If your only reasoning for him being dead is that he doesn't appear in GS4, then Pearl, Franziska, Gumshoe (flashback case doesn't count), Godot, and countless others must also be dead based on this reason. I find it easier to say that he didn't appear in AJ:AA because the writers felt that they didn't need him and then call it a day.

If Edgeworth (and any of the previously mentioned characters, for that matter) had been in AJ, they would've taken what's left of the spotlight off of Apollo. I mean, Phoenix already stole a good portion of it.
The writers wouldn't kill him off. They'd have to face the frothing female masses if they did.

i agree on the theory that many edgeworth isn't in AJ because it wouldn't fit. i do think that he had some influence in certain stuf in AJ. i tink he did help with the jurist system(he also thought the current law system wasn't good) and judging by the way klavier is in court i think edgeworth is his mentor. but since he studied in Germany it could also be franziska after she sees things like edgeworth does.
