Hi everyone. :edgy:
Well, I'm not that good at drawing, but I would like to see what everyone thinks.
Constructive criticism is welcome ^^

Well, this is all I have so far:
Spoiler: Miles Edgeworth
Image

Sorry for the bad quality scan.

I had a lot of Phoenix Wright art but I lost them all >_<.

EDIT 9/14/2009: Here is some of my non-PW related arts :yogi:

Spoiler:
Image

Spoiler: Steamboat willie!<3
Image

Spoiler:
ImageImage I don't like Digimon, but I think that one is cute so I drew him :)

Spoiler: first attempt ><
Image

Yeah, that's my first attempt at realism. I completely failed at doing the hair, and I haven't finished drawing his hand yet, hehe. :yogi:

Spoiler: Sleepy Phoenix doodle
Image

I know I said I'd do some PW art so...
This was just a doodle that took me a few minutes to do. Its not meant to be taken seriously.
Surprisingly, this is the first time I've ever drawn Phoenix. Ever. o.o
And he never seemed like a morning person to me hehe.

Thanks everyone :).
It was hard to draw the right eye for me, haha.
I think my mom might have threw away the rest of my PW art.
But I promise, I'll draw more soon!

Looking good. Some crit thought since you've asked- Your lines look like you were thinking too much about making them perfect as you drew them. There's two options of fixing this so your lines are nice and smooth (or smoother)

1- Don't worry about accuracy- have where the line SHOULD go, and just make sure you get it close, and do the line at a reasonable speed, making your arcs from INSIDE of the curve (it's not a natural movement if you do it from the outside). Don't think about it though, cause as soon as you do, you stop and find it tought to start again. Just do it. You'll get better at this with practice.

2- Use French curves orbendable rulers. Those will give you perfect lines, but they will be... rigid. I like hand drawn ones usually cause they have character. If you want a clean look though, ALWAYS use a straight edge of some sorts. NO artist can draw a straight line of curve by hand.

Hope that helps :) Oh- and the image is big. It'd be nice if you could shrink it 50% (Hides alot of evils too doing that :will: )

But I don't think my parents will buy me any of that stuff since I'm only 13 and haven't taken an art class yet. :payne:
But yeah, I tend to worry about how the lines look in my pictures hehe. I'll try to improve! :edgy:

When I was your age, I thought that too. Cause of it I horded ALL the paper around me with a blank surface. My Mum years later was all 'Why didn't you just ask me for paper?

:nick-sweat:

Some drawing stuffs are expensive and not needed, and some are essential. Fancy rulers aren't essential, but if you want perfect lines and have X amount of money to spend on it, it's an option. Personally? The essential kit for art to me is a white pad of paper with a little bit of texture, a 2H pencil for sketching, somethign darker for finishing (OR an ink pen- I use to pencil render all my art to make up for lack of pens), a sharpener, a pen styled eraser (cause the block ones don't erase small areas), and spray sealant.

Learnt my lesson AGES back where I lost a WHOLE sketch book of art due to the pages rubbing. Hair spray is an alternative (make sure it sprays evenly and TRY to go for scentless). Even though you don't care now, your picture will slowly disappear into a gray nothing. So yeah... I remember my first can cost me a week's worth of pocket money ($20NZD- this was abotu 15 years ago. It was ALOT of money back then. I got minimum wage for doing housework ^^ ), but it lasted me AGES. Like.... 5 years. I still have all my art from when I was your age cause of it :)

Um... if it means anything, this is how I drew back when I was 12 or 13, so if it's any consolation, you have a truck load more of an idea of proportion than I did (I was copying pieces of art off books... the character is original though... not the dragon or armor... or Excalibur XD )- just keep passionate, and push yourself harder with every pic :D

Gah- art ramble... T.T I can't stop when I talk art >.>

Lol xD
My parents bought me a sketchbook and 2H, HB, and 2B pencils and I looove using them for shading :P. The pencils also came with a knead able eraser but one day when my mom's friend came over, her baby chewed on it. :igarashi: I've been asking my parents to take me to the store to buy more art supplies and they said they would but that was a month ago and they still haven't taken me.

So, hairspray makes your pictures last longer?
I'll have to try that :garyuu:.
Thanks! ^^

And, thank you R.M.

Yeah- hair spray stops the lead from smudging, but you can't draw over it again like proper sealant. If you're going to do alot of pencil art, I suggest for get a can :) I got a large can which is cheap but does the job :) You can get fancy UV protection ones but you don't need that. Another good thing about using sealant is that it doesn't smell. My old art STILL smells 15 years down the track XD It also got blotchy when it sprayed after a while, and stuffed up one of my chalk pastel pics :igarashi: If you use anything over HB though, you MUST use it though! I learnt the hard lesson T.T I learnt it with charcoal. I was so upset cause it destroyed the pic opposite it in the art book too.

Eating kneedable erasers... ew... I guess it felt nice on it's gums ^^; It wouldn't have digested well...

There's only one way of fixing that, and I tell you what, it requires alot of art, and alot of love for practicing it :nods:

Long pencil strokes for the hair is the key, and being more heavy handed in the darker areas rather than the whole thing. Gives the impression of light source :)

They look really nice, Edgeworth looks very good for a copy. I'd love to see some original PW pictures from you :) (unless they're the ones thatve been lost, if so, sorry for rubbing salt into a wound haha).

Yeah it looks like youve tried to go a bit too detailed with the hair(on the realistic drawing), try instead not to do each and every strand, but chunks.

Awesome you're 13? Haha, I just turned 14.
I'm sure with enough practice you can get the shading right. When I shade, I blend with a tissue.

I use blending stumps too (I assume this is what is meant by tissues?) They're handy also cause they cut down on the number of pencils you need to come up with great results :) I work in HB mostly now, and only use bolder pencils for accents. The blending stubs fill in the gaps where the pencils are just too rough to achieve. Like... the REALLY like tones? That's just rubbing what's on the stump down. Pencil art is messy as heck- just wash your hands alot and keep an eye on your tones, and use spray sealant on them after, or you'll lose the picture! That's the same with all traditional mediums, but powdery ones the most. Even with hair spray.

(Sorry- I shouldn't spam art crap here >.> I wasn't even asked XD )

Spoiler: Blending stumps look like this btw

Thanks! :P I turned 14 on September 15.
I like your drawings! Especially the one with Edgeworth with a beanie, that one is cute :redd:

I colored the whole skin lightly with a 2H pencil so then I colored the upper lip with a darker shade with my 2H..or HB I forgot, then blended. I didn't color the lower lip, instead I colored below and around it with a 2H and HB pencil to bring out the lip and the chin...Does that make sense? Haha. Its kinda hard to explain.

Unfortunately, I don't have blending stumps D:
I literally use tissues. They still make the picture look nice, but probably not as nice as blending stumps.
