Ahahahhahaha That adorable face would have to be Ema's ~internal flutter of emotion~ or something, because I know she'd put on a scowl face in front of the fop (then she could turn around and make that expression when she knew he wasn't looking XD). Super super cute ~ <3

HAHA YES. I wish I could have done that to Daryan by the end of turnabout 4-3. The further in I played, the more he agitated me with his cocky attitude and childish threats. Silly shark boy.

Pearl taking Franny's whip for a jump rope has to be one of the cutest things I think I've ever seen. No, scratch that, I lied. It's probably Mia happily snuggling Charley-plant. SO. so. cute. ~

I think it's so interesting to watch how your style is slowly evolving into a more 'traditional' human form, if you know what I mean? You started with these adorable 'blobs' as we lovingly coined them, then moved onto these large-headed character forms, and now you're trying out a full body type of style. =) But all of them are consistently eye catching and fun. ~ <3

Yeah, you're right. At this moment, I'm working on something that actually looks kind of realistic! :wellington-crazy:
Anyway, I made a lot of those blobs even before I was into PW.
Spoiler: lots of lame vector blobs
Image

I don't think I'll make new blob's, becourse they are just... boring blobs, they can't do anything.
That's why I moved over to the large-headed characters. Those things actually have arms and legs, so you can set them in all kinds of poses :maya:
It's true that I'm experimenting with a lot of styles lately, but I'll still make new large-headed character images if I have any new ideas.
They are fun and pretty easy to make, and I get a lot of positive comments on the outcomes.
My only problem at this point is that I'm kinda out of ideas for new drawings ^^

Well, I'll see how it will turn out :)

Hey guys,

As I said, I was working on a new Miego drawing.
I also said that I was kind of trying out new styles.
Well... I'm done making the Miego one, and I think it turned out REALLY good.
I'm really proud of myself, I didn't know I could make these more realistic looking drawings.
Sure, it isn't perfect yet (Diego's hands are really scary XD), but this is my first time trying these complex poses.

Spoiler: Miego

So anyway, comments are welcome, tips would be even better :phoenix:

Ahah! These are adorable, I got a good kick out of them. I like the 'Worms' type things at the beginning. The Butz Perfume thing gave me a good giggle. And I could just see Maya being a Burger Queen. Aha.

Now to your new picture. I really like how Mia looks in this picture, with her and Diego dancing. That looks like a complicated pose and you seem to have nailed it pretty well! Looks great!

However I think if you go into realism type work you'll need to do a fair bit of refining. For one, I think this would benefit from a little more care with the brush, though, to 'shape' the figures with a bit more- creases in clothing, and such- even if just a little bit more depth in shading, just to suggest these folds, maybe not extensively as it might ruin the soft style you have here. The style in itself would be improved if you smoothed the lines a fair bit, they tend to look a bit wavey and unfocused.

Also watch out for colour bleed, the hand which Diego is supporting Mia's back with has Mia's jacket colour leaking into it. Take care to brush around or use as many layers as you need for different areas of colour :)

When colouring the hair, try and stay within the guidelines you've given yourself, or make some more strands to work within. Excess colour outside of the outlines tends to look a bit sloppy, so try to avoid this if you're going for lined work. ^_^

Hands: try and imitate the poses with your own hands. Look at the thumbs and see how they join with the rest of the hand, how the hand shapes up. It has it's own 'muscle' (or 'meat' as I like to call it XD). Also, consider them in context with the scene you are trying to create- have Mia's right thumb wrap a little around Diego's arm, and the rest of her fingers pull in the other direction to try and wrap around the other end of his arm, to steady herself. ..If that makes sense. D:

And Mia's left thumb, have it resting on Diego's shoulder in full view while the rest of the hand slips behind his back. Try not to 'shrink' the thumb as well; I know the hand is 'disappearing' off the page behind Diego, but the thumb isn't, so maybe emphasise it a little more :garyuu:

The arms look a little like they're uneven, Mia and Diego's forearms seem to be smaller than the upper arms. Mia's isn't bad actually although something bugs me about the fabric around her elbow. I think it needs to be a bit more bulged here to show that there is a joint here, in the actual person as opposed to the fabric (fabric shouldn't have a joint that bends as perfectly as it does here).

Also the heads and faces kind of bug me; for one, the heads are a little too big, and tend to look a bit more chibi this way as opposed to realistic. I noticed that Diego's neck seems to be thinner than his head, which doesn't really work. Also, this doesn't look like Diego's face at all, so try and work his eyes into something that's more him. For example, the nose looks pretty 'token anime'ish, like almost triangular and sticky-outy, whereas you'll find it doesn't protrude so much in the GS art of him. Also, the stubble doesn't show up very well- ideally, this should show up just the way the hair does, beard is hair after all. It's just a thin stubble, but keep it with the same opacity as the head hair.

Sorry if this goes on, but I thought I might give you a good few pointers, and I need to improve my analytical skills! I hope this is of some help to you.
:)

Adding to what Jack said, I think you need to change your brush size and hardness. You're obviously usign a paint program better than paint cause you have a transparency, so you should be able to adjust the feather of the brush (How solid the edges are). In photoshop CS2, there's a pop down menu on the top right of the screen that controls the brush properties, and it's under hardness, or you can use the drop down menu at the top left for preset modes

Others may be able to help if you say what program you use :) Having definition is really important for realistic work, cause the eye works on details more. Keep at it though- it's great to see you give it a go ^^

Wow! Thanks for the amazing replys!
This is better than I could have hoped for, seriously :gant:

Jacks, that was the best advice I've ever had.
You mentioned both the drawing techniques and the proportions, which both need some work.

I think I'm going to start on improving my drawing techniques.
I'm going to comment some of your tips:

- The colour bleed
Yeah, you are right, the colours are going over each other.
This was becourse I was also trying out a new colouring technique, so I only used soft-edged brushes.
Anyway, I know where the problem lies, and I could easily correct it. This won't happen again ^^

- The hands
Yeah, I tried to imitate the poses with my own hand. However, this is my second time ever drawing hands (the first time being the diego a couple of posts ago).
I clearly need to practise those more. And that tip that I need to have the fingers warped around the arms is great, I'll make sure to try that out

- The arms
Kind of the same story as with the hands, I'm really not used to drawing more realistic. But I think that if I get the length of the arms right and I make the cloths look kind of realistic, that would make a major difference already.

- The heads and faces
You're right, they are too big, and I made the faces using typical chibi techniqes. I don't really know why I did that, I can make faces look quite realistic if I don't use those chibi techniques. So enough room for improvement here ^^
Oh, and about the beard, that's a great tip. I'll try to keep his beard at 100% opacity the next time ^^

These are all great tips and I'll make sure to use them, but for now I think I should start by picking the right brushes and handeling them well.

@ Arkillian, yeah, I'm using photoshop CS4 (and to be honest, I know quite a bit about the program). But I really, REALLY dont like making outlines with soft-edged brushes :redd: . But I'll try anyway, we'll see how it will turn out :)

Ehm, I think I alreay know what I'm going to do for now. There's one image that I like so much, it kind of inspired me to start making more realistic fanarts. That image is this one:

Spoiler:
Image

It's not only the pose and the pairing I like, but also the realism and (especially) the style of drawing. It would be my dream to make images as good as that one. As for what I'm going to do right now, I think I'm going to remake this dancing Miego image, while making it in the style in the image I just posted. And of course I'm going to use your tips ;)

Again thanks for the GREAT advice, you guys are the best!

Oh, and excuse me if I made any mistakes, my english isn't perfect yet :phoenix:

Oh- you were using a soft brush before :) I suggest using a harder brush- one that doesn't fade to the edges ^^

I think the brush that pic uses is a black hard brush which has either the opacity or the fill turned down- I think it's the fill. They do that to replicate a water colour look :) I don't know alot more than that though as I don't do my line arts digitally. I'm a traditional gal :D

A great book I learnt to draw from is This book. The art style is old school, but once you get over that issue, the tutorials in it are the BEST I've found for doing a realistic proportion. I learnt from this book as a kid. It was originally made in the 1960s though, so the faces are in a VERY classic style of art. Um- if you have stuff that particularly bugs you I might know options too :p

I take it your most comfortable practicing with a tablet? Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with traditional art scanned :) I do it. There's a trick to it, but it's not too hard to suss out :D Um... tiredness taking over so I'll stop now.
If you want any advice, do ask :) I have no issues helping out ^^ I just don't like spending time giving advice and people not using it >.>

Oh that piece is fantabulous-ness to the MAX! I hope to see more of your new style!

Also, how hard is it to draw on a tablet? I mean... You're not looking directly at your art... But the screen. I'm not confident of my skills yet to cash out on one, so I gotta learn from some pros! :gymshoe:

Thanks for the compliment, I'm really glad you like it ^^

As for the tablet, most people really need to get used to the feeling of not looking directly to what you are drawing. It's true that this takes some practise, but it's really worth it if you ask me. Drawing with a tablet has a lot of advantages when compared to drawing on paper. First of all, everything you draw is easy erasable. Second, the tablet is pressure-sensitive. This results in really nice lines. It also can save you a LOT of time if you want to colour your scanned lineart. If you want to colour it with your mouse, you would constantly be switching brushes becourse you need big brushes and small brushes. With the tablet, you don't have to switch brushes that much as the size of your brush depends on how much pressure you give. It's a little hard to explain, but it works really well.
As for me, I love my tablet. I can make things with it that I can't make when I'm drawing on paper.
And my tablet (a Wacom Bamboo One) costed only 50 euros, which isn't a lot of money if you ask me.

Hmm... Yeah, it takes me at least an hour to color in ONE character...

I've heard there are tablet PCs.. But that's overdoing it. Cash wise.

So, if I see one on sale, I'll be sure to buy it... As long as it's A4 sized. :hotti:

Hmm... Yeah, it takes me at least an hour to color in ONE character...

I've heard there are tablet PCs.. But that's overdoing it. Cash wise.

So, if I see one on sale, I'll be sure to buy it... As long as it's A4 sized. :hotti:

Oh, you want an A4 sized tablet? Let me tell you, those are expencive... really expencive.

Good luck ^^

And I've finished remaking my Miego one!
I've redone the hands and faces, but the main difference is the technique I used to make the lines.
So, tell me what you guys think ^^

Spoiler: Miego 2

It's great! But I think it's a bit out of shape. The consistancy between the head and the body are a bit off. They're just too big. Also Diego's right hand is like, too long. Maybe start out with using wire-frames (As I call it) as the very back layer, and then draw on a newer layer? It's the way it's done on paper of course... But keep up the good work!

Ah- tablets. Gotta have a good tablet, otherwise it's a nightmare. I picked up tablets fast cause I was use to pencils already. IT was mostly an issue with the fact that there was no friction under my pen. THAT took me a year to get use to. I've been drawing since I was a little kid with pencils, and paper. It's so bizzarre to go to no friction after so long. The friction in the pencil has a certain level of... security to it for me ^^;

I suppose it's easier to step into tablets if you're not use to pencils :) I know a lot of artists nowdays that don't use pencils at all when they do art. It's so foreign to me XD Lol. I'm so old school ^^
