papermario: Oh good, I'm happy you like them ^___^

Biblio:
Spoiler:
Congratulations on the A! :D Yeah, in college I noticed a LOT of people who simply refuse to come to class, which bugs me, because well.. they/their parents are paying a large amount for tuition. What's the point if you're not even going to class? :/

Lots of unmotivated and lazy people on campus, too. >__>; Apparently one of the biggest downfalls of my school is that it's "not a party school." Look, I understand the importance of social life but if the biggest negative aspect of a university is that there's not enough parties... last time I checked, college is for taking courses and furthering your academic career. Perhaps I've been wrong all this time!

Ha, funeral dirge. That's how I felt when walking to some exams, too - it's a funny picture.. like, dress in all black and look down at the ground the entire time.

Thanks regarding the avatars. :) I guess I prefer the clean, sharp look so I didn't want to add too much to them. Small canvases are definitely difficult since you can't add TOO much to them otherwise it's like "...ew." Then again, wallpapers can be challenging for the other reason which is that there's sooo much space to fill.

Oh, I saw your avatars and they're good attempts, so be proud. :D

WOOHOOOOO a request from Biblio~
Yeah no problem, request any time you'd like.

I've.. never heard of that anime before. O__O; Bah, I still have a bunch of anime I need to watch.

The character from my avatar isn't really a real character ^^; Ragnarok Online is a MMORPG so you can create your class/job, etc. So the girl in my avatar is just some random priest character with elven ears equipped and baobaos equipped. I definitely see the similarity though, and it looks cute! :]

From there, I assume you have PS2?
Have you ever heard of "Odin Sphere" and "Grim Grimoire"? Just wondering. I don't know if these games would be of your liking, but they're GORGEOUS! XD

I would appreciate a link to those.

My current resume is pretty short because I haven't had that many jobs, but I do have a pretty good C.V. since I have written a lot of papers and given many presentations over the years.

Vickinator wrote:

Well, from the very brief amount of time I've known you, my personal opinion is that you're very smart and I'm sure many programs would love to have you. :) At the very least, your future plans are very reasonable so I'm sure you'll do fine.

Thank you for your compliments. My self confidence issues all stem from first grade. I had a particularly hateful teacher who would call me stupid (from what I can remember at least) to my face and basically felt that I was dumb. She even implied that to my mother (they had numerous fights about me apperently that I wasn't aware of until now). This was also my math teacher, so I'm pretty sure my dislike for the subject stemmed from there.

No matter how many good grades I get our how many honor societies invite me to become a member of their organization, deep down I never feel worthy of being called intelligent. I also feel like I have to prove that teacher wrong. I'm sure I could get a Ph.D and I would still feel dumb.

Oh well, enough complaining from me. I actually do try to work at increasing my opinion of myself and my level of intellect. It's hard to break five long years of thinking that one is stupid. It wasn't until the sixth grade that I actually started earning very good grades. I was quite shocked at the first report card. All I really needed to was a change in venue. My elementary school was the design of a brilliant idea called "open concept." For those of you lucky enough not understand the term, I'll explain. "Open concept" is a term used to mean: we were too lazy to build walls between the classrooms in this building, so you can just uses arbitrary barriers like portable shelves and coat closest to divide the rooms. We could hear everything going on in other people's classes. I was easily distracted back then so I had a hard time concentrating on what I was doing. It's a wonder anyone learned anything at my school.

Awww, Lunaria, I'm sorry (both about your teacher and for spying on your post, eheheh.) It's awful that any teacher would say that...(and I can understand about getting distracted--I had to take math tests separately from everyone else myself because the noises of the classroom distracted me...that's an, er, odd idea.) but anyways, I really am sorry. You seem really intelligent, though, and I'm sure that whatever graduate school you apply for you'll do well and get in one. Just remember that anyone, especially teachers, who calls another person stupid are really the bad people themselves, because they're stupid enough to not they don't see how that word affects the children, or people of any age, really. :yuusaku:

Thank you both. And biblio, don't worry about post spying. If I didn't want people to read anything I wrote, I wouldn't post it on a public forum.

My mom says that the particular teacher that was such a callous person was burnt out anyway. According to her, the teacher in question was letting her teenage daughters grade our work because she couldn't do it herself.

I was a student teacher myself for a little while, and I always tried to give my students the benefit of the doubt. Of course, I was dealing with older students, but I would never have called anyone of them stupid either. Lazy or unmotivated maybe, but never stupid.

I'm very excited about starting school again. Before I sign up for classes (or apply even) I need to do more research about the programs available. I know I can go into English again and get my masters and start teaching at the college level, but there are other programs to consider as well before I really decide what my career options are.

Again, thank you for your nice compliments. It's nice to know that I come off on these forums as a person with intelligence.

Ok so like woah, I have tons of things to post.

Aliucon: You totally have thanked me enough for the sig! Many people just say "thanks" and never talk to me again, so anything more than that is beyond my usual expectations and makes me very happy. :)

Yep, I have a PS2. I've heard of the title Odin Sphere but never played it or never knew someone who has. I'm assuming it's really good? It's a RPG, right? I'll add that to my list of games to play once I find out more :B
Never heard of Grim Grimoire, but I'll definitely look into it.

Blinq: Ouch.. was your DS okay?! XD
I only have a laptop and it's about 2 years old now. It's not horribly outdated but the graphics card and memory definitely need an upgrade. I'm probably getting a nice desktop for graduation in May so I'm excited to play some games on my brand-spanking-new gaming rig then.

Cherry: You're very welcome. ^^
Yes! I've played Time Hollow. :D I love the theme song.

Lunaria:
Spoiler:
I'll dig the GRE websites up later (will have to sift through bookmarks).

Sorry for the lateness on this..
Anyway, after reading your post about first grade I was horrified >:| Even though it was a traumatizing experience you should never blame yourself or think that you were/are actually stupid. That teacher had MAJOR issues to say such a thing to a young child.

I hear you on the honor society thing. I have received numerous honor society invitations just like you, yet I still feel like it's not enough. However, you seem to have a larger issue... YOU ARE INTELLIGENT. If you have been invited into such things it means you're a hard worker and your hard work has paid off; people are recognizing that.

I'm very glad to hear that you're working at your self-confidence and other things. My best friend had an absolutely horrible opinion of herself for her entire life because of a verbally-abusive father, and she's risen above it all. She's now majoring in dance and has become the director of numerous shows. She changed her ways by becoming more optimistic and more confident - otherwise, not having enough self-confidence can really limit your potential.

And wow, that open concept thing... absolutely dumb. -___-;;
So see, think about focusing on/blaming external factors rather than focusing on internal factors. It seems like you've simply been unfortunately given crappy circumstances regarding that teacher and school situation. It's not your fault.

Your future aspirations (re: masters, etc.) sound great!! I have no doubts that you'll succeed :D

Biblio: Oooh, moar Edgeworth. kk, no problem. :]

Baron: OMG MORE AWESOME. Too bad I have nearly zero experience with constructing things and using tools and such.. I would totally cosplay as Chell for Otakon. Maybe I'll just bring a cake.

Thanks about getting those sites, but don't feel a need to rush on it.

When I tell people about my self doubts I'm usually met with shock because apparently I come across differently than I feel inside. I don't always feel low about myself, but sometimes it gets to me. It used to get me down more when I was younger, but now I know how to deal with it better.

Another problem I have is test anxiety, especially when it comes to high stakes tests like the GRE. The last two tests I had to take at that level were for my teaching certification. Granted, you get to take those tests as many times as you need to in our state, but I don't think I would pursue that career if I were attempting to take a subject exam for the third or fourth time.

I passed both my subject test and my pedagogy and professional responsibilities test the first time. I actually almost got a perfect score on the latter, and I would have done better on the other one but I was violently ill that day and I'm surprised I did so well on the essay portion. Too bad I'm not still in that profession, but I had a feeling going into it that it wasn't right for me, but I tried anyway.

Oh, I replied to your post in my topic if you want to check it out.

Have you started school again?

Thank you, and that is a perfectly acceptable nickname.

Also, I'm not looking for sympathy or for anyone to feel sorry for me, and I apologize if its coming across that way. Still, I appreciate the nice and supportive comments from anyone. And a note to the still in compulsory education forum dwellers, if your teachers says something like that to you, please go and tell your parents are another authorirty figure. Your teacher needs to be reprimanded for their crass speech.

Papermario:

I checked out the forums/website, and it looks good so far. However, one thing that really bothers me about the art page is that you claim that you have low bandwidth space so you cannot post all the graphics we give you (i.e. avatars).

You omitted some of my avatars, which I'm fine with, except that the given reason of "low bandwidth" would easily be remedied if you linked the avatars off-site like on photobucket. Avatars are only a few kb in filesize, so I find it hard to believe that they would take away so much of your possible bandwidth.

In addition, you asked for 800x600 collab images/wallpapers and much larger graphics. How do you expect to host these if you cannot host avatars? :/ I made three wallpapers which are much larger in filesize than an avatar (approx. 600-700kb). If you posted these as links or off-site then you could post them without worrying so much about bandwidth.

I would be upset if I made all this work and you simply picked the "best" out of whatever # I made and discarded the rest. Please think of us and the hard work we put into these. Thanks a bunch.

EDIT: If I sound harsh or anything, that's not my intention. Just expressing a concern of mine. ^^;

Blinq: Haha, sounds good. X3
My laptop is still running fine and in great condition, but I like speed and I want to be at least able to run games on "high" setting instead of on the abysmal "low" setting. >__>; Everything gets so pixel-ly and icky on "low", and I'm sick of it.

Lunaria: I'll check out the post later.
I'm driving back to school tomorrow :) I start Monday. I'm so excited!

Oh ok, I'm happy that you're not in a constant state of low self-confidence/self-esteem. Good for you. *nod*
I used to have test anxiety too.. I hate tests. Being anxious about an exam significantly impacts my score.. so the second time I drove to the GRE test site, I just cranked up the music in my car and relaxed. It really helped me -- I scored over 100 pts higher! o__o; (in addition to studying more, of course)

Why yes, that's absolutely true. I can't believe I didn't notice the difference. *facepalm* Now I feel insanely dumb and selfish; not your fault, Vicki;)

Absolutely sorry Vicki, I'm giving it an update soon, and I bought more bandwidth space today as well.

The wallpapers look awesome! I can't believe their awesomeness. I've already grabbed one and set it as my desktop background:D

Anyways, I'll be adding those pics now:D Please forgive me for the selfish and idiotic mistake:'O

Thanks again for everything you've done Vicki, I truly appreciate it!

[EDIT1] I take no offense in the way you chose your words, it's my fault for not even thinking:S All I was thinking was: "Bandwidth space is 40 MB, can't go over that:O" Anyways, sorry again:D

[EDIT2] Just wondering Vicki, you said I could save space by uploading to a photo page like ImageShack or Photobucket? Do you know how free site making pages work? Cause I have no idea, and if this uploading thing will save me space, I'm willing to try it.

Miss Vicki! :)

I'm so sorry for bothering you. Your newest things are lovely (especially that Hobo-Phoenix signature. I adore the colors!), and I hope you don't mind me requesting something. I know it may be a bit early, but I had an Epiphany earlier tonight:

Spoiler:
KrissiDolly: You know what's nice, though? I was thinking about this. I'm not the antichrist. I'm not some devilish creature, out to take over the world, and I'm not DahliaXKristoph. I'm... a teenage girl. And normally I would hate that, loathe that, think it's an insult, but it's completely true. I like shopping and shoes and classical literature, but I also like guys, and I go to school, do homework, and live my life. I'm a teenage girl, and we all go through these stupid moments of insecurity, and self-doubt, and rampant emotions.

...I'm interested in people, but that's part of who I am. I'm political, and loud, and bossy, but that's who I am, too. I notice little things. I'm an actress, a brillo actress, and I sing well, too, I've heard. I suck at art, though. I'm intelligent, and I sometimes misue that intelligence, but I'm just learning. I'm a writer, and a damn good one, if I do say so myself (and ff3 agrees, so it's not all me).

I don't have all the answers, yet. I'm not sure exactly who I am, yet, though I don't think most people know exactly who they are. It's comforting to know. I keep thinking my life's over.

It hasn't even started yet. :)

Sorry. :)

In any case, I was wondering if you would be so kind as to make me a signature/avatar combination to celebrate. xD. Your graphics always make my day better. They're so pretty. :)

I've been in the Fanart subforum for over a year, so this is .. interesting. >__>;

Papermario: I'm glad we sorted things out :) There's no need to apologize so much - I appreciate your understanding. ^^

I have never used webs.com before so I don't know how the layout/format/etc. works. However, if you're in any way able to type in a field then you should be able to simply link to graphics off-site. You can use HTML (I'm guessing that's what the site uses? No idea...) links that Photobucket provides.
ex. A hyperlink that describes what the image is so people know what characters are on the graphics before clicking on them
Wallpaper of Haruhi, Nagato, and Asahina (This is using BBCode, though, because forum code is different from websites)

My suggestion is that you don't need to link off-site for the avatars because the filesize is so small. However, for the larger collab pictures and signatures you may want to consider making like a designated "Haruhi forum graphics" Photobucket account and storing them there.

Photobucket is great because you get 25GB for monthly bandwidth :D

If you need more help, let me know. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help - never used free site-making pages before.

DxK: Sure ^^ Don't ever think that you're bothering me. In fact, I appreciate it tons when the most appreciated and well-mannered people keep coming back for more graphics :)
Thanks for the compliments! :]

Baron and Ema: Oh, nice! I need to look for these when I play Portal over.
Hmmm.. unfortunately, I don't know of many. :/ Most of my brushes were given to me by a friend. >o<;
Here's some off the top of my head (they should be a good start):

Hi Vicky, I was wondering if you could make me an awesome avatar and signature like the others that you have made. I haven't read the whole thread so I'm not sure if I should be requesting at this time. I'm just not sure if i should be... Maybe its just my paranoia. :eh?:

Anyway, If you are taking requests I would like please :

Avatar

No text thanks!

Image: I dont actually have a link to it but the image is on Court Records: Its the one of Klavier Gavin laughing with his head down. Its one of the sprites. PM me should i need to find a link.

Any prefered size?: 200x200 please.

Colour Scheme : Royal Blue.

Extras : Stars mainly and some swirls but no hearts please.

Signature

Text: Ja, Herr Forehead.

Image : The same one of Klavier Gavin as mentioned in the Avatar on the right of the signature and also one on the left of Apollo Justice when he is blushing. Once again, should I have to provide a link, PM me and I will find one for you.

Any prefered Size?: 600x200. Thats the biggest allowed on Court Records, right?

Colour Scheme: Royal Blue like the avatar thanks.

Extras?: Stars and swirls again please.

Thanks!

Papermario: The art page looks great! I'm glad you were able to make it work. :)
In the future I'd be happy to lend a hand and make any banners for any contests, events, etc. if needed.

Selom: Welcome to my thread! :)
Anyone can request any time you'd like as long as they are well-mannered and patient.
I've added you to the waitlist below; thanks for stopping by. ^^

Oh, and for the sig, 600x200 is the maximum but if you want to include like a line of text beneath an image, that counts as part of the sig max too so I'll make your signature slightly smaller, just in case.

Sounds Fishy: Haha, long time no see! :)
I'd be happy to make those avatars for you -- unfortunately I may not be able to fit "by vickinator" on them but I'll put my initials somewhere on them. ^__^

Re: graphics as a profession
Unfortunately, no. I'm currently in college and my major is Psychology (far from graphic design). I chose Psychology as my intended field because I felt like I could make more of a difference and get involved in business/human resources this way. IRL I'm normally a very quiet person because I like to observe others and attempt to understand human behavior/motivation/etc. :)
In addition, every single Psychology course I've had so far has been fascinating, so I suppose this is right for me! o_o;

However, I intend on continuing graphic design as a hobby or a side job in the future. There's never anything wrong with trying to get some extra money on the side. :)

Thanks for thinking that I could do this professionally. ^^;
I never really hear that from people so I'm really flattered when people ask about it as a future career.

Vickykins: Welcome back! XD
Just to clarify, this is for a regular website so there's no size restrictions (like on CR, the max is 600x200), right? I just want to make sure. ^^

And YAY, I love that picture of Link!! I've used that one before for a friend's sig because she's a big fan of the Zelda series. ^__^

Yuzikichan: That was very kind of you!! I'll add you as a affiliate, too.

That's when I prefered to take my classes as well. The earlier I could get done in the morning or the early afternoon, the better. However, with my major and minor that was not always an option. My last two semesters had me taking a combination of late morning, early afternoon, early evening, and night classes.

At our school it was divided up like this MWF, morning classes every fifty minutes until 1 pm. Then after one they were MW hour and half classes. Tue/Thur was all one and half hour classes until 2:30 which then became three hour classes (same thing happened on MW as well).

And WOW! I had a feeling you would be good at something like Psychology - after all, making things like you do is an interpretation of someone else's wants and feelings, right? I wish you so much luck with that ^_^

I know what you mean too - people-watching is fun :redd: I want to be a novelist when I'm older, so I guess understanding motives and how attitudes affect descision is also an important thing :)

If you let this talent of yours die, I will personally stalk you and....steal your PW games. :franny:

BaronandEma: Sure! I'd love to be of some assistance.

VK: That sounds so neat :) More than a few years ago I had a friend from Brazil.. but unfortunately we lost contact with each other.

Lunaria: That last semester sounds crazy. Luckily I'm only taking two set-schedule classes this semester, and they're back-to-back. :) My other credits consist of a research course in which I only need to meet with my professor once every two weeks or so, and then an internship at my school's career center.

What annoys me the most about schedules is when you have like, one hour gaps in between classes. That one hour gap just serves an annoying purpose (unless you have 6 classes in a row, that's fine, because then you can at least have a little break) because it's not enough time to study or get anything really productive done.

I like having blocks of classes and then the rest of the day is clear. :)

I think I'm free a little later so I'm going to try to get back to your thread. Oy, sorry for the delays.

Fishy: Yes! You said the same exact thing my advisor said about my graphic design business - that I'm using elements of psychology when attempting to understand what the requester would want.

Good luck with the novelist aspirations -- I admire anyone who wants to go into writing and other related fields. :)

Oh noooo, not my PW GAMES! Good thing I won't let it die. :B

And omg, your stuff is awesome! You're VERY good at blending! Kudos :D

Yes, having an hour or even an hour and half between classes is annoying. All I ever did during that time is eat and talk to my classmates. I'm just glad that most of my classes didn't have traditional exams or I would have never been able to to study for them properly. Most of my late afternoon and early evening classes were workshops, so we only turned in work and discussed it.

Take your time, Vicki. I can wait for a reply if you need to put other graphics and school first.

Good luck with picking a research topic. That is always a tricky task for me. I liked it when the professors would give us examples of paper topics to choose from, but would also let us pick our own upon approval. Of course, our papers weren't research papers. All we had to do was go through a novel or a few short stories and prove our thesis statement, which is still quite a challenge considering the subjective nature of literature.

I bet Psychology text books are expsensive. English majors have it good for the most part. At my school more professors assigned novels in their classes, so you could go to any bookstore and buy them.

Sophmore English classes usually had anthologies, but as an English major none of those courses were required (I think they were only for the minor levels or if you just needed an extra credit and the course plan didn't specify upper division).

I think I only had two junior level classes that used an anthology. Both of them were surveys of literature, so we read a wide variety of short stories and novels in them.

The only time that having a different book than the professor became a problem was if you dealt with a translated work. Then you made sure to get the version the professor had. Otherwise, you might be a little lost come to exam time.

I always hated it when the professor had a different publication of a novel and would expect you to just find the quotes they were looking for immediately. If I ever teach upper division literature, I'll make sure not to torture my students with that because it justs wastes class time. Either that or I'll make a printout of the important quotes at the end of the novel. I don't know, I guess it will depend on what is the normal practice at the school I end up working at.

Wow, I'm really verbose today. I start officially working again this week after having a week off. Our school started last week, but the first week is really about getting through the syllabus and the course requirements/procedures. This week the real work begins. Oh, if I've never mentioned it here before, I should probably tell you that I'm a Supplemental Instruction leader at the community college I attended. I'm almost like a teaching assistant, but I don't grade papers. I basically review course material with the students so that they understand it better. The course I work with is online, so I help divide up the work so it goes at a better pace than say cramming all the work in before the exam. It's the second composition course, so it involves paper writing and reading of short stories, plays, and poems. It is a really fun job, but can be a lot of work sometimes.
