It wasn't that bad. I enjoyed myself. If you go in there ready to nitpick EVERYTHING, you'll hate it, but if you go in with an open mind and the thought "This is just a movie based loosely on DB" then you'll enjoy yourself. I went with my friend who fucking nitpicked everything and it got annoying ("PICCOLO DOESN'T HAVE ANTENNA! WHERE'S TIEN?! YAMCHA DOESN'T TALK LIKE THAT! BULMA DOESN'T USE WEAPONS! THIS DOESN'T FOLLOW THE STORY AT ALL" etc. etc. etc).

But it was enjoyable and atleast they sorta got the personalities right (Goku is some socially awkward kid who doesn't really know anything, Bulma being all techy, Roshi being a perv, Piccolo being...well, Piccolo, etc.).

Overall, I'll give it a 7/10.

>_>

I mostly agree. If you see it as a separate film, it's worth a 7/10, but if you base it on DragonBall, then it's worth a 4/10.

If it doesn't follow the anime it's based on, it may as well say "based on Dragonball" on the bottom.

Exactly. Don't be going in there with high expectations. Just enjoy it for what it is.

true. i guess i know what you mean about how if you base it on the REAL dragon ball it's shitty, and i know that, but a part of me says ack, who gives, i hate american wanabees. sooo...i absolutely refuse to watch it. just my opinion.

Again, I mostly agree with the point:

I watched it, but I got an illegal copy 1 day before it premiered. I won't pay more than 5 bucks to see what I saw.

itt people try to defend an awful adaptation by using nonreal arguments

i mean really, "lol don't compare it to the source material"? are you kidding me?

Not kidding. The arguments are real. I don't want to defend the film, it was awful.

What I tried to say, and it looks you didn't understand, is that, as an awful adaptation to DragonBall, the only way to actually enjoy some of it is taking is as an individual source.

If you think it the way you are thinking it, Gozu, that is, that the movie's quality depends on how related it is to it's source material, then the movie, as I said, was awful.

I think he's just saying it as it is; if you want to see it just to see how they attempted to adapt the movie, then go see it, even though it doesn't sound fantastic. If you don't want to pay to see it because it doesn't really match up Dragonball, then don't see it.

I don't think anyone is trying to convince anyone to go see it.

I was never a big Dragonball fan, myself, so I don't think it'd be really worth my time to see it.
But thanks for telling us your thoughts, Cup o' Godot.

Ha, I'll show her then. :D

But she meant Bulma isn't a weapons master like she claims to be in the movie. >_>

And don't get me wrong, I'm not forcing people to go out and see it, just that it was a decent movie if considered an "alternate universe" Dragon Ball sorta thing. If you don't wanna go see it, then don't. If you want to see something so bad it's entertaining and don't mind spending the money, go for it.

It's a shitty movie even if it doesn't follow Dragonball.

It being shitty has nothing to do with them not adapting it well, it just makes it worse.

It captured the source material perfectly in that it was hilarious with highly quotable dialog and retarded looking fights.

I loved it and you should love it.

Especially Yamcha and his flying hummer.

Why the hell does everyone think I'm sarcastic? I GENUINELY LIKED THIS MOVIE.

In fact, I've seen it twice already. Would you like for me to scan the tickets?

Well I can't because I already lost one, but still I saw it twice.

Adaption or not, that acting was terrible and the story was cliche.

I think only 10-year olds would find this enjoyable just for the shiny fight scenes.

After watching it on my PC:

Me: "It was horrible. If it weren't for special effects, I wouldn't know what to say about it."
My little 10-years-old-minus-1-month brother: "It was AWESOME! It had some storyline mistakes, but it was AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!"

@Holly Hell:

I found that too.

Perplexing or stupid?

It's a shot of a bed with the covers pulled over someone sleeping in it's head. The random villager chick from the beginning of the movie goes up to it, and uncovers the person who is...PICCOLO. The look on Piccolo's face is hilarious.

Since the Piccolo in the movie should have been King Piccolo.

This thread made me rush out to see the movie. XD My younger sister and I went. The funniest part was when we first went into the actual theater, a dad and his two young kids (boy and girl) just sorta...stared at us. (Perspective: we're 17 and 18 year-old females.)

ANYWHO. I think I genually liked (not loved) the movie. Some parts made me cringe and I'm not sure I liked Bulma's character. Also, the "cheese" factor isn't played out as well in-film as it is in-manga/anime. It just...doesn't work. But, overall, it was cool. My sister's reaction to Kamehameha when they showed it the first time was priceless (in a good way; she was just really happy).

It was sorta weird sitting in the theater and watching a Dragon Ball movie, though...And I was SOOO excited to see a poster for L: Change the World as I walked out of the theater. SO GOING.

Is there really gonna be a sequel? I think I'm genuinely excited...yeah. Geniunely.

Now I want to see that extra after-credits scene.

And I hope they don't mess "Dragon Ball Z: Yet More Evolution".

That gave me an idea. The thread's name should be changed to
