In addition to this, perhaps it is not the instantly playable game, but when I finally appreciated it, I can openly say that this is the most detailed FF ever.

But I still just cannot connect any of the sequels to FFVII. They completely lack the charm that game had. It's like they took some fanboys and said "hey, make an VII game plz"
And the thing is, it'll never get a sequel that it really deserves, done in the same style as it originally was. It sucks ass.

Anyway, my favorite FF is Final Fantasy Tactics. I've played through it more than any other game I own. Delita is one of my favorite game characters of all time. The ending totally blew me away. It's probably my favorite game ever.
Unless you're only counting the numbered games, in which case, FFXII. I am a sucker for Ivalice.

I'll say what I will and say that it's not.
It might be your favorite FF, but I'll never accept that it should be considered excellent.
My personal favorite FF? FFIII or FFIV. It's a tie, mostly.
Favorite FF soundtrack? FFMQ ftw. Ryuji Sasai = Awesome.

I stay away from FFVII not only becasue did I think it's over-rated, but I also am scared of the fangirls and faboys.
If I see anymore FF7 fanart in Y! gallery or Deviant art, I will go crazy. That and KH have got to have the biggest fanbases.. ever. c_c;
My otaku friends made me watch AC and I didn't understand a blink of it, anyway. But I did kinda like Loz... ~.~
That aside? I thought 8 was most interesting to play so far. *nods*
I only played a little bit of 10. X would've been more tolerable... but I stopped since I got tired of Tidus's whiny ass. Auron was cool, though. >.>

FFVI is my favorite for many reasons, the gameplay is rather broken and each "enhanced port" makes the game easier not harder >.< ! However FFVI has the greatest villian of all time, Kefka, his lines are memorable, he actually accomplishes what he sets out to do, unlike most of the FF villian including the all mighty Sephiroth. All the main characters get alot of back story and character development which is really impressive (12 main playable characters and about 8 more support characters get alot of back story and development). I still perfer CT to FFVI but I play those games atleast 2-3 times a year.

I disagree, the characters in FFIX had quite a bit of personality, also the gameplay was alot of fun, and just because it had similar character names (Garland comes to mind) they are nothing like their original versions.

Scope, plot, and execution wise, most if not all of the FF's after 7 fail terribly, save perhaps 9 which was mediocre at best compared to FF4, 5, and 6.
But even then, FF is mediocre to begin with except perhaps in its heyday--when Square became to caught up in graphics and less on plot and gameplay, we ended up with FF8, FFX-2, and FFXII.
