It should be lay, not lied. Lie is to not tell the truth.
And...um...I believe that the conclusion could have been more conclusive, if you know what I meant. Phoenix said "I love you". Even with dating, that's not something you just casually say unless you mean it. Maya is right now, his brand-new girlfriend. If we could have some kind of confirmation that she reciprocates, I believe that would improve the story's structure.
