Actually I think this is a sign of the times (and how sad they are). At least around where I live, people don't even really expect you to be overly friendly to them, unless you're already friends. They do expect that you'll at least have manners and treat them good like anyone else, but they do not expect the personal warmth that comes with more friendly people. So when you are friendly to someone, it can seem like something's up.
This is diametrically opposed to how things are in the American South, according to my US Govt. & Politics teacher. He lived in the South for a while and said people he didn't even know always waved to him as he drove by, and he was bewildered by it because he had never gotten that kind of reception before, never having lived in the South. Then again you always hear about that "Southern hospitality." The northern "Yankees" aren't really known for that :P

I think you're onto something there, George. Speaking for myself, I was used to being ignored, teased, or hated. The best status I could usually hope for was "benign acquaintance". Friends were rare and close friends extremely so. So when a lady took any pains whatsoever to make me feel valued and convinced me that her intentions were genuine, it often wasn't too long before I started to fall for her. And that made it hurt all the more when she'd start pulling away--especially if there was any fear or disgust in her reaction. I guess...if you don't want romantic notions to enter a guy's head, try not to be warm with him. I hate to say that, but it's probably true. The balance to strike would be "cool"--just warm enough to where he knows you don't hate him.

I used to joke around with my friends brother and we'd play on the Playstation all the time and have great banter. But after a while I noticed he wasn't as playful anymore and was a bit ... distant.
Anywho I found out it was because he really liked me and I felt so awful because I didn't like him that way (until about a year later after he'd got a gf LOL). And we've never really spoken properly since.
And this is also why I physically can't speak to males because I don't what I can and can't say
But yeah, don't be too friendly coz you don't want your heart broken or vice versa.

This reminds of this girl I went to school with. We were in a creative writing class together, and she would also comment on my works saying that my character woulnd't know what certain words mean, so I shouldn't use them. She was just a total uptight bitch. She thought she was better than everyone because she was in the Honor's program and we weren't.
Speaking of people finding someone annoying, I posted on my Livejournal last night and got some random person sending me a message on AIM. This is the second time it has happened. They said something weird, like "Why did you steal my hat?" I had no clue what was going on and responded as such. Then they said, "What do you expect me to say to someone I don't know." I told him basically something that makes sense like, "Hello, LJ made me send you this message, or something along those lines." Then this random person said something about me attacking him and I was not in his guild (I'm assuming it's a man because of the language patterns the person used). I simply asked how I was attacking him (maybe he thought my suggestion of how to talk to someone you don't know was an attack) and he replied with "I'm ignoring you, your verily annoying" or something lame like that. I said "same to you, dude" and added just to annoy the person more "It's you're are not your" because I like to correct the grammar of random annoying strangers on the Internet.

Speaking of people finding someone annoying, I posted on my Livejournal last night and got some random person sending me a message on AIM. This is the second time it has happened. They said something weird, like "Why did you steal my hat?" I had no clue what was going on and responded as such. Then they said, "What do you expect me to say to someone I don't know." I told him basically something that makes sense like, "Hello, LJ made me send you this message, or something along those lines." Then this random person said something about me attacking him and I was not in his guild (I'm assuming it's a man because of the language patterns the person used). I simply asked how I was attacking him (maybe he thought my suggestion of how to talk to someone you don't know was an attack) and he replied with "I'm ignoring you, your verily annoying" or something lame like that. I said "same to you, dude" and added just to annoy the person more "It's you're are not your" because I like to correct the grammar of random annoying strangers on the Internet.
Hahaha that's so weird! Someone added me on msn the other day and when I signed on I got "who are you" "what year are you in" and "do you have a brother". She asked me what year I was in about 4 times. But I don't know where they got my e-mail from..... I asked if she was from CR but she was just like "???"
Oh and when arguing with someone on the internet, correcting their grammar is very fun, shuts them up.

What year are you in. I guess they thought you were still in high school? When that happens here (what grade are you in for us?) sometimes we says grade 13 because our system only goes up to 12. I always got annoyed when someone would ask me that after I had already graduated high school.
I'm sure that person is telling all his friends how annoying I was too. Oh well, such is life.
Correcting people's grammar is real life can be fun too, but you have to be careful who you do that too.
