Along with the new update, It seems when you type fade after you put in a background, The beackground dissappears to black. So instead of the background fading in, it fades out. Is there any way to fix this?

Cardiovore - it mentions breifly in changelog, also there is an example of all the various present states in "disable_profiles" in the beta10.93 game.

Basically, it's:
Code:
set _profiles_enabled false
set _evidence_enabled true

or

set _profiles_enabled true
set _evidence_enabled false

Put those before a sequence where you want to disable something. After the sequence is over, set the values to whatever you want the default state to be. If you want a game that has no profiles, you can simply "set _profiles_enabled false" at the start of the game and it will never be selectable. And then there is also "set _profiles_present false" which will not affect whether it can be selected or not, but will effect whether profiles can be presented. This way, players can still look over the profiles, but know not to try and present them to people.

SilentBobX: The bg fading bug should already be fixed. You may have to reupdate (delete the PyWright/.pwv file and it will repatch). If the engine still says 10.92 as the window title then it is not up to date.

Cool! Will be nice to play the completed version of this game.

Hey all, a momentous occasion. The website is live! (After 1.5 years, you'd think it would have been sooner... Especially considering I work in the webspace.)

Turns out I just don't like writing about my own work. It's the content, not technical issues that have been holding me back. But hold me back no longer.

Check out http://pywright.dawnsoft.org!

Ironically it is still pretty light on content. Sign up for the forums, let me know what you think about layout, etc, etc, etc. I can take criticism. I'm going to try to write blog posts occasionally, and keep everything up to date, but this forum is still going to be the main point of contact, at least for the time being.

Enjoy! Oh and if I missed your game on the WIP page, I'm sorry, there are enough games it is hard to keep track of them all. Just send me the name and the main link (via private message here, my email, or a message in the pywright forums), and I'll put it up. Eventually I will be adding more about the games, and the site is definitely missing some images. But I really needed to get it out.

You download "ports" short for "portraits" from "Download Games and Content" on the main menu. Phoenix is one of many on there :) One issue is that the apollo justice characters all use the japanese names rather than the american names, so you'll have to look at the sheets to see if its who you want. There is also the character list at [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_in_the_Ace_Attorney_series"]wikipedia[/url] to help. You'll also have to rename them with the nametag=apollo attribute when you use the char command.

Agreed. I replaced the "check" button in my game with the more realistic "examine" button, but that's all I can do. I'd really like to replace the default press and present buttons with the real ones.

I replaced the press & present buttons w/ the real ones. And the buttons w/ the Gk Buttons.
And the court record. And the checkmark. Turns out when you update. They get replaced w/ the old ones.

To reupdate: delete the .pwv file in the root directory and run the game again.

jaydrick: I'm sorry if this wasn't clear - The files outside of the "games" folder are owned by PyWright. Everything inside the games folder is owned by users. If you want to overwrite files, rather than putting the file in PyWright/art/general for instance, you would put your replacement in PyWright/games/mygame/art/general. This way, your game will use the custom stuff, other peoples games will use THEIR custom stuff, and new games will still conform to the standard.

Sorry for the confusion. I guess I need to put a big fat warning somewhere, or make the core artwork less accessible somehow, this is not the first time it has happened.

Random: I may still patch that in at some point, we'll see.

I currently have 2 sets of cross-examination left-and-right buttons; one with Phoenix's silhouette, one without.
I need the blank set for one trial, but the Phoenix set for another.
I was wondering if there was some code I could use to set the buttons, like with the "_bigbutton_img" code.

Don't use the editor, it's buggy.

Use Notepad or Notepad ++.

Cardiovore: There is no nice code like with _bigbutton_img, but I whipped up a hacky workaround. One option is to split the case into two - everything before the image swap is in the "first" case, everything afterward is in the "second.

Actually, due to save issues, the more broken up a case is, the better.

Anyway, there is a way to make it run the second case behind the players back so they think it's the same case. It will break saving though, since saves are per-case and with this method the second hidden case is not accessible (so cannot be loaded). I think there may even be a workaround for this, but it scares me :)

Here is the hack though: switching folders test

jaydrick: the editor is not very well supported. An editor.exe.log might help me at least know what is causing the crash, but I don't guarantee to fix it. The preferred method is to instead use notepad, or some other text editor to edit the scripts. Many people use notepad++. I have thoughts about making a better editor, but these thoughts will have to wait. I have a lot on my plate. Instead, I'm working on a translator for AAO games, so that the AAO editor can be used. But editing the code in text mode will always be the best way, because it gives you the most freedom.

While playtesting, each menu that I reach progressively darker until I can't see the options at all. How do I prevent this from happening? I just updated to 10.93 and it didn't do this before, if that helps.

I can't get the hidden statements to work. I have, as a statement in my testimony:

Code:
statement hidden test=revealstatement
witness
"Blahblahblah"

And in a press conversation:

Code:
setflag revealstatement

But the hidden statement is there from the start >_>

Thanks for the darker and darker menu option report. It has to do with the new fading system. Fix one thing...

Random: does the test case beta10.93/crossexam_simple work as it should?

I think you may have to set the flag to false before the cross examination (at least that's what I do in that test case).

Code:
"simple hidden"
set show false
cross test
statement hidden test=show
"this was hidden"
statement shown
"this isnt hidden"
endcross

cross_restart

label press shown
set show 1
resume

label press hidden
"you pressed the hidden statement"

Before the cross, I have the line "set show false". I consider this a bug though if this is required. Maybe it is something else, can I see a more complete cross exam code? (PM if it is too revealing)

Ah, now I changed it to a variable rather than a flag and set it to false beforehand and it hides the statement, but when you go backwards from the statement after where it moves to you can see the hidden statement and it won't let you go back any further from it. I can't test this fully in the test game, but when I reveal the statement it won't let me go backwards from it.

I used the code in exactly the same way, so it'll probably be a problem with Pywright itself, rather than something I did wrong.

Yep, I altered my test a bit and was able to reproduce.

It wasn't that I thought you were doing something wrong, it just helps to see where the problem is if there is code that shows it! But I found it now. Here is a patch: libengine.py. Replace core/libengine.py with that, and let me know if it fixes the problem. I'll include the fix with the next release if it does.

@Saluk: Oh, I didn't think you thought I'd done something wrong :P

Anyway, it works perfectly now. Thanks!

Another little problem: When there's a label in a press statement the resume command seems to jump back there instead of to the CE, but it can be worked around by jumping to the CE instead of resuming, of course, so it's not really a problem.

Urk, 10.93 was supposed to make cross examine foolproof, guess it will wait for 10.94!

Well, this is a press conversation in the trial:

Code:
label press stuff

...blahblah...

set _list_back_button false
list addtotestimony
li Add it
li It's not needed
showlist
label It's not needed
scrolldefense
"{enormal}{c099}(Well, more evidence against the{n}defendant isn't helping my case...)"
"{ehappy}I think I'll pass, thank you."
resume
label Add it
scrolldefense
"{enormal}{c099}(The more I have to work with the{n}better...)"
"{ehappy}Could the witness's last statement{n}be added to the testimony?"
judge
"Very well. Please add the statement{n}to your testimony, Detective."
witness
"{enormal}Right away, Pal."
set revealstatement true
resume

At the end of each option's conversation it loops back to the "Add it" or "It's not needed" label rather than resuming the CE.
