They do the fanservice on purpose to mock the anime that are actually doing it for the fans.
And half of the time they put the developers head on it for laughs.
The suicide thing is a recurring joke and he doesn't even do it that often.

The "John Smith" thing amused me more than it should have, and it's probably because I love Kyon so much BUT ANYWAYS
Zetsubou Sensei honestly doesn't try to kill himself that often anymore O.o if I didn't know better (and I probably don't) I'd say he still has a will to live... or maybe, just maybe, has a bit more sanity than his students. It's also how I learn more about Japanese pop culture since most people believe I live under a rock :/

We've HAD this slow pacing for the full last season. It worked alright because you slowly found out what was happening. But now you know what has happened already so you expect something more.

Now downloading ALL TWELVE epis so I can catch up before 2010 (when 2nd season hits) and also am glad Funimation picked it up for release here in the States, but I'll be watching fansubs before then.
