So, I was basically just wondering if anyone else here knew about this.

Wiki link for info.

Hetalia is a webcomic and webcast anime that satirizes and makes light of many different historical events by representing each country as a a stereotype-ridden human.

Basically: win in a box.

For anyone interested, this is the scanlation directory, and this is the LJ community where the scans are hosted. If anyone's thinking about reading it, start with the main story, reading it in order, then move to any extra story you want. :D

America WINS SO HARD. I don't know WHY I like him so much, but America just WINS.

I love Germany and Italy. LOL Italy is so cute XDD
Hmm... I can't find any character from South East Asia (I guess it's because the countries are not directly involved in WWII)
It's an interesting manga, I say. And cute artwork too.
OMG I can't stop looking at Chibitalia <33

Yes! A Hetalia thread! :gant-jazz:

The first time I've heard about Hetalia when all the secrets on FandomSecrets community started to pop up, causing a lot of wank and heated discussions in comments. I've simply got very curious... and now I'm heavily obsessed! You know, I usually don't like all that yaoi/shounen-ai moments, but in Hetalia I can tolerate them because they are hillarious.

The character are all loveable, but my favourite one is Russia (how surprising!) XD. He's such an adorable psycho! :edgy:

The only difference I can see is that the allegory is more with the countries themselves than the figures of the time. Each country is personified and fits some stereotype about the country in general, but you also learn something from the story as well. At least the manga has footnotes to explain historical events and significance. I hope they bring this over here because it's kind of daunting reading it all online.

In sub or the original dub. The new one they did is fail.

AHAHA Canada. Poor thing. But he's just so huggable.

@Gerk: Honestly, the yaoi-overtones freaked me out a little bit at first, but that's just 'cause I had to get over the idea that they were COUNTRIES. XP But, yeah. I just think the overtones are more for fun.

I've really been liking Prussia lately, too. He's just too funny.

XDDDDD Oh noez.

And yes it's true. I started laughing when I saw the similarities =w=;;;

Does anyone know if they've subbed all the episodes and put them out? Because I've gotten up to episode fourteen and I can't seem to find fifteen.

ohmahgawd I just heard about this show a week ago or so and it's amazing~
I'm fine with yaoi stuff as long as it's played for laughs, so I have to admit that it makes sitting in history class much more amusing. In fact, before we knew what this show was, my friends and I named ourselves after countries during a study session to act out important scenes (for memorization purposes and lulz) and I was England... When I saw the first episode and heard his voice, I kind of... jumped up and started shouting "OMG IT'S NORIAKI SUGIYAMAAAAAAAA~" and proceeded to have a heart attack *does not have insane obsession with his voice* ...
... and then my friend lists off the voice actors and who they play in other shows. Ulquiorra = Italy ftw

The anime is still being aired. It's a webcast. There are only fourteen episodes out so far, out of 26. And then we get the second season. ^_^

Actually, episode 15 involves a teensy-weensy bit of the Cleaning Out The Storage strip. And it's in Engrish. (The audio for ep.15 was put on NicoNicoDouga, which is the only reason I know this.) Episodes are released raw on Mondays (usually) and subbed by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Inorite it's so awesome that Daisuke Namikawa can change his voice like that O_o lol I also went "AHHH NORIAKI SUGIYAMAAA!!!" when I first heard England. Personally, my favorite is China because he's like, 4000 years old. And he says "aru" at the end of his sentences.

Honestly, how could you NOT go crazy about Sugiyama being England? I mean, it just works. XD

Did you guys see the picture of the Nordic Countires Himaruya posted on his blog?

Spoiler: Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland

And if you go to his blog, you can see that some of his most recent entries involve period/traditional outifts for different countries. America's a cowboy. <33333 What's even more adorable is that they're portrayed as being younger teens/preteens (because of Kids Day in Japan, I believe).

This may sound strange, but I think Hetalia has fostered some sense of patriotism in me (misplaced or not, I don't know). Like, I really like America as portrayed in the series, as much of a goof as he may be. Is that the same for you?

To be honest, I feel the same way. For the past couple years, I've been annoyed at being American so when I go to foreign countries, I say I'm from Mexico (though only my other relatives live there :P). In fact, when I started watching Hetalia, I pointed at America and said, "HEY YOU. I DON'T LIKE YOU, KAY?" ....don't ask my why I talk to my laptop. As I read and watched more, I just fell in love with America's constant "IMMA HERO" chant and now he's tied with Austria and England as my favorite character... but I love them all so much anyways.

The series has without a doubt make me love America with all of my heart. Mostly because of how young and stupid he is, but oh well: can't have everything. :'D Hetalia has the strange quality of making you go "GO [INSERT COUNTRY HERE]!" only to have you hide away in shame later, when they do something incredibly dumb.

Oh please do. And please find the Cleaning Out the Storage comic. There are very few serious pieces in the entire collection, and COTS is one of them. That, and the anime is the "dumbed-down" version of the strips in some cases, mostly because the strips are somewhat controversial in places.

And I agree with the "Go [insert Country here]!" observation. Very much. Especially because it can maybe make us go "Go [insert Axis Power here]!" without really thinking about it. XD
