit.)
Image: Older Ema (2 pics - preferebly these, unless you find some Fanart that will look better :minuki:

Image

Image

Color Scheme: Deep Greens/Light Greens, etc.
Extras: Anything that will make it look even better. I trust your taste. :phoenix: (Maybe some leaves ect. or some test tubes? Maybe some Ema style Smillies :hobohodo: )

First of all, I have to say that I love the work I've seen so far. I was looking through all the wallpapers and I was entertained for the last few minutes. I especially love the one with Godot and Phoenix.

Also, I have a request.

Text: "Sometimes the truth is better left hidden in the shadows" Don't care about placement for that one. "Resist The Call" in the bottom right corner
Image(s): Edgeworth in his arm grabbing look to the side pose. (Maybe you could edit him holding the revolver from 2-2)
Any preferred size?:Eh, whatever you would think would be good for a signature.
Color scheme: Dark colors, maybe a yellow like a glow from a fire
Extras? (hearts, stars, swirls, etc.): As long as its not girly, I'm fine with whatever you put on it, though I am partial to some minor tenticles... not in a perverted way though.

Whew, sorry folks. Been out for most of the day..

Lunaria: That sounds similar to the wide range of possibilities for Psychology majors, as expected. :) Since we're "trained" to analyze journal articles and other research, as well as trained to write research reports, Psychology majors have a versatility that would be applicable to many career fields. I know a Psychology major who is going to go on to law school and another that will be going to med school. I'm going into business... yeah, you see where I'm going with this.

I'm glad that undergraduate work can be so versatile. It's good to know you have options if you don't have your heart set on a specific path yet. :)

I'm extremely happy to see some new faces! Sure thing to all three of you (eliasbloodmoon, HaoS, and Gray Godot).
I'll add you all to the waitlist, and thanks for admiring my work -- I appreciate the support.

Awesome Trauma Center sig Vicki! After getting it for Christmas, it became my second favorite game. Can I ask who you got the affect on "you can always count on me"? It looks just like the game's logo. :phoenix:

Gray Godot: I PM (private/personal message on CR) all requests and I also post them in this thread when completed. I tend not to e-mail requests because I find it unnecessary.. if you need it e-mailed that's fine with me (either PM me your e-mail or post it here). :)

TheBaronAndEma: Thank you! I'm happy that someone who is familiar with the series appreciates the attempt I made at somewhat of a replication of the game's logo! I've never played Trauma Center myself but I am vaguely familiar with the gameplay and characters.

I drew the heartbeat line myself (blue instead of red because it suited the rest of the signature better), and the font used for the lower portion is Impact while the font used for the upper portion (which is NOT the actual game logo font but is a font that I had handy and looked similar in style) is Neuropol.

I love replicating game logos if they're not too impossible to do, haha. :)

HaoS: Look below for the waitlist. I update it everytime I complete a request. :)
It's not as scary as it looks.. although I'm usually a busy person, it will never take an "unreasonable" amount of time to complete a request. (Even though I have a whole other graphics thread on another forum @__@;)

Fortunately almost everyone who has requested here has understood that quality is better than quantity. :B

I'll add you to the waitlist. ^^

I've been busy (as always), but life is great so no major complaints here. How about you? Happy new year, by the way!

Ah that's great ouo I've been fine; just started school again, and now we're on block schedule, which sucks, because I have to sit through Geometry and Chemistry and History for two hours. Only for two days a week though. I had a nice Christmas; got some epic PW action figures. And thanks for the happy new year wishes ^^ You, too!

Really? I thought you put out, like, twenty of these a minute?... This is even funnier because I've been studying my cousin's books, and he's a buisness major.

Incendiary: Aww, good luck with school. I never liked Chemistry and History in high school :x It's great that it's only for two days a week! I don't have an obnoxious schedule for the Spring semester, luckily.

I'm also glad to hear that your holidays were great! :)

elias: Haha, I could technically put out like twenty, but I'm guessing they would look like a scribble or half-assed background... and that's just not how I roll. 8)

Gray Godot: Sure thing. :) Thanks for being understanding!

Missile123: Aww, thanks for crediting me in your thread. I wish you luck on the thread! :)
It wasn't too much trouble at all -- I appreciate the concern. I'll try to read it sometime.. if not, I will post in your thread to offer my support.

Hehe, thanks for choosing me for your graphics needs. As always, feel free to come back anytime!

Batdor: I'm like 40% done with your signature.. I will be working on it and will most likely complete it by tomorrow morning. :) Thanks for being patient!

w00t! Sarcasm FTW. But yeah, I don't mind you takin' your time. If I wanted scribbles and half-assed backgrounds, I wouldn't even go to anybody.

I'm happy you like it, Bitter_Godot. I also appreciate your understanding with the colors.. Christmas colors would be silly. ^__^;

Phoenix and Maya Fan:
I've never personally played Persona 4 myself, but I have heard NOTHING but excellent things about it so far. My friend has played it for several days straight because he said it was so addicting and that the story just kept him going. He loves it so much that I'm making him a P4 wallpaper, haha.

Anyways, here is some support to back up everyone's claims about the game.
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/persona4/index.html
The critics' scores and the users' scores are in agreement: an average score of 9.3-9.4 which is excellent.

I have also heard nothing but praise for the other games in the Megami Tensei series (i.e. spin-offs like Digital Devil Saga), so the series itself has a good reputation.

Oh, and here's another link:
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platfor ... ersona%204 (metacritic is a good site to check for games you're thinking about getting because it shows you general scores across several websites)
Most of the scores listed are high 90s, which I'm impressed by.

Although it's important to never completely rely on other people's ratings (everyone has their own personal taste and opinion, after all), I find it interesting to check up on them just for the general consensus on the game.

I'm going to buy it after I finish a few PS2 games.

Phoenix and Maya Fan: Awesome, let me know how the game is after you finish it or even while you're in the middle of playing it.

Elias: Ha! Good luck with your plans, once you carry them out. ;D Some people will buy anything, and that's true for almost everything and anything out there.
