EDIT: You can now watch a video of some of the rehearsal on youtube.

The opera's opening night is close to a week away. While we can't offer you tickets to see singing, dancing, female lawyers, we can share some of the images from their website.

I would think that Japanese Feminist is an oxymoron.

But yes, she is on the small side. Edgeworth is not supposed to be taller than his/her subordinate.

wut.

I am also going to assume that when they say opera, they are seriously trying to make this some sort of decent musical production, so I doubt people will be picked based on whether or not they look like fucking Gumshoe. It's not like some kind of goofy cosplay festival. Besides, isn't this a troupe? If it is then I'd assume that these are already established singers and they're just dressing them up to play the role.

I was just joking. I know every culture has stereotypes, but not everyone in the culture comforms to them. I guess I should have put my line in the sarcasm tag or put /joke after it. Damn you Internet and your cursed inability to accurately reproduce vocal inflection on words typed by another person.

That being said, the group that is putting on this production seems to be taking it very seriously from what I can tell. We can't expect them to get everything perfect. However, I still think it is funny that Gumshoe is shorter than Edgeworth. I'm not certain, but the actresses for the lead characters might be ones who often play the leading roles. Kind of like in Shakespeare's time certain actors always played certain kinds of roles.

Vapid, yes I can see why you would say that. It's not a very biting or stern joke. Hell, it wasn't even that well thought out.

I think if anyone came up to any woman and said those words when asking her if she could play Gumshoe, they'd either get punched in the face or kicked in the nuts.

I hope that by "feminist" you don't mean "lesbian" or some other caricature of 'manly woman'. You might want to reconsider your use of that word. All sorts of women are feminists whether they're big, small, masculine or feminine, gay or straight.

That aside, I don't think I like the "Johnnies" look for Phoenix. It's so antiethical to the vibe of the series itself. :meekins:

Edit: Is that.... is that a mullet Phoenix's got?? :beef:

Phoenix definitely has Engarde's hair, which by consequence makes him look like an 80s British rockstar.

I think s/he looks kind of hot too.

Phoenix's suit doesn't look like it fits him/her well? It looks too big, but maybe they were going for that look because Phoenix can't afford to get his suits tailored.

It's all woman because the company that is putting on the production is an all female Opera company. It's a tradition of the group to have all female actors.

I've got a friend who is a huge fan of Takarazuka and friends with TI Project, a group of people who subtitle it, so this is what she's told me.

Takarazuka is notoriously strict about their DVD sales-- absolutely no bootlegging is allowed, so the subbing group cannot copy the official DVDs. The TI Project group only sells DVDs that they record off of television broadcasts. So in order for them to work on the PW show, it needs to be performed on Sky Stage-- the stage for the television company that broadcasts the shows.

LUCKILY there is a Sky Stage logo on the rehearsal video. That means IT IS A VERY GOOD BET THAT THE PW SHOW WILL BE SHOWN ON TELEVISION.

So if you want to see the PW Takarazuka show, here is the process that will happen to get it translated and available for us to buy.

1. The PW show gets broadcast on television, and recorded.

2. http://ti-project.livejournal.com/ subtitles the show and offers it for sale.

This group does NOT make a profit off of the DVDs, the cost is only that of the DVD plus shipping. So roughly $5-7.

If anybody has any questions about how they might get a copy of the musical eventually, please let me know and I can ask my buddy.

Sorry to beat a dead horse -- but I think the actress for Gumshoe is perfect. : D They were all cast well, in my opinion. Especially Larry.

That's awesome (possible) news about the TI Project subbing the (possible) video (possibly)! And for a really good price, too. Thanks for letting us know.

How long is it running in Japan? Does anyone know?
I'm not sure if it says so on the website. I don't read any kind of foreign language. Unfortunately.
Kay, you might want to tone the ruffling down a bit.
