Yes, it's a real last name. Faraday is probably reference to a Faraday cage, a device used to trap an electromagnetic field. The field then can be hacked to look up information. Government officials use them to look up information on criminals. This is a practice known as "van Eck
phreaking".
The cage was invented by a chemist named Michael Faraday.

Is Faraday actually a real name or is it made up like Phoenix, Klavier, Wocky or Gumshoe? Just curious.
Phoenix and Klavier are actually used names (rare for Klavier, but they ARE out there) - I could validate this via my google search results, but I don't think I need to. Just so we don't misunderstand the facts from fiction. :3

I can imagine her being called Ms. Faraday or Lady Faraday.
Just the name together Kay Faraday sounds awkward when saying it outloud.
It would sound a bit better if her name was Kate or Kaya (pronounced "Kay-ah") but then it would sound similar to Maya.
But as for the name Kay, it would probably look better if it was spelled as "Kaye"

The Faraday portion of it was explained nicely, but I feel I should add on that "Kay Faraday" is also kind of a Wocky-Kitaki eseque rhyme.
Speaking of which, I hope to god she's not another Maya clone. We had Young Ema and Trucy, the last thing we need is a third one.
And Kay is almost the word "Key"...not too hard to see the connection there.

The gizmo lets Edgeworth use his knowledge to reconstruct a crime scene even if it's been disturbed.
