OK, this is just a random idea I came up with in the Acro Fanclub thread.

If there was a book series of Ace Attorney, would you buy and read it? Would you want original cases, or just random stories about your favourite characters?

It would be awesome. :yogi:

Oh man, I would totally buy and read these. I'd want a mix of cases and random stories. I already read (and write) fanfiction, so it would be awesome to have some sort of books for them. :edgy:

Yes!!! I would buy it! :yogi: :yogi: :yogi: :yogi: :yogi:

Like crouton... I'd probably want both...

This is an awesome idea. I agree with crouton on a mix of original cases and just random stories.

Or maybe just random stories. My attention span is smaller than an amoeba when it comes to reading.

The books would be called "Ace Attourney: Behind the Witness Stand" and tell us the history of a lot of characters, and maybe show us what happened in those past cases (DL-6 and the like) in better detail.

That's not a bad idea! You spelled Attorney wrong... Sorry, I'm a spelling freak. but I want more of the cases that weren't explained as well other cases.

I would love pw in book form. And I would like to have original cases but even more stuff that happens between the cases. Like we actually get to be with Maya and Phoenix when they eat burgers and stuff like that. Be able to see/read more of that slice of life stuff.

This is an excellent idea, and combined with these two suggestions, the PW book series would be pretty awesome! I'd defintely buy it.

I would love it! Because I am a reading freak. My motto for a long time was, "Books are better company than people are.
Anyway, I would want a mix, because you can't have Ace Attorney without cases, but random stories would provide depth.

But that's what fanfic is... :eh?:

The only difference between a liscenced book series and fanfiction would be the degree to which you could consider it canon. But licensed novels (especially Capcom ones) don't have the best track record for maintaining canon and being well done. Unless Takumi himself were writing them you couldn't consider them totally canon anyway, and I don't think there's ever been a case of a game writer doing that... Not to mention if you've seen the sort of "extra" stuff that Takumi has come up with regarding his own characters, it gets a little weird...!

The best you could hope for is Capcom hiring a professional writer who is also a big fan, but even that doesn't guarantee quality (KiraKira Land is proof of that!). I don't think I could ever consider a tie-in novel canon, so as I see it might as well just read fanfic for free! :edgy:

Of course if a book did come out I would still read it >.>

Oh man oh man. I love that idea. I just think it would end up like those childrens books based off of movies which would really irk me. But if they can pull it off to be like that, it would be much better than the manga. In the PW anime thread, people were suggesting it to be very similar to this.

Then again, a good 98% of fanfics aren't written by professional writers. So your point is kinda lessened a bit. :yuusaku:

My only point was that a "canon" novel has just as much chance of being good/bad as a fanfiction has, so why pay for a tie in novel (which most fans wouldn't accept as 100% canon anyway) when you can enjoy fanfiction for free?

I want to know the stuff Takumi came up with. *Is curious*

Yeah, it couldn't just be lame pictures from the cases and tell us things we already know.

I agree. And if Takumi wrote an AA novel, I would definitely read it. But the thing is, he wouldn't. If you've seen other Capcom tie-in novels, they're usually outsourced to professional authors who are not involved in creating the games. That's what they did with the manga and the musical, so I don't think they'd do any differently with a book.

I should just get around to translating that one Takumi interview... It's the one where Takumi made up Pess, Edgeworth's dog. And the fact that Edgeworth listens to Korean Pop (just so that he could say he doesn't listen to classical), and may have a maid who followed him after he left the Karma household. There was some other weird stuff but I'll have to check it again to be sure...

I would read official AA/GS books, sure. After all, the game really is an interactive storybook afterall.

True--on Wikipedia it says PW is a 'visual novel.'

I dunno, PW novels doesn't really click, It's make much more sense as a manga. But if there ever were official stories, I'd read, but for now, stick to fanfics.

Because none of my teachers will take a few pieces of paper for a book.

Anyway, sure, PW can be funny, but in the manga version of it (the casebook one) it seemed like just a comedy, and the "cases" weren't very serious.

Wow, I think I would enjoy reading a translation of this interview. Sounds like the creator had these kinds of things in the back of his mind, or he just made them up off the top of his head.

A book, eh?
Well...Im not that bad reader but when I read something it's usually either manga or a thriller/detective story (Hercule Poirot, mostly)
So...I guess I would read a book, since it would have the Ace Attorney logo to thrill me up.
Yeah. i guess I would read it.

I'm thinking the later. If you watch the developer diary movies for GS4, Takumi was having trouble remembering how old Phoenix was, let alone details like the ones he brought up! Kind of explains why the timeline is so screwy also...

I've gotta agree with Croik on this one. Great as more canon AA stuff would be, I think the risk is way too high that it would just be a bit of a let-down compared to the games, especially as the games are so storylike and dialogue heavy in the first place. Unless the writers managed to completely capture the spirit of the games (which I think means I'd much prefer cases to random stuff), it would never feel fully like AA and it would just be a bit of a waste of time when there's so much good fanfiction around for free.

Besides, who needs canon when we have i-ma-gi-na-tion??? *sparkles*

I am also more inclined to agree with my own second statement, but especially so after hearing this tidbit from the GS4 diary movies. I wonder if that could be explained with it had been a while since the games had been developed for the GBA, and maybe he wasn't super involved with the port to DS (except for maybe case 1-5 since it was new)? This is all pure speculation on my part because I became a fan of the games after GS4 came out in America, so I don't know all the development history behind the games as other fans might.

I have to agree that just because it's written by a professional writer, that doesn't guarantee its quality. You might as well read fan fiction (Or you can write your own :D)

I can foresee all of the problems with people who consider it canon and people who don't consider it canon :/

I would probably read the books anyways, but I'm not sure if I would want them to be published...

I would love to read a Phoenix Wright book since my ds broke a book is probably all I can afford now :hobohodo: the only problem is that if it goes into background of certain people, it is offical and we can not pretend it was not true if we don't like it :larry:

a novel series would be more like it, maybe explaining cases from the game from the witness and the defendant's POV and add in a few OCs' (stands for original cases)
