Ah, but did you have either the same, or higher, stats than I have at the moment?

Yeah, that tends to take the longest when it comes to increasing, obviously...

Also, when you say "Not up to par", do you mean at THIS moment? Or back before you beat the game?

^^Both. Every time I try to master pins, they keep evolving. It's so annoying.

I know I will be stoned for this, but who do you prefer, Joshie or Sho?

Use twewy.wikia.com to see which PP makes them evolve, so you can avoid that PP.

Sho's math-talk is really funny, but I'll take a protagonist over an antagonist any day.

I prefer Sho, myself... Joshua's just too cocky for my tastes... Sho is as well, but Joshua's just "Zetta-Cocky"...

Got the game about a week ago - now I beat the final regular boss (not the bonus one or whatever may come when replaying) I'm hooked. I hope those Special Reports clear something up.

I was wondering, which level were you at when you beat the last regular boss? There were two times I started massive EXP grinding, one of them was from level 25 to 35... when I got beat by Sho. I almost had him, but still, instead of kicking Easy in, I decided to level up ten times. The other time was from 40 to 50 when I got beat by the last GM... the Iron Maiden, I forget her name. Just because I didn't know how to use that fancy pin. And because I didn't have my beloved healing pins. Then I fumbled around a bit in that last phase and figured it out. And then... I cruised past all the other bosses without using one heal. Awkward moment at the ending thinking: "Wait a second... that was the last one? Did I overlevel AGAIN? (A bad habit, whenever I seem stuck, I power up abdundantly and ram the opposition into the ground) Bah." So I finished the game in seven days. But somehow, when I go to SAVE, my total play time doesn't display. Is that not in the Euro version?

Spoiler: Question regarding endgame
Just to see if I get this right.

Joshua is the Composer, Shades is the Conductor, and Mr. H is the Producer? Because it seems like that from reading the first few Reports.

Sho. By FAR. Joshua is just a... meh, I don't have the words I need... just someone I don't like. Add to the equotation that Sho is my second-favorite character in the entire game (second only to Hanekoma) and it's fairly obvious.

The McD

P.S. I like the word "Windfall" too.

I think you can see your play time if you press L and R at the save screen.

Leveling up doesn't do too much in TWEWY, since it only increases HP, not ATK/DEF. Yes, it does make it easier, but not as much as in traditional RPGs.

Me too, but I mean the stat boost you get when leveling up, not the HP restoration in the particular battle in which it happens.

Thanks. I just checked it and found out I beat the game in 14 hours... is that fast?

The main reason I keep leveling up is a combination of the HP boost, more stat boosts (more levelups -> more fights -> more food digested -> boosts) and to raise my HP for that Quest Item you get from Lapin Angelique... the one that gives you regeneration. More HP equals more regeneration.

Ditto. Sho in Week Two was hard. Real hard. And that fight is the reason I love Someday so much... gives me memories of the two times I fought. Both fights were real close and it all came down to 10% of the green life bar for both. One time he won, one time I did.

Spoiler: Week Three
Not to mention Taboo Sho. I never even got his yellow life down... not even by half. STOP TELEPORTING SO I CAN SLICE YOU TO BITS! And my seven healing uses (4 x 50% + 3 x 30% + Brand Bonus = A lot of healed HP) kept me alive for a while, but not long enough. Hope I can win the rematch.

Miniamoto by far. I called Joshua 'Mr. Shithead' for all of Week 2.
Spoiler: End of Game
But I stopped after finding out that he's the Composer.

I think Sho in Week 2 is the hardest boss in the game. It took me a few tries to beat him, and when I did, my HP bar was really low and I had used up my healing pin. The difficulty level dropped a lot in Week 3 in comparison.

I defeated the last boss at......... level 98, I think. I kept leveling up and stuff because I thought enemies had set levels, like in most other games. In addition, that pushed my play time through the roof.

Between Sho and Joshua: tie. I can't pick. Sho was awesome as a character, and I like how it ended for him (I died laughing at the irony), but when I fought him, both times, he kept getting on my nerves. Joshua was an ass, I admit, but as a partner he had his perks, like his awesome attacks, plus the great revelations about him at the end.

I'd say Joshua is better, partially because he's so damn hilarious in Another Day.

Also because he's fun and playable, also because I want his damn God phone.

Miniamoto was zetta cool but to me he'll always be a big geek inside and I think he's kinda overrated. :yuusaku:

I gave it a rent. I want my 8 bucks back. Theres far too much dialogue and not enough story, if that makes sense at all. also the combat is ultra-confusing. think Kingdom Hearts on the GBA.

But the little interactions between all the characters are so nice and fun! :edgy: (But I'm one of those ppl who don't mind text adventure games and a lot of reading, so....yeah....)

And combat is not ultra-confusing. At least, not if you keep at it. Yes, concentrating on two screens at once is difficult, and yes, it's different, but it's really not that bad. (Especially with button-mashing! :D)

Smeh. When you pick up a game like Phoenix Wright, you know it's going to be a lot of dialogue (or at least it becomes apparent pretty quickly). But even if you don't mind text-heavy gaves like Phoenix Wright, you might still prefer your action-RPGs to not be too wordy.

Heehee Kingdom Hearts WAS on GBA and it was great, the combat just takes getting used to.
Though for me RPG's need to be wordy, it's the trademark of a good story for me if it has an enthralling plot with words galore :garyuu: Even better if it can be adapted into a novel.

That would be pretty cool if TWEWY became a novel, but even better if it became an anime.

I don't think a novel. I wouldn't really like it if it was an anime that had the same events of the game, since we've already experienced them, but perhaps a few Games in Shibuya either a few years before or after TWEWY, or a Game in a different area.

No, I mean, like, a spinoff, probably focusing on the Reapers. That would be pretty cool, actually.

I didn't mean specifically Twewy becoming a novel just some I like for heavy-story adventures. I liked the Metal Gear Solid Novel but if TWEWY was made into an anime it could allow for more intense fight sequences and extra storyline and also more insight into the reapers if you like.

I finished this game yesterday. I was unimpressed. Overall, I enjoyed a lot of the game's components; I got used to the battle system, liked using pins, the food and thread system were cool, and the story was bearable until the end. In my opinion the ending was fairly half assed.

Spoiler:
In regards to the ending, I hated how they built up Mr. H a ton when he had very little to do with Neku other than the fact that he was CAT. Had he done a little more as Mr. H himself, I would have bought Neku's respect for him a lot more. After all of that build up, and all of that dialog talking about how much Mr. H had changed Neku and such, Mr. H isn't even in the ending of the game. He doesn't make an appearance at all, and that was pretty ridiculous.

Another thing I had an issue with was all of the repetitive dialog. I swear, Beat and Neku had the same conversation every day of the last game. "I'VE GOTTA SAVE RHYME BUT I SUCK." "Screw you Beat, screw you. You're good and you should save Rhyme, but screw you." and it goes on and on and on.

Joshua being the composer was kind of a cop out too. He shows up, acts like a dick and you think he killed Neku. Then you think Sho killed Neku and that Joshua's actually a nice guy. Then it turns out that he's really the composer and a dick and that he killed Neku. And then Neku comes back to life and has friends. The end. Essentially Joshua's a judgmental douche bag who put Neku through a ton of shit just to see if he shouldn't "shut down" Shibuya. What the hell does "shutting down" Shibuya entail? Was he going to kill everyone? So in the end, Joshua still runs everything and will probably continue being a dick for the rest of his days. They seriously could have thought of something better than that ='/

Also Sho and his math puns were stupid. Seriously if you want a homicidal, power hungry maniac, don't have him running around spouting "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally." He was about as threatening as Sesame Street.

Spoiler:
A lot of Neku's respect comes from the fact that Mr. H is CAT. Mr. H made a very small appearance right after Neku and Joshua's game, but he didn't appear besides that because he really didn't have a place in the ending, just being the Producer.

Yeah, 3rd week was kinda week in that way. But those days went by pretty quickly, and just because the dialogue in a few days wasn't as good as the other days isn't that bad.

Yes, Joshua wanted to shut down Shibuya (although I have no idea what that would mean). It ends when Neku has come back to life (which was his main objective) and has friends (from the Game), and Joshua is still in control because no one beat him, and didn't destroy Shibuya b/c of what happened.. The only other option would've been to make Neku the Composer by beating Joshua (I'm not even considering having Neku lose the Game and staying dead >.>) That would've been interesting, but I think this ending is fine, too.

If I remember correctly, Sho said "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" in Another Day, where he wasn't a villain! But seriously, that was just to emphasize the fact that he was a crazy genius guy. I mean you can always have the generic all-black-wearing evil-laughing dark-and-brooding puppy-kicking villain, but I think Sho's personality works too xD

I liked week 3 best actually you get to see more of the reapers and don't have to put up with Shiki's whining.

Also if you want to know the deal with Mr H collect the secret reports alot of the stuff is explained....though I'm still not sure why Josh rebuilt it. :yuusaku:

That's stupid. You shouldn't have to do a side quest and read random blocks of text to find out something that should have been part of the regular plot anyway.

Also, Shiki was a lot more bearable than Beat towards the end. She always called Neku out for being a dick to everyone; Beat just repeated himself over and over again.
Spoiler:
Shiki's entrance fee was probably the most unexpected decent "twist" in the game anyway. The only thing I really liked about the ending is that you get to see what she actually looks like.

Overall, the game started with a decent concept but fell short of its potential. It would have been a lot better had it been a bit more open ended. The entire plot seems to revolve around the choices Neku makes. I would have enjoyed it a lot more had I been able to make those choices myself. There were a few shining instances that they allowed you to do things similar to that. Like when you're rushing through Shibuya during week 3 and you're able to decide whether or not you'll help people being attacked by noise. I liked that, there should have been a lot more of that.
Spoiler:
I probably would have liked the ending a lot more had I been able to actually play Joshua's game at the end. I woulda shot that muthafuckah.

Not really... Do you really think...
Spoiler: MAJOR secret report spoilers
Mr. H would just randomly say, "Hey Neku! I'm an angel, but don't tell anyone that because I'm a fallen angel and I was the one who taught Minamimoto about Taboo noise."

Ya plus when you see the contents of the secret reports a lot of it is quite complex, all this stuff about differing levels of existance and frequencies and stuff I can't think it would've fitted in so well to the main story if they had to slow everything down while Neku took down notes so he understood perfectly how the different levels worked. It just wouldn't work to include it all as part of the main story.

A lot of point and click stuff do that. Considering they can't fit a lot of the complex information into the main dialogue between the characters, they stick like hidden notes as items to read.

Actually. Kingdom Hearts does that with the Ansem Reports.

xD Exactly I'd be surprised if it was difficult to spot that connection. Maybe the folk just like that sorta thing.

Spoiler:
They could have easily worked something like that into the laughably empty ending. See I didn't even know that and it's already more interesting than I initially thought. That would have made a perfect addition to the main storyline. They could have replaced a few of the repetitive dialog scenes with that. It's also still very awkward to build up Hanekoma at the end of the game only to have him not appear in it at all.

I dunno, I guess I just hate it when something forces you into a certain way of thinking only to disprove everything they set up to reveal everything was how you initially thought it to be. I always had my doubts about Joshua and Mr. H, but stopped thinking about it that way when the writers went so out of their way to prove me wrong.

And other person, Kingdom Hearts is hardly the standard in games with awesome plots.

Kingdom Hearts has fine plot, the first game couldn't survive on gameplay alone thats for sure but if you think that the ending could condense over 20 pages worth of story into it without dragging on or seeming worse then your a fool.

FURTHERMORE! The Secret Reports are written along a timeline, they are written from the point of view of the current day of the report (Week two day one would only talk about that day and events prior) so they couldn't be included into the ending as they were restricted by time.

Spoiler: The Way Pickens would have it
Joshua: Right Neku we're going to play a game *hands Neku a gun*
Mr H: Hey hold on kids I've still got some explaining to do.
Joshua: Can't it wait?
Mr H: NOOOOOPE now lets see back at day one I was thinking about.....

*15 minutes later*

Mr H: On Week 3 Day one I was concerned about the composer....
Neku: It...It's not worth it....*shoots self*

Besides the plot twists and stuff are good even if it was what you originally thought....that the game could dissuade you from your first impressions is evidence of it's wonderful plot.

Spoiler: The Way Pickens Would Have it
Neku: OH SHIT IT'S SHADES GUY! I'M GONNA KILL 'EM!
Mr. H: DON'T WORRY NEKU! IMMA HELP YOU! *ACTIVATE WING ZERO!*
*battle*
Shades Guy: I want what Mithos from Tales of Symphonia wanted! *dead*
Neku: Wait, so it's over? Was that guy the composer or are you the composer or what?
Mr. H: What? He's quite obviously dead and I'm a normal ass guy. You were the composer ALL ALONG.
Neku: Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

The End

Fitting within the normal confines of the story though, you could have easily shoehorned a flashback or something with H teaching Sho about Taboo noise or something and then have him show up and at least do something at the end. Deleting him from the ending altogether was a huge mistake after you make him out to be such a big deal. It would be fine to describe the details of such things in an outside source, but describing the motives and actions of a character (especially one that seems to be kind of important) entirely through those is a terrible idea.

Of course the fact that I'm still talking about the game's plot after I've beaten means that I liked parts of it. In fact like followed and enjoyed most of it until the ending, where I thought it went to crap.

Spoiler:
But the only thing that's important is that Mr. H taught Sho about Taboo noise, not how to make Taboo noise. A flashback showing that would be boring and take a lot longer than just sayhing Mr. H taught Sho about the Taboo noise.

Neku being Cmposer would've been interesting, but then you have the question of why? As much as you might not have liked Josh's and Megumi's game, it provided a why for the entire game. There really wouldn't be any reason for the Composer to turn him into a normal person and get rid of his powers. Plus he gets his memory back in week 2, so he would've remembered if he was Composer.

And while Mr. H could've been in the ending, he couldn't really have done more than say hi. Also, if you collect all the Secret Reports, an extra scene with Mr. H will be added to the ending.

Spoiler:
Like Bad Player said Mr H does get a little showing in the ending, hell it's even fully voice acted. And Mr H was a big deal but his importance is subtle it becomes especially apparent in the secret reports though I didn't. Had Hanaekoma shown up I'd have felt kinda robbed, I did suspect he was a higher power of some sort but if he'd shown up and been almighty I'd be disappointed in not being allowed to finish him myself especially since the ending allowed to show the ultimate control Josh and Mr H had over everything. Though the ending had me confused as to why Josh DID decide to rebuild the city despite saying it was the end, the big twist that Shibuya would be destroyed was throughly satisfying for me.
