Flitting rain

It was all quiet in the living room as Iris sat near the window of their apartment. Outside, the weather looked a bit gloomy and grey as the first drops of the winter rain started to come down. Iris took in a deep breath and can taste the rain on her lips.
"The rain...how long since that time ago..."
"That time ago...what do you mean, mommy?" Iris looked down at her three year old daughter, Amaya. Trucy was almost overjoyed when her adoptive mother gave birth and was almost a loving mother to her as much as she was a sister to her. Iris gave a wistful smile at her as Iris gently took Amaya in her arms.
"It just remind me of a memory long time ago." Amaya looked confused at her.
"Hmm?" Iris laughed as she sat back at the window. The rain continued to rain down unabated on the window pane.
"It's a story from when your mother was much younger then. A story that's happened just before you were born between your father and me."

A few years ago
Iris looked at the rain as she rubbed her tummy. Inside, she can feel their child wanting to come out soon. Looking at her watch, she looked at the falling rain as she waited for Feenie to come and pick her up. Although his licence had been reinstated, he didn't take the offer. Instead, he opted to work more closely with the Department of Justice having to implement his version of justice to the people. However, the road to implement this set of justice was almost marred with one set of problems with another. It took all of Feenie's energy and enthusiasm to get through the harsh times. Even with a possible family on the way, Feenie assured her that he'll get this done in order for their child to grow up in a better place than before.

As she waited there, musing of this issue, a shadow fell over her. Looking up, she saw that Feenie had shared his umbrella over her. She smiled as Phoenix smiled his usual grin back at her.
"Did you have to wait long?" Iris shook her head as both of them began to start walking.
"No, I only just finished looking up that book anyway."
"Ah I see." With that, they both walked in silence. Iris looked at Feenie's eyes and saw something that was troubling him. But that was put on hold as Iris felt as if someone had punch her in the stomach. Steadying herself, she heard call out her name before she hit the floor.

Phoenix felt Iris suddenly drag him down. Looking down, he saw her winded with pain.
"Iris, are you...?" He didn't get to finish that question as she collapsed onto the wet pavement. "IRIS. Hold on." With that, he carelessly discarded the umbrella. The rain was still falling around them as he got Iris on his back. With that, he began to dash through the rain. He didn't care if his suit was wet or the various sneezes he gave away. He was praying all the way that his precious load on his back would be okay and that he'll damn himself if something happened to the both of them. After running round to the point where he'd gotten lost twice and ended up in the wrong place, he managed to arrive at the hospital where the staff came into action. He looked at the double doors that seemed to taunt him every second all the way. Sitting down, he clasped his hands on his forehead. Seconds ticked by as he sat there unmoving.

A few days later
Iris looked at her daughter that was sleeping peacefully in her arms. She looked at her left and smiled as Phoenix snored gently with the hospital sheets almost a mess on top of him. If he hadn't risked his health and life for her, she wouldn't have had the greatest gift to give to him. She nearly fainted again when she heard Feenie was also taken into the hospital but was relieved when the doctor told her that he was admitted just because of the fever of his. She giggled at the memory when she was on trial for Mystic Misty's murder. It was the same thing as Feenie kept her hood as a protection to the cold he got from running across that burning bridge.

Iris felt her daughter waking up with the usual cries.
"Shh, little one. Your father is still sleeping. You wouldn't want him to wake up and be grumpy." With that, she opened her dress to let her feed. As she did so, Iris wondered what name to give their bundle of joy. It was too bad that Phoenix was asleep. She looked at the window and saw that the rain was still falling outside. With that, she got a flash of inspiration. Looking at her daughter, she mouthed the combinations.
"That's right. I think your dad will like that idea..."

Present
Amaya looked incredulously at Iris as she finished her story. "So what's Aaamaaayiaaaaa?" Iris looked at her before looking at the outside window.
"That's Amaya...so to remind ourselves how you were born." Amaya looked outside with the sparkle in her eyes. "And to us, you were the flitting rain we had to get through that night..."

Iris's japanese name is Amaye. The child's name is Amaya.

Amaya can be written as 晩 雨 which means night rain. She was born during the night rain hence the reason why I chose that name...:)

Most likely because she was imprisoned. If that didn't happen, in a real world she might have, but I don't think Capcom wanted to pair Phoenix up.

The fact that she doesn't appear in the game doesn't mean that she played no role on the sidelines during those seven years or that she had left his life all together. Phoenix really had no reason to introduce her to Apollo (and the game was mostly from his perspective) particularly when he often seemed to be trying to keep a certain distance between himself and Apollo (he certainly seems to volunteer very little information). I doubt very much that Iris abandoned him just like I doubt that Edgeworth, Maya, and Pearl would have left him to deal with this all alone. Phoenix spent a lot of time off screen in the game and, during that time, he could have seen his old friends. I suppose it's possible that Iris was in jail all that time, but considering Adrian's sentence, I'd find it a bit unlikely.

If Phoenix didn't lost his badge I think he would have been together with Iris after she was released.

At the detention center. Phoenix went to visit Iris again, with Maya and Pearl.
