While I've never played the original game Soul Blazer (but I want to badly) I own the second game (Illusion's of Gaia) and emulated the third one (Terranigma) and I have to say this game series rocks. It's really hard to explain the games unless you've played them, they are really not sequels to each other like other games, but they have spiritual connections (Similar places in each of the games, past games mentioned in later games, etc.).

Anyone else play any of the games in this amazing trilogy for the SNES?

Nah, it's boring, short, and easy. Stick with Terranigma as it is fun and has a cool overworld for the first part of the game.

Well, Bass about summed it up for me. I never finished Terranigma, though. My file got deleted somewhere along the line and I never felt like starting it up again.
Hi! I've largely stepped back from C-R due to life stuff. Please contact one of the other staff members for help!

I still want to play Soul Blazer even if it is short and easy just to know where the series started.

Major props, Bass. I <3 this 'series'. Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma are incredibly great. I especially like Illusion of Gaia's storytelling- it's not amazing by any means, but I liked the scenes where you were trapped and had to wait for a while before something happened, so that you were feeling the same as the character (ie: jail scene, drifting scene).

Yeah, those sences are very unique in that just when your about to go insane something happens. The drifting sence is one of the best moments in gaming IMO.

Yeah, the drifting scene is so amazing from a story standpoint. Like Will, you truly feel trapped there, and as you said you feel as if you're going insane waiting for something to happen. And the part with the sharks... or the fishing part... it was just so great. Even better is the development of Will, Kara and their relationship.

Another great scene is the one right before this. You land on a golden, beautiful ship where you're praised as the king. You take a nap and find out that nothing is as it seems. Everybody is dead, reduced to their bones; the queen is mummified or something; the ship is a dull, dilapitated piece of junk.

Yeah, I also loved the whole Neil's parents and the truth about them, that was kind of a shock.

Soul Blazer was my favorite game for many years, actually I'm slowly replaying it at the moment, so I would actually recommend playing it as well. I liked all three quite a bit, as well as The Granstream Saga which has quite a few simularities. Though for some reason the towns would never "advance" for me, so I always missed out on that portion of Terranigma.

I'll not mirror zuddha's opinion and tell you you should play it, if only to see the improvements they've made over the years. SB is pretty ugly and easy, compared to the other two, but it's somewhat fun when you consider that the other games after this one were better made and with a team that had more experience.

I did not include the black sheep grandstream because
A-It was not for the SNES
B-It is not as well connect as the other three are
C-It was just not that fun to play

Soulblazer I managed to play and pass and it is a short and sweet game with odd little worlds. Illusion of Gaia had laughable dialog including characters talking about themselves in the third person. Never did play Terranigma, although I heard it ruled.
Play the text adventure where you control the action, like this user:
At any rate, this situation keeps getting weirder all the time. What will you do now?

Soul Blazer is pretty bad.
Illusion of Gaia is quite good.
Terranigma is very good.

I never did finish Terranigma. I remember getting stuck in the castle in Spain or something.
