But we're still lacking characters from the main games, right?
I'm really wondering how they are coming along since I will need a bunch of them for my game.

With most people resuming school now, the creation of characters for pwlib really slowed down a lot.

But it is nice to recall how painful it was in the past to align the sets, THEN code their animations. So nowadays with the gif to sheet, making chars is way easier (I would say less time consuming).

Normally posting on this topic (or DeMatador's) the character(s) you need might get it(them) done earlier then expected.

As I recall, we have most of the main chars done.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People, asking for what you need is the best way you can ever get something done quickly. The same goes to anything related to PWLib: if you get an MP3 playback issue (eg. it doesn't play), don't wait someone have the same issue and post.

Both the programs required for AIGE to run were made by Microsoft (DirectX and the Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Redistributable), so the trust goes to Microsoft.

Most games with installs automatically install all needed dependencies when you install the game itself, all silently. Since PWLib does not come with an installer, it must be done manually.

I'm considering shipping AIGE with the redist installer packed in (I decided to ship it with the d3dx dll already).

Yeah, that's what you need Twister. Also you probably already have the latest version of DirectX installed if you've played any games released in the last half a year. Make sure you pickup the tutorial on the first page of this thread if you do download and use PWLib, it's a great help.. also remember if there's anything you can't figure out we're all here to help on this thread :]

That is required due to the fact that ANY (I mean ANY) C/C++ program compiled with Visual Studio 2005 SP1 (on other versions you have different versions of the redistribuable) requires some runtimes. Microsoft stuff.

I tried switcing to Visual Studio 2008 SP1, but the resulting exe was slower on the benchmarking (from ~20200 to ~18000/19000), so the idea was scrapped (so we won't need to install a new version of the redist when 1.2, and AIGE 800a, gets released).

Normally DirectX install itself automatically. It depends the pack you got on Microsoft's site.

--------------------
Lt. Morke, bugs were found: the create function won't create franny, but simply load her textures. The namebox function is wongly placed. I fixed it here, but you might want to re-released for 1.1.

Microsoft's stuff. Only if your Windows is original.

The web installer will only install what you don't have (including the d3dx dlls needed).

KSA, Do you think you could provide either a link to a plugin to fix it so Mozilla can view PDFs. OR You can put a link to a text version of the tutorial.
Which ever you would rather do. So, do you think you could do one or the other? Please?

That's where the tutorial comes in handy. It's a PDF file, which means it's viewable in Adobe Acrobat.. Foxit Reader.. any number of free PDF readers (even some web browsers). The link for it is here.

Also, while not mandatory, i'd suggest getting a better text editor, at the moment i'm using Notepad++ which has lots of helpful features when coding. The link for that is here.

Also, as I said earlier, if you don't understand anything, feel free to ask on here, we're all pretty helpful people :]

Edit: Just read your post now.. i'm pretty sure to read PDFs in Firefox you need to have Adobe acrobat reader installed anyway.. it installs it's own plugin for Firefox.

Strange. I thought thats what it was suppose to do. And what do you mean by wrongly placed? I left the upper part (down to //bow) the same, so thats probably why I didn't see anything.

There's an addon for firefox called PDF Download that asks if you want to download or open the pdf on firefox. [url]addons.mozilla.org[/url].

With it, download the pdf to the pc and open it directly. Best option (like it should be when using the tutorial book).

Lt. Morke, the animations were been created inside the setnamebox function for franny, instead of inside the create function. Something simple to fix.

Your file:
Code:
[pw_createfranziska]
runscript("pw_loadfranziskafiles");

//Franziska Namebox
[pw_setnameboxtofranziska]
recfunctionname([pw_nameboxfunc]);
setmsgboxtickersound("sfx-blipfemale.wav");
setgenobjgraphic("pwnamebox",112);
setgenobjtexturecoordinates("pwnamebox",50,434,50,14);
showgenobj("pwnamebox");

//Bow
createanimation("Franziska_Bow",0);
insertanimationframe("Franziska_Bow",1,910,15);
...

Perrydotto, simply post the list of characters you need. I'll let you know the ones on your list that are already done.

Well.. i'm pretty sure this hasn't been released before.. either way, i've just uploaded a PW sound bite pack. It contains the following:

Phoenix Wright
  • Objection!
  • Take That!
  • Hold It!

Winston Payne
  • Objection!

Miles Edgeworth
  • Objection!
  • Take That!
  • Hold It!

Manfred Von Karma
  • Objection!

Franziska Von Karma
  • Objection!

Mia Fey
  • Objection!
  • Take That!
  • Hold It!

Godot
  • Objection!

Apollo Justice
  • Objection!
  • Take That!
  • Hold It!
  • Gotcha!

Kristoph Gavin
  • Objection!

Klavier Gavin
  • Objection!

As far as i'm aware, this is a complete set of sound bites for characters from Gyakuten Saiban 1~4 (correct me if i'm wrong).
They're all the highest quality versions I could find (most ripped from the roms themselves) and all encoded in mp3 (no need for ogg on sound effects).

The link to it is here. Just like my music packs, these are all royalty free (in other words, you don't have to mention me if you use them) however if you feel like giving me an honorable mention, I would be happy :]

I'll add them as part of PWLib 1.2.

Also I just had an idea: include all languages voices as well, and make PWLib change them dynamically (would be good for those wanting to make a game in other languages).

I absolutely agree, since my planned game will be made in German and translated into English. If the voices can be changed dynamically, it would be a whole lot easier.
Would it be possible then to easily change the voice clips with a simple command or would I have to change every file name manually?

I'll add a couple of functions that will play the voice according to the language you specify earlier.

Something like:

pw_setbaselang("en");
...
pw_playpwobjection(); //plays Phoenix Wright's Objection! sound.

------------
But to begin I will need all available language's voice packs.

Ah, now I've got it. Thank you very much for clearifying! Yes, that would make translating a game a whole lot easier. Will the sounds be accompanied by the according speech bubble? (Like "Einspruch" instead of the English "Objection")

I can do that too. It is just define a couple of functions, really.

Together with AIGE's Message Base System, making multi-lang games (switchable mid-game!!) might be a piece of cake with PWLib.
